- David Goggins is a retired United States Navy SEAL, ultramarathon runner, triathlete, public speaker and an author.
The ability to overcome challenges in life is one we will all need sooner or later. Make no mistake, discomfort is coming for you whether you're ready or not. Goggins happens to be one of the best individuals on earth at dealing with hard things and after 4 years without any podcast appearances, I met him in Vegas to find out what new insights he's uncovered.
Expect to learn what most people get wrong about motivation, Goggins' thoughts on claims that SEAL selection is too hard, what the most painful experience of his life was, the danger of success making you soft, why he ran the MOAB 240 twice with no knee cartilage, why he recorded a mixtape of insults from the internet, how to overcome laziness, what David's entire daily routine of discipline looks like and much more...

Your absolute savage! Well done with regards to all your hard work!
@23:40 I loved the sections on the one-second decision and @53:33 enabling discipline by having an organized mind and life. I think these go well together and speak to how he has managed to become the person he is.
Chris!! Your fucking awesome brother. Been following your show for some time and this is one of my absolute favorites. GOGGINS is someone many of us myself included should be striving to be.
Thanks Chris. Really like your podcast, the people you invite and the way you are helping us.

Great discussion. David is as real as it gets… and keeps raising the bar. Thank you Chris and David for taking the time to record this conversation.

Strong quote that one.
Under peaceful conditions, a warful man sets upon himself
So true. People talk about the world getting them down, but Goggins reminds me that it can never really get you down if you constantly are rebuilding yourself all around into a stronger you.
A stronger you is a stronger world 🌎
This guy isn’t balanced. In life you most of us draw from being within a group a marriage a family. His voice and intensity are not healthy for Corning relationships. He is studied and observed by certain men that think this is the epitome of manhood “stay hard”. Whiles I get it a lot of it I don’t! Switching off having a laugh chilling out coming home playing with your kids seeing your wife is what most balance humans are about. This man talks all of this but is selling a product hence the podcasts selling his new book. However he doesn’t have a chick or treat to call his own. No children no family no wife. I don’t consider this out purpose on this earth indeed don’t find it healthy at all!

*David Goggins is such a blessing to all. I obeyed his words and achieved success*
Williamson enlightened me on how the rich don’t teach how to attain success. They seek the ideas of financial consultants to help grow their finance and claim to attain success themselves.
To achieve success, a financial consultant is needed to achieve your goal. I engage in various investments through guidance from my financial consultant and have so far achieved great returns. (the amount is confidential).
To get more details about my consultant (Isabelle Chloe Scott), do internet research with her full name above, where you can get in touch and write her. Give her experience a try and achieve success.

When I first heard David's story on rogan it hit me hard. I got obsessed with running.. Never as far as him, but I had a 400 mile month once, and one 50 mile run and I'm very proud of that. Turns out running was my cure to anxiety, and was the catalyst that got me sober and now a very active father. There's a lot of hurt in the world, and there can be, nobility in choosing and accepting it.
Did you ever have trouble starting in the beginning? And if you did what got you through that?
@@nathanaelmorales760 yes! At first 1 mile was really tough, had to take several walking breaks.. But slowly built up a little more each time. Started running daily just like 30 minutes each time with walking breaks when I got winded. Then I had to deal with the little injuries of bad posture, technique, bad shoes, bad stretching.. That was about 6 months of hard lessons learned. It can be done, just like he says you just have to keep going
Bingo. Congrats on the success
@@nathanaelmorales760 yea you just do it, then you do it again, then when you don’t want to do it again, when you get to that decision point of should I do this or not do this, you again just do it. That’s how you do it

"Your purpose is you." I've never before put my hands on my knees, bent over, tearing up, so fast from one searingly honest comment like this. This interview is a gift. Thank you.

