In the show Criston straight up violated guest rights in front of everyone and no one batted an eye. In the books the killing of guests or family members are regarded by westerosi society as two of the worst crimes one can commit, but for some reason in the shows these scenes exist only for momentary shock.

Not just that, he punched the future king consort and son of the second most powerful and the most wealthy man in the realm. Plus even if Joffrey was not Laenor's lover, he was still his friend and a Knight. Joffrey was not some common born peasant either. Pure shock value nonsense cause game of thrones had a reputation of having shocking events happen at weddings. The difference is the red wedding was foreshadowed and set up well and also had repercussions afterwards. Same thing with the Purple wedding, it was the main plot of kingslanding for the rest of the season. Who killed the king and Tyrion's trial.

There's also the fact that tourney scenes are extremely pricy, and this show had already spent a crazy amount of money. @@InnerAtanih I dunno, I agree with half of those, and disagree with other ones. Pretty much everything to do with Viserys turning a blind eye to Rhaenyra and Alicents behaviors is fine with me. I like to see Viserys struggle between being a father/husband and being the King. It's perfectly within his character to try to resolve these issues and failing due to loving his family too much to take appropriate action. And it's not like there are no repurcussions whatsoever. His innability to keep the peace within his family leads to a civil war. The casting was also fine by me. I don't think any of the performances were bad. Rhaenyra's bastards obviously not being Velaryon is kind of the point. It shows just how willingly blind Viserys is and how it's taken advantage of by different parties around him for political gain. The Rhaenys scene at the correnation is kind of a mixed bag for me. I can understand why Rhaenys did what she did and why she changed her mind, given her previous conversation with Alicent. He joined an order that had a spiritual element to it, and he seemed all-in for that. But, when the girl he'd started to have romantic feelings for rejected him, he began a campaign of revenge that would grow and take on other players, shaping an entire family for years to come. The scorned lover trope is one of the oldest stories in human history, both in reality and in fiction, and it's incredibly petty. (6/14/2023)

There’s a theory I really like which explains Larys’s murder of Harwin and Lyonel. Essentially, Harwin breaks Larys’s foot, Lyonel covers up the event, and Alys Rivers teases Larys and Harwin about it. This gives a darker twist to the Clubfoot & Breakbones nicknames, and also tells us why Larys is very immobile whilst many with natural Clubfoots usually have a good level of mobility. The event ruins Larys’s life as he gets mocked and belittled growing up, and he can’t be a knight - for a second son he has little options and Harwin has destroyed most of them.
I imagine we could have a scene of Larys revealing this story himself in an imitation of Littlefinger telling Sansa the story of “The Mountain and the Hound”. It also furthers the themes surrounding the ambition of second sons, and how childhood trauma destroys and remakes people like Larys and Aemond.

True but it didn’t work here. A royal tourney is to big of an event to be completely made up by chroniclers plus having him commit an obvious murder at a wedding with no consequences produces continuity problems.
An example for smartly playing with the fact that the book accounts don’t have to be true is Lucerys‘ death. In the book I never questioned it being done on purpose but the series showed that it could have been different, in a way that doesn’t contradict the book accounts but played out in a way, the authors there didn’t consider

But there’s obviously things changed in HOTD that doesn’t actually line up with what happened in ASOIAF, like for example changing Alicent and Rhaenyra’s ages, and making them childhood friends(something that’s a big plot point in the show). Like that would just not have been possible in ASOIAF. So obviously what happens in HOTD isn’t actually always “the true story” like people like to claim.

*Joffrey inexplicably deduces that Cole is the princesses lover because he is “loOkiNG aT heR CunT StrUcK”. Like dude, he’s her body guard, of course he’s fucking looking at his ward.
*then decides to not only expose his relationship with laenor, but posit a deal to Cole…based on his assumption that he’s sleeping with her.
*cole then (for no reason) beats him to death in the middle of the princesses celebration and there are no consequences or hardly even any interactions from the people who should be dragging him over the coals for such a stunt. Joffrey wasn’t just a dude. He was the princes guard.
*but instead of being tackled and mauled by the guards, Cole apparently just walks out covered in blood and decides to chill in the garden and contemplate suicide. So no one stopped him on the way? He just waltzed out? Wtf
*then he gets recruited to the queen and has no insane stigma attached to his name for his actions. Everyone just acts like nothing happened and they never witnessed his brutal psychosis.

If it was apparent that Joffrey was significantly drunk by the time Criston attacks him and maybe if the fight was a bit closer I could believe that most people would accept that Criston as a Kingsguard was acting in self defence and that Joffrey had swung first and escalated the fight to where Criston had to kill him. With the way it is there’s just a little too much mental gymnastics you have to do to explain why Criston wasn’t at least accused of murder when at least a dozen people watched him overpower and beat a distinguished knight to death.

@@themoon3588 I believe it was due to him being rejected by Rhaenyra. Joffrey was Laenor's (Rhaenyra's husband) lover so there was some bad blood there.
It was also not uncommon for people to get injured or die in these tournaments so that's why he wasn't really punished

@@themoon3588 It's not clear, besides Joffrey died 6 days later (he was very injured), so maybe Criston didn't mean to actually kill him

@@themoon3588 that's unclear, but the tourney gives plausible deniability. The way the show is made he really should have been punished - or we deserved an explanation why he wasn't.

Why did Cristin not suffer consequences after killing the small council member? He blatantly acted beyond his responsibilities as a kings guard and committed a heinous crime.

Although the book way is better than show, show still make sense. Cole was hurt watching his love to be marry to Laenor when Joffrey started to poke him. The only part that didnt make sense is Cole not to be punished for his actions.

House Targaryen should have wiped out the entire Hightower line.

Yeah, they just did that to be dramatic and it was a bad choice in my personal opinion. I still love to show. But the was a bad choice with a lot of other options.

I was really upset we didnt get more romance story on Rae and Harwin, honestly I just don't like the hoise of the dragon as much, it feels more centered on politics instead of being centered on the people and politics being a side thing.

This scene made no sense at all in the show. This scene was when I just said to myself... this show sucks. Like I daren't even tell some of my friends that I'm gay now... why would someone in medieval times go up to a complete stranger and tell them without flinching. It's so stupid. Then how can you punch someone in the middle of a royal wedding for 5 minutes until they die without being stopped, and without facing any legal repercussions. Like... killing the childhood friend of the groom should be death penalty in this world... surely. This show is just gore porn mixed with actual porn. No substance.

Criston started fucking Alicent. Alicent's last child's father was in question. Luckily the child had the Targaryen features when he was born.

They made a lot of strange changes but it's still really good, like why do none of the interesting ways beesbury died and just accidentally kill him, Criston should have thrown him out that window

He should have been happy? You know that he didn’t wanna have sex in the first place right 🤔🤔
The Rape Victim Criston Still Rightfully Hates Rhaenyra Because Rhaenyra Wanted To Continue Using Him For Sex After Already Ruining The Thing He Put His Entire Self Worth Into.
She Wanted To Continue Their Affair Despite Knowing The Dangers A Kings Guard Could Face & It Made Criston Realize That She Never Loved Him & Was Just Using Him To Please Herself & Playing With His Life!!
Little girl? Sounds like the p*do r*pist daemon
      Talking about the show btw

  • @skintagathahotness8456

The show runners throwing out all in-show logic just show a gay man getting beaten to death on screen for no reason. And then they didn’t even bother how he straight up got away with murdering the king to be’s best friend? At their wedding with 100 witnesses??
    I hope someone got fired.

This was so stupid... He killed a man at the princess' wedding, punched the groom (also the future king consort) and no punishment !
