The new HiFi Rose RS520 combination streamer & integrated amplifier is one heck of a beautiful and great-sounding piece of audio gear. From the 12.6” wide display, to the solid aluminum chassis, to the best ESS DAC’s, to a new amplifier tech, the RS520 is incredibly innovative, easy to use, and produces a rich, warm sound. It’s not that often you find something that sounds so good is also stunning to use and look at as well.
After putting the RS520 through its paces, we think HiFi Rose priced it too low! It has the same DAC as their top of the line streamer only. It comes with a powerful amp that has a very warm sound. The rear connectors are first class. And to top things off you get that beautiful front panel interface with its super cool features and displays.
We see the RS520 being a great step up for someone who wants very high performance sound in what is a very attractive and small package. Or for that manner, anyone looking to move up into serious home audio. It can outdo many separate components that cost a lot more and take up very little shelf space. But to us, it would not matter how big it was or how it looked, the unit just sounds fantastic. The great display and form factor are just an added bonus.

That display is enormous! Can't wait to check this out and give it a listen.
It is pretty cool!
Nice I'll put on my wishlist . Thanks for another informative video
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Awesome video, guys!!
Thanks so much!
How does compare with the RS150b if using it as a DAC/streamer only (minus amp section)?
Hi there and thanks for the terrific review. One question I have relates to Internet Radio. I believe HiFi Rose limits the stations you can choose to their own curated collections. On my current system (the NAD M10 V2), I'm not limited and can pretty much choose anything from around the world. Do you know if the RS520 has these limitations? Thanks
Thank you. We do not think it has that limitation, the specs show access to 9900 stations. Rose does have a CZcams option where they have their curated videos, but you can also access any YT. Thanks for watching
Sir... does optical zoom in projectors ( wide angle lens) affect image quality when zoomed to its maximum for a big image...
It is more of a loss of light output as you zoom out. Image quality is affected by the lens though, as some cheaper lenses do not look as clean as you get to the edge of the screen, but that will show up no matter what your zoom setting is. Thanks for watching
Does the VU meter display work when using the analog input?
It should yes, thanks for watching
The unit ships with IR input socket, an IR cable with IR sensor and manual says to “place it in a place where remote control reception is well received. So am I correct that the remote is optionally BT or IR?
We thought it was just IR. The kit would allow you to hide the unit and have the IR pickup send the control signals.
Does Audio Advice has these in Stock yet? I heard they where not in the US yet to order? The last 250 I had was not ready for prime time, as the software had some major issues, so I had to send it back, sadly. Going to give them a second go at it with this piece.
Not yet, they are supposed to land in December. We would appreciate it if you purchased from us to support our channel and small business. You can pre-order here www.audioadvice.com/hifi-rose-rs520-all-in-one-hi-res-audio-network-streamer+color-Silver
Great screen name by the way!
@@AudioAdvice Reluctant to order, as I have done this before and sat waiting for months and product didn't show till 6 months later. Do you guys charge CC Card once it ships or before it does? Thanks!
@@CaptainJamesTKirk-en4kt We understand totally, we do charge when you place the order. It looks really solid for the end of December, and we should be getting a good supply at that point.
How would you compare the RS520 to the Cambridge Audio EVO150?
Both are nice units. Please reach out to our team at www.audio advice.com to go over which would be the best fit for your system. Thanks for watching
Is this recommended for driving Magnepan LRS or ,7 speakers?
It should do a good job with those Maggies. Thanks forw atching
What speakers did you use during your testing? Thanks
JBL 4367. Thanks for watching
Thanks
I am sold!
Glad you liked it!
No subwoofer out? Can you use the pre amp out?
You can yes, then use the internal crossover in the sub and set it to where your mains roll off.
@@AudioAdvice Ahh so this couldn’t high pass the main speakers, right… That’s so odd and a bummer that this unit wouldn’t have a sub out. Otherwise really loving it on paper and listened to the RS180 which was great. Hmm.. Appreciate your help
Improved Integrated Amp (class D) section?
It is a new type called class AD. We go over it in the video. Thanks for watching
screen looks really low refresh rate that will be problemas later on not sure if is worth it
That's a lot of tech for the money. A swiss army knife of digital audio.
Well said!
Please go with Scitech. Drop the hifi Rose name. That screen is awesome though & build quality looks great
Haha, we will tell them, thanks for watching
Best-Kept Secret on the market... CREDO AUDIO Speakers 🤫🤫
Does it have a subwoofer out?
Not a specific sub out, but it does have preamp outs you could use. Thanks for watching
Is the price too low (industry and seller point of view) or is it a great deal (buyer point of view)?
Both!
I believe it is £3,500..... it also has lip sync issues with video content, which the "reviewer" never mentioned......
Stay away from it, its just a glorified mobile phone...... with android 7.1 i think?
How Does it handle Vinyl?
There is no phono input on the RS520.
Hmm... repair roof using insurance money or buy two of these...
Buy a Bugatti
Haha, we suggest you do the roof so your stereo stays dry!
@@AudioAdvice Yeah, but I can always move the stereo to another room.
Disappointed that the manufacturer apparently published a misleading power output rating.
It’s pretty common these days.
@@AudioAdvice This is true. It is quite rare to see the RMS spec. used any more.
Other than NAD and a handful of others
Played the Stones track in flac 24-88, through the $120 Khadas Toneboard DAC, through the internal headphone amp of a 27 year old Kenwood KA2060R integrated amp...and the $350 Senheiser Momentum 2 headphones. Nothing expensive or fancy. Everything mentioned could be heard easily and with clarity...Yep, so much for needing a high end set up!