I don't understand how people get worked up over shit like that.
bruh
really?
"They are suffering because they are thinking where they could've been. I am exactly where I should've been".. Man, this hit me hard, deep in my soul. I have to get up, stop feeling sorry for myself, stop thinking about what I couldn't do in the past and just think about the future. What I can do now is what matters. Every second you're alive, you have a chance. Take it or leave it. But if you leave it, you'll have the same regret everyone has, what if....
yeh wow well conveyed!!!
Not all storms, come to disrupt our lives some come to clear a path..After-all If you give it, your all, you can’t fail as you 100% Tried but make sure you give your all that’s the toughness you can develop..
Even a stopped watch, is right twice a day
Amen!
Be so busy with the future, that you don’t have to time think about past regrets
Very very good.
I have listened to this episode 3x the last time taking notes. I’ve done hard things before but couldn’t understand why I can’t now. Now I know why. Now it makes sense. I did hard things out of trauma and now there is no trauma to drive/motivate. Now is time to dig deeper than I ever have before and drive myself out of pride for those accomplishments, have discipline eat motivation for breakfast, lunch, and mother-fucking dinner! I’m going to push myself for me and my goals and dreams. I will be “the master of my dreams.” Thank you for this episode
I love this - I'm feeling the same

Its great to see David Goggins back. I am lucky to have role models like Dr.Peterson, Jocko, David, Andrew Huberman & you Chris !!
I recommend adding Nassim Nicholas Taleb to the list as brutally honest philosopher and life changing thinker ... If you read his book "Antifragile" you will be able to get David Goggins at deeper levels!
Wow, we have the same role models
Agreed. Anyone else with similar role models care to add to the list?
For me, definitely have to add Alan Watts, Carl Sagan, Richard Feynman, Kurt Vonnegut, and maybe more.

What amazes me about Goggins is his humbleness. He could easily be more popular than he is right now. However, instead of seeking fame, he seeks personal growth every day. This is so inspirational.
" I meditate 2 hours every night so i organize the garage of my mind". This hit home for me hard. I feel there is so much potential in me but because it such a chaos in my mind my discipline is not consistent and low. I was figuring this out lately and now David just says it. That why his mind is so razor sharp. I want that as well and I need to get to work ffs.
Every word is truth. He just speaks facts and truth. It is so inspiring
David doesn't smile a lot. But there, in that moment where he asks Chris to keep talking about the comfort zone which he refuses to accept, you can literally see his eyes light up with joy. The man loves to be a different breed. Absolute legend.

Wow! That hit me like a lightning bolt. Immediately wrote it down. This man has so much truth in his words. Absolutely inspirational.
That statement hit me like a punch in the face. Beautiful
This one made me cry on the spot, i have so much resentment for myself for wasting 7 years of my life after i quit school because of how bad it was for me, only to end up doing nothing other than sitting in front of a pc and playing games and doing fuck all. Thankfully after 7 years i feel like i am finally going the right way(started therapy recently), the way i shouldve went many years ago but somehow couldnt because of many conscious and unconscious factors. David is a pure and an original being, his mentality is on a complete other level, i am very thankful to him for being the way he is because he already helped me a lot and will definitely continue to do so.
You got this! I know that right now it seems as if you have wasted so many years, but in a year or two years you’ll be so happy with the progress you’ve made. I wasted many years, but it’s been about 9 months of me fulfilling what I want to do and I’ve felt great. You got this

David Goggins is truly an inspiration to anyone who has ever wanted to push their limits. His incredible story and journey of self-improvement is one that we should all try to follow as closely as possible. His story is one that should motivate us all to never give up on our dreams and goals - no matter how hard they seem. Great stuff Chris!

I absolutely love this human being. No one has ever motivated me like him. He's just really, really, really friggin' real.
Just finished reading “Can’t Hurt Me”. Ain’t a human breathing as tough mentally and in most cases physically as this man 💪🏾🖤. It’s not just about “Stay Hard”, “They don’t know me son” etc. it’s about callousing your mind and asking that question that eludes people who doubt you and themselves…”What if”? You saved my life Goggins! Appreciate you man!

Knowing yalls pasts only makes me respect yall more. Im a car accident survivor, dad and brother died, trying to get out of the victim mindset. Seeing two people with struggles, overcome, is ❤️❤️❤️
I think about all the suffering that David Goggins went thru as a kid and then as an adult through his physical training. I know it was awful for him but he did an amazing thing. He gave all that suffering a purpose by opening himself up to the world and sharing the transformation he went through. To take such an awful thing and turn it into great purpose is tremendous and shows the true strength of character he has. Thank you David Goggins for not falling permanently into a victim mindset but instead modeling for all of us what it means to be a true warrior and a champion. Thank you!

