- Ser Criston Cole is one of the most important figures in the build up to the dance of the dragons and plays a huge role in the rise of King Aegon ii. From his relationship with Rhaenyra Targaryen and the bitterness it resulted in would hand the Greens of Alicent Hightower a powerful ally. A feared knight, one of the best fighters of his age becoming one of the youngest commanders of the Kingsguard. For good or ill Criston Cole, The Kingmaker will forever have is place in the history of westeros.
The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on Geroge R R Martins A Song Of Ice And Fire series. The information in this video comes from the books a world of ice and fire as well as fire and blood.

"The best and the worst. And a few who were a bit of both. Like Ser Criston Cole the Kingmaker." Jaime Lannister
Apparently, Jamie in the books had made a comment on Ser Criston;
"Ser Criston Cole, the best and the worst of the Kingsguard".
For better or worse, a Cole had never been granted such high honors, and he was very capable with a sword, defeating many of the famed knights of his time.
Not the best Hand, much like Jaehaerys had learned with his own Lord Commander Redwyne, who was a good Jouster but not an astute politician. Which is fine, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Had Aemond listened to Cole's warnings and strategy, mayhaps they may not have lost nearly as much as they did, and may or may not have survived the war as well.
That said, for better or worse, whether viewed by the Greens or the Blacks, I believe his loyalty to his faction was admirable. He never once thought to swap sides, and staunchly stood for Aegon's rights as his Monarch.
He was killed dishonorably however. Only more needless death in this devastating Westerosi Civil War
Be it all for good or ill, he shall forever be remembered as:
*Ser Criston Cole, the Kingmaker*
His "loyalty" to the greens was rooted in contempt for Rhaenyra cuz she refused his love pursuit. Dude was a love-scorned, traiterous, murderer and a terrible tactician.
“Treason…is only a word. When two princes fight for a chair where only one may sit, great lords and common men alike must choose. And when the battle’s done, the victors will be hailed as loyal men and true, whilst those who were defeated will be known forevermore as rebels and traitors. That was my fate.”
This channel is second to none when it comes to brief summaries of major key plots in ASOIAF lore. I'd recommend it to anyone who hasn't read the books/doesn't want to or even to someone like myself as a book reader who needs a quick refresher.
House cole never had anyone rise so higher for good and bad.
What good?
@@Jacaerys4life good was he was a great swordsman protect server his king & the princess.

True
The Ballad of Brave Ser Criston:
🎶Ser Criston bravely rode alone. To protect the king they would dethrone. The Rainbow banner flown on high, he showed the wisdom of the crone!
Treason! The coward's arrows flew and then struck home. Treachery! With his final act how bright he shone. Betrayal! How will these traitors ever atone?🎶
Gotta respect the rise. He made some poor decisions, but he is the Kingmaker to Aegon II the Golden.
One can only imagine the legend he would be had the greens won.
Aegon II the broken

Facts, Criston had potential, perhaps not as Hand
@@DM-Oz
That was Aegon III
@@thalmoragent9344Aegon lll was the dragonbane. Bran was the Broken. Or did they also call Aegon lll that?
Ser Criston Cole is a violent brute but is also capable of charming and devoted. A True Knight! Insulting a Knight's liege-lord is a bad idea.
"The worst …The worst were those who played the game of thrones." - Ser Barristan Selmy talking about the Kingsguard in A Dance with Dragons
I guess he means the Kingsguard shouldn't play politics, simply be guards of the Monarchy. But if the Monarchy has two claimants and have various arguments for either or... then what are they to do?
Mayhaps stay neutral and not chose either Monarch until the war is done? Guard the youngest royals, mayhaps? So they will be spared the brutal deaths that befell the various Targaryen children during the Dance.
Criston Cole is one of the better characters in the Dance of the Dragon conflict.
Mushroom gives everyone but Criston Cole a salacious story. I suppose he's never seen betrayed as punching down. Ser Criston Cole has not been accused of betraying his position and abusing power above those lower in society.
CRISTON COLE BAY BAY!!!
Rooks rest will be insane lol
Also Aemonds best friend
For my brothers who are always looking to be first to take the black to avoid the kings Justice or those looking to serve the nights watch out of honor and duty
I leave one of you to the first to take the black….
I didn’t even know he made an epic speech when he crowned Aegon The II, I just thought what he said on the show was all he said.
As I said on other video I look forward to seeing how they handle the beloved Butchers Ball…
Your contributions have been truly outstanding my lord, the length of the aegon iii video couldn’t have been easy to make.
Your videos make YT even better!!
For this my lord I send high praise!!!
Here here!!!
Yeah, Cole is very different from the books in the show
Can you please share where to find the map you use for your videos. The map is illustrated beautifully and I’d love to be able to take a look at the detail it. If you could pls share where to find and look at it, I’d really appreciate it🙏
I think he pretty cool tbh doesn’t even seem that bad
Best swordsman of his era clearly. At the end he challenged them to fight him four v one and they refused. Cole would of won.
But but cristen is an incel hehehehehe the kids
Maybe he no Ser Arthur Dayne the probability of someone getting a blow in to slow him down would be high.
Cole isn't a swordsman
He used a flail a weaponised farm tool
@@equusquaggaquagga536
He’s elite with a sword & A Morning star. He used a long sword.
Ser criston cole I salute you 🔥🛡️⚔️🏹🗡️
I'm not sure they casted Criston Cole in HotD well, but I am 100% convinced they casted Daemon well. Sir Criston is an interesting character, but one I prefer to put in the "love to hate" category. Whatever pushed him away from the Princess to the Green Queen, he went ruthless and caused so much damage. He deserved his death. I'll be interesting to see how HotD handles it.
This video was well done and fascinating. I had forgotten some details, so I was happy to be reminded of them.
I think the actor does well. It’s not his fault they don’t age him or give him silly scenes like the wedding killing.
@@kb4903 Fabien Frankel is good with what he gets to work with from writers. Appearance wise (coal black hair and green eyes from the lore) better fit would be actor like Rufus Sewell, though it may be too old for that part.
@@anarion211983 I think his appearance is fine. Olive skin fits with donnish/ donnish marshes outsider sort of way.
I think he will get better as the show goes on.
Last to take the gotdamn black !!!!

I just can't wait for The Butchers Ball.. Bye, Cole!!
If the show is 4 seasons you would think butchers ball would be at the beginning or middle of the last season... also daemon vs aemond wouldn't be long after that.
Can’t wait for rhaenyra to meet sunfyre
Bye Rhaenyra!!
I hope they show where Criston asked for 3v1 just to show how badass he was

Worst kingsguard and hand of all time
@jailow8310 if you like aegon or not. His king viserys named rhaenyra his heir. A kingsguard is supposed to see that through
I mean it is a pretty solid narrative. Though the show did muddy the waters with the king deathbed muttering. I don’t understand how anyone could argue the green’s side. For years the kind had the proper mental health and chance to change his successor, but never did. Seems a bit power grabby to me that they superseded that by saying he knowingly changed his mind minutes before his death with no official statement.
He's hardly the worst hand or kings guard.
@@brayden8193that was before he had a son. Laws of Westeros say it i the son who comes first.
@@brayden8193 “How can you still count yourself a knight, when you have forsaken every vow you ever swore?"
Jaime reached for the flagon to refill his cup. "So many vows...they make you swear and swear. Defend the king. Obey the king. Keep his secrets. Do his bidding. Your life for his. But obey your father. Love your sister. Protect the innocent. Defend the weak. Respect the gods. Obey the laws. It's too much. No matter what you do, you're forsaking one vow or the other.”
The kingmaker is kinda lame name tbh
