- In an exclusive interview with TODAY’s Matt Lauer, actor Charlie Sheen says, “I’m here to admit that I am in fact HIV positive.” He says that reports that he has threatened the health of others “couldn’t be farther than the truth.” He says he first found out about his status “about four years ago” and initially thought he had a brain tumor. He says that he has paid people who threatened to reveal his HIV status, “They were deep in my inner circle,” he says, and adds, “we’re talking about shakedowns.” In terms of paying people now, he says, “I think I release myself from this prison today.” He admits that he has had unprotected sex since his diagnosis, but that the two people involved were forewarned, and that he has told all his sexual partners about his status.

The comments on this video are making me extremely upset. Can you imagine how hard as a well known actor it would be to admit you were HIV positive? That's why he's stuttering his words, you can clearly see he's uncomfortable. Also no matter how reckless and bizarre his lifestyle was HIV is never something anyone deserves

They set up a laboratory in Uganda so that they had ready use of gorillas and monkeys for their experiments in studying viruses. During that time, some of the local people in this group went a bit crazy and the men were dressing as women and became cannibalizes. Then the war broke out. This was around the time that the AIDS 😷 epidemic started. I truly believe after watching the documentary that they were using the local people to test vaccines and virus warfare. I actually think he was very honest in this interview. I am glad that he came out with his diagnosis; HIV is a disease and the stigma needs to dropped.
I am sticking with the stigma, because there is truth to it.
You seriously need to become more properly educated, then. This isn't the 80s, and people with HIV can live just as long as people without it. It has never deserved its stigma; There are several other conditions that effect your immune system. HIV shouldn't be seen as the "dirty" one. That's just offensive and untrue.
Never deserved its stigma? Even when it's almost always contracted sexually in the first world? It and all STDs should be stigmatized.
Th stigma should still go on, thanks to it, many ppl have not contracted the disease.

The courage and bravery it took to come forward and unveil about your deadly disease to the world needs to be applauded. No one would have ever done that, at least no major celebrity. Your "deadly disease" trope hasn't been true since antiretrovirals became easy to take in the late 1990's. What is deadly is people not getting tested, and a medical system that does not automatically provide treatment, regardless of someone's insurance, or financial status.

Very sad to hear. Charlie is one of them people that are so straight-forward and geniunely authentic that it's refreshing in contrast to the superficial temperamanet of Hollywood. It's upsetting to see such a great guy go through such a traumatic experience.