I’m truly grateful you choose to over come your adversaries and set that grown work for others. Truly knowing yourself and overcoming those battles within yourself will give you peace. I can’t put into words how grateful I am for your work. Thank you 🙏🏽 ❤
I've stuttered my whole life, and I've been avoiding it for as long as I can remember. Recently, I just tried to face it. I used to avoid phone calls and shit. I just went for job interviews, and I even stuttered while being interviewed, but I don't care anymore 'cause I can't let it ruin my life any further. I started to take phone calls. Sometimes, I still stutter over my name and still manage to push through it. I started to do the work, like reading out loud every day. I'm not sure how long it's gonna take, but I'll keep going as one of the murakami's quotes: We can't sit and stare at our wounds forever. And this video really hit me.

Goggins has helped build my new mind. My medical situation gives me all the excuses I need to just sit in an ergonomic chair and just wait to be fixed by Health Care. I soon knew, no one was coming to save me. I would have to dig deep "embrace the suck" and just master my life. I am now working harder than I did when I once felt normal back when I was 19 years old. All of this is done in pain, with body limitations and other obstacles. Thank you for your inspiration.
Yep even if you have a justifiable 'reason' to give up doesn't mean you should 😊
David Goggins saved my life . I got tired of seeing evil everyday, bullies (grown adults). Im no punk , I’m respected but people test me everyday, ones who don’t know me and judge ,I’m currently in the military. Man I didnt think goggins could pull off another amazing podcast as he's said so much already. This is my favorite one as its straight up no chaser. No long back story needed anymore, just straight into overcoming the mind along with a great interviewer
David Goggins understands the power in the journey of life better than anyone I've ever come across. He's an incredible inspiration. Chris, you are one of the most thoughtful and present podcasters going around, and I'm pretty sure that David Goggins felt that too. Thank you, both.
Goggins mindset has completely changed my life. Thank you David and Chris for a great podcast.
I felt goosebumps pumping in my head as I was listening to David. I've wasted a lot of time looking for what I wanted, but David tells us what we all NEED to hear. It's amazing.
I wish I would have been able to follow David when I was in college. But you can't change the past and can only focus on learning from it. I'm grateful to him for offering his window into his own darkness and his leadership on overcoming it.
Just a note for people taking up running. It is easy to misconstrue David's messages to mean go out there and push yourself as hard as you can all the time. For running as a beginner this will most likely cause injury. He advocates training by heart rate (which is moderate/easy running) which is widely accepted as the best method (often known as maffetone training). The pushing yourself part is showing up and getting after it almost every day. This will make you a good runner. You have to (for most people) build a base of fitness and strength before doing the harder training.
Source: learned the hard way.
All the best!
This man's lessons changed my life at a time I'm was truly on the edge. Truelymlistening to David Goggins first book help my mind get soooo much in order.
His methods won't work for everyone but I pass it on. If your mind is telling you it's too hard, that's when you keep pushing, that's when you don't quit. Own your own mind and become a true savage.
Thank you so much, David, for what you've shared with the world.
I find Goggins very relatable. The experiences he has gone through are so similar to me, though it was a lesser degree that I went through it. The last 5 years has been me trying to fight for what I want for a change. I have failed at almost everything, BUT I am in a better place now than I was 5 years ago. Mentally, physically and emotionally. It is great to be able to look back at myself 5 years ago and smile at the progress that I have made. It does build a shit ton of confidence to know, that all these failures have built me to be stronger, and better at attempting for the win. I may have failed at most little things, but the bigger picture is, I'm winning.
I admire how vulnerable these guys are, digging deep to understand how they felt in the past, freely sharing their emotions, and realizing how and what they were feeling at a certain time, but they would never know nor have a conversation about it if it wasnt for self realization, self growth, and discipline. "there are more interesting conversations about life and how to live it the right way when two people can be in honest and vulnerable but accepting dialogue"
Great Interview!!! You are the first person to get David Goggins, to mention he has a child. Out of all the podcasts and Interviews he's never went into that, even in his his book he never went in about it. I've been trying to hear his insight on fatherhood, and more about that situation. @@abreakfromscrolling7312 Gave me chills...
For me this is one of the best podcasts episodes that is out there. Thank you for the time spent to share so many valuable experiences, thoughts and insights.
He taught me a few things in this interview. There’s a couple of phrases I’ll never forget. Thank you David