Yes, as we said it is easy to hear on a decent set of headphones which you have.
They missed the boat with no subwoofer pre out. Really nice looking unit, but the Cambridge Evo 150 has a subwoofer pre out and phono stage all at a lower price point.
Use the preamp out. What's the problem?
A sub out with a crossover for the mains would have been a nice addition. Thanks for watching
@@RFIDemocracy most pre outs don’t work that way. Even if it sends a full range signal to you sub, you use the sub internal crossover, but your mains are still getting a full signal, meaning you’re doubling the bass. IMO, at that price point, both a dedicated sub pre out and phono stage should be included, especially if you’re after that “all in one” market.
@@mikefranks2012 My main speakers extend to ~40hz, powered subs with ARC Genesis room correction crossed over at 30Hz. There is no doubling of bass, only some reinforcement in a frequency range which my speakers cannot reproduce. Many experts rec 80hz as a x-over point. Unnecessarily high, IMO.
@@RFIDemocracy ok, if you’re choking off your subs that low. So you’re using a sub for 25-30hz?? Lol. Otherwise you absolutely are doubling the bass. Typically you want to crossover between 60-100hz depending on how your room interacts with the bass. If you’ve ever looked at in room measurements of speakers, setting the crossovers accurately is far more complicated than going off speaker specs. Also, what if your speakers extend lower than 40hz?….
Why would you want to choke off the speakers that actually do a good job producing low frequencies? I can guarantee without even knowing your setup, that subs will produce better bass 20-160hz than your mains.
Without a dedicated crossover, any portion where the speakers overlap is doubling the bass. Even if it’s just a single octave, it’s not correct or accurate and not something I would accept in a product in this price point.
And this doesn’t even touch on the benefits of multi sub to handle all the bass to manage room modes. Adding additional bass from the mains is a recipe for terrible bass response.
no chromecast unfortunately
not yet, but the Rose app is great, plus Tidal and Qobuz work wonderfully well
Does it have Amazon music?
Does it have dancing girls?
Not at this time, but they did add Apple recently so they could in the future. Thanks for watching
No, but it has dancing meters! :)
@@AudioAdvice I think it does, not only thru dancing meters ;)
There is Rosetube support!
Amazon HD is an absolute must…integrated amps with streamer and dac that don’t have Amazon are of no interest to me. Why does a manufacturer choose some of the other small players but not include Amazon?
👍🏼
Thanks! Glad you like it
👍
@@AudioAdvice- You're welcome. Yup. I did.
It has no Bluetooth connection? Looks like out of date
It has BTA2DP. Thanks for watching
Just use my tablet lol
You can as well, it sounds fantastic
Naim Uniti Atom
That is another good choice.
We is better Naim or Rose?
Great if you can live with 40 watts per channel.

Thanks very much
This retails here in Germany for nearly 4000 Euros. Really? For that money you could get a fully compatible surround sound receiver with all the bells and whistles. WLAN, Bluetooth, all the streaming services etc. Ok, no screen but who needs to spend so much extra just to have a screen 🤔
Yes you can also buy a surround sound receiver in the US for less too. But the 520 is all about great two channel not surround sound.
@@AudioAdvice for replying. I know exactly what you mean, but my point is you could get a good receiver for half that price, connect your iPad over wireless or bluetooth and be able to control it all anyway. Just don't think having a dedicated screen is worth that extra cash.
ordered mine today, in stock, Norway. This is one sexy beast!
@@robertw.1499 There is a thing called "sound quality", that a lot of enthusiasts are willing to pay for; also, good luck finding a surround receiver capable of delivering this much power into 2 channels...
@@GeirGjerde Hi Geir, how is it going with your RS520? Do you like it?
This does not merge the RA180. That's an absurdity.
What do you mean?
@@AudioAdvice The RA180 has a different amplifier than the one in the RS520. There's a reason the RA180 has fewer features for nearly double the price.
This is aimed at "Audiophiles" people serious about music why not make the EQ 10 band at minimal...
The way the allow your to change the frequency and Q 5 should be enough for most situations but we agree. It’s just software and more would be nicer.
Audiophiles have historically eschewed EQ, the theory being that if one needs 10 bands of EQ, one has serious deficiency in one's system or acoustical environment. ie: The speakers are sub-standard or the system is installed in auditorium or another inappropriate space.
@Gord M So you saying there is no need for Dirac, Audyssey, Roon etc. Most audiophiles I know and ones on forums like to have EQ to tinker with. I listen to music mostly in two speaker Direct mode but sometimes I want to increase the bass or treble just because. To say ones system is deficient or lacking because they like to have EQ availble is strange kind of snobby.
No headphone input 🙄
True, there is no headphone jack
$3700 is not chump change.
Work more
No, it is not, but it is very good in this category, thanks for watching
@@AudioAdvice Thanks, which streamer would you recommend to match with this integrated?
@@cpa889900 it has a great streamer built in.
How can they even put an LCD on a product like this where they display is one of the main features. Its outdated before its launched. Should be OLED.
Why would that even matter, its just there to see what buttons to push and give you a small view of what is playing.
What's the point to read emails on this thing?
ha ha, we were not that excited when we first heard about it, but when we played with our first HiFi Rose, we totally got it, you have to experience it. Thanks for watching
Next cut....lol
Lol, thanks for watching!
How does it compair to the Hegel h190?
Sorry, we are not a Hegel dealer and have not heard or seen that unit. Thanks for watching