Anytime I see a David Goggins post, I roll my eyes because I know what he’s gonna say. Then I listen, and every single time I feel like I can run through brick walls 😅. A vicious cycle
Cant believe how amazing goggins is. So much wisdom here. "Don't let the dream become your master". Insanely wise
Every second david speaks life becomes more and more clear. Thank you sharing your strength with us.
What an exceptional human being Goggins is. How can you not be inspired by the man 👏🏼💪🏼💯
Making money is not the same as keeping it, there are a lot of things that aren't well taught in schools. The market crisis gave me my first millions, when people stayed away from hard times I made the most of it..many credits goes to Sir Zach Micah Demers
This is superb information, as a noob it gets quite difficult to handle all of this and staying informed is a major cause, how do you go about this? Do you trade on your own?
Thanks for this tip. I just Googled his name and his website came up right away. It looks interesting so far. I booked a call with him and he responded right away. He is a genius
Investors should be cautious about their selections and money management, especially during inflation. Attaining high yields in this recession is only possible under the supervision of a professional or trusted advisor like Mr Zach Micah Demers
The adviser I'm in touch with is ‘Zach Micah Demers', he works with Vorteil Inc and was interviewed on CNBC Television. His strategy works hence my result. he provides entry and exit point for the securities I focus on
I've come across a lot of recommendations but this one stands out. Zach Micah Demers’ resume is sophisticated, and shows he was active during the last bear market, I also emailed him. Thanks for the info!
3 minutes in and I'm in awe. Never knew anything about smoke jumpers and David doing this purely to help people is f***ing unbelievable.
My respect and awe of this guy is already at 10/10 and somehow he manages to keep improving...
a legend amongst men
Its so touching when Chris talked about bully and his message has a great impact on the world. Inspiring, Chris
Lupus, isolation, 10 hrs sedentary work. Walked the dog and bounced for 10 minutes
Every bit of me hurts. Will build up. God bless Goggins
Goggin's is dropping some serious knowledge as always, "mental toughness is a perishable skill." I'm thankful to be reminded of this. I've become too comfortable riding my previous accomplishments. Time to get back to work - Thank you for the amazing content!
First of all congratulations Chris! I can only imagine how you must feel right now being the only person besides Rogan (‘our Oprah‘) releasing an interview with Goggins. What a milestone.
Goggins’ take on not letting a bad father figure be a cop-out or justification for one's own failure was deep.
My favorite part though was your answer to your bully’s letter of remorse. Truly inspiring! Class act! 👏🏼
This man is pure inspiration. We don't care whether what he says is truth. This guy is type of teacher children need.
When times get rough I always go to my inner goggins to push me through.. he is incredible
On Peace: JBP once said “maybe being dissatisfied is what makes you feel satisfied.” That really stuck with me.
Goggins is legit a true master... just reading his material and studying his methods has substantially improved my quality of life in multiple areas... he's the real deal... truly inspirational...
David Goggins has helped me get through a half marathon in the past and I'll be leaning on his lessons/teachings for a full marathon next year. 🙏🏾
I love listening to this man talk. I’m gonna run 100 mile race because of him. I’m at 3 miles in 38 mins now but gonna get there. Going for a new personal best distance run tomorrow, I haven’t set a number I’m just gonna see how far I can go.
The grind
Who's gonna carry the boats and the logs?? Go get it Adam!
How far did you go Adam?
@@Eserr7856 8 miles is my best run yet, 5 miles in a hour is my best time for miles and my best 5k is 32 mins. Thank you for asking
@@adamabston2840Another 3 months later, how is the running going, Adam? Any new distance or time records?
David says “Nothing is permanent” There is something so raw and real in the knowledge and acceptance of that statement ❤️❤️
I thank God for giving us another Goggins podcast 🙏
Fr 😂
"The world is tough"... so very true!!!! Thank you David for NOT sugarcoating the truth!
Take away;
"... be your best Self when you're least motivated."
I've been watching Goggins compilations before coming here, with various quotes, including some from this conversation. It struck me that when I first heard him saying: "you have to go back to the mental lab", and not wallow in success, I received the message as though he were addressing me, the audience. But here, with context, I saw that he was talking to himself. And then it hit me: his self-conversation is the same as his outward message. When he talks about 'you', he addresses his audience and himself simultaneously and in equal measure. I think Goggins understands this, and it is what makes his message so powerful. It requires very little translation from one person's situation to another. You will always have to deal with you.
"Try something that sucks everyday"....those 5 words from DG can change your life in mysterious ways buddy!!
David Goggins is a legend he is helping humanity become there very best and lifting everyone to their highest heights. Thankyou Chris Williamson for bringing the world this podcast David Goggins is a great human doing great things. Love and Life to all
