- Continuing the exclusive interview with TODAY’s Matt Lauer in which he officially revealed his HIV-positive status, actor Charlie Sheen says of the possibility of a barrage of lawsuits from sexual partners, “I’m sure that’s next.” He confirms that he’s paid out upwards of $10 million to suppress stories of his HIV status and admits his financial condition is “not great,” but adds, “I’m a survivor.” He says that when he revealed his HIV status to daughter Cassandra Estevez, “it hit her hard,” but “she was a rock star about it,” and he confirmed that ex-wives Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller were told about his status right away.

The "high road"??? For 4 years he had sex with countless women without telling them he is HIV positive!! Bree Olsen lived with him for a year having sex with him nearly every day and he didn't tell her he was positive (lying about his symptoms & doctor visits) He even insisted on using lamb skin condoms that only protect from pregnancy not disease.
An unnamed prostitute has claimed he had sex with her and another woman then told her to "go get his aids medicine" then payed her to keep quite when she panicked. He's now been forced to admit his status coz the papers will tell everyone anyway - hardly the high Road

Feel bad for him. He didn't have to disclose all of his medical conditions but he chose to do so to be free. After watching the entire interview, I'm quite disappointed with Lauer. He interviewed Charlie with judgements and interrogated him for no reason. He could have taken another approach that is more sensitive and respectful to a person who is sick! Yes Charlie needs to own his decisions from the past and he is not a perfect man, but it felt wrong that Lauer spoke to him in a demeaning way. My two cents.

+allmyjm In this day in age Lauer has to ask the tough questions. If you don't, speculation occurs. You have to ask if he had unprotected sex with someone aftet he found out, you have to ask when the diagnosis occurred or people talk, tweets happen and rumors start. Which all leads to more lawsuits and having a harsher backlash then ever expected. Some questions no matter how you put them sound demeaning or disrespectful, but with how much misinformation gets circled around and when you do an interview to clear the air you have to except those questions and to answer them.
The only part charlie seemed to be bothered was when he was asked about his drinking in the previous video with his doctor.
Plus they kept saying they have been talking and setting this confession interview for a few days, so I'm sure Charlie was well aware of the questions he was going to be asked. Being they usually do a prep interview with these kind of live moments.
+allmyjm Lauer is a friend of Charlie, it is the reason Charlie wrote him the letter etc, they would have also before hand touched upon things to talk about and not.... he has to grill him for the seriousness of the illness... this wasn't an attack, just someone getting information about a serious illness from being stupid... I hope Charlie fights through this as he is a rockstar.. but he needs to take responsibilites for his actions and change his lifestyle....

Having met and worked with Charlie, i can honestly say he's one of the nicest people i've met. Everyone has their demons and he's no exception. It took alot of courage for him to do this, and i applaud him for it.

That is having balls! You can clearly see his nervousness and stress because he knows he is under the radar, but he goes through with it. I wish him the best and I hope he uses his celebrity status to educate people on HIV and to help lift off the stigma on this issue.
This was brave of him. I've always hoped the best for this man.
He was put under the microscope here by Lauer and stuttered his words a couple of times but I think he handled himself well and is remorseful about it all. I hope he pulls through this difficult chapter in his life and wish him the best, he's still a terrific actor and genuine guy! All the best Charlie, I will pray for you.
Actually hurts to see this. I know people will say when you live like he did what do you expect, hell I even said that after seeing the teaser headlines on TMZ but you forget behind the headlines is an actual person. No one would choose this and no one in their right mind would even wish this infliction upon even their worst enemy. My heart goes out to him and his family and I hope he can live the best he can even if for just the sake of his wee ones, no matter what they want and need their daddy in their lives.

i know this is old news but i watched for the first time. impressive. very well said and done. i cant imagine what it must have been like to have to live through four years of that mental torture. people wonder why he slipped for a little while there, guys a gladiator, that would have reduced most to mush. extortion and threats to everything that is you, waking up everyday terrified someones going to ruin your life. good work Mr. Sheen.

As someone who is pursuing the field of acting myself, not only am I extremely proud but also very nervous. Tabloids are terrible. Rumours persist for years. People always making up scathing and false things about you. It's a hard road.
This was one of the best interviews I have seen on the Today Show. (Just my opinion...and keep in mind I have not seen every interview).
Charlie clearly has wrestled with alcohol and drugs for many years (often a losing battle for him) and celebrity just amplified his demons but his saving grace now that he is out being HIV positive he probably really can do some good... Charlie Sheen like his Dad Martin Sheen... his real nature minus booze and drugs is a good nature and and generous nature so he can do good for others and will.

Regardless if this was to get himself back in the spotlight or night I've got compassion for Charlie. Mostly because I have a similar history minus the age and hiv but most don't realize the amount of pressure it places on someone when their life is blasted all over the media and i would've probably reacted the same way he has over the past few years. Cheers to him for coming out and he looks a lot healthier. Definitely would hangout with the guy if given the chance.

+Nick Bates Correct. AIDs is basically the end game of untreated HIV. Back in the 80s and 90s, if you got HIV, it meant you *would* get AIDs and die. It was a death sentence. Now however the triple cocktail medication treats it so well you can have a mostly normal full length life, although you really should try to live a healthy life if you want to avoid it turning to AIDs. Sadly most of the HIV patients in the world are too poor to get the triple cocktail, and that includes a hell of a lot of americans, sadly.
+Nick Bates HIV and AIDS are two different viruses, but HIV can transform into it. The drugs he is taking will stop the virus from becoming AIDS.

I'm sorry but this guy has had the best opportunities in life and he threw it all away, he was a favourite actor of mine in the late 80s along with Michael J Fox, in comparison with Fox I know where my empathy lies. He says in his interview that he will be active in using his influence and fame to help with HIV research and awareness so lets see what he does, I agree to do this interview took courage but sounds like it was 4 years to late and maybe only because he was going to be exposed that he decided to do it, whatever the reason his future actions will define how we remember him, I'm sorry but all this poor Charlie crap is so short sighted. Whatever the actual truth, the guy is a lost soul and a low-life, as are the immature gold-diggers who get involved with him - particularly knowing what kind of person he is. I suppose I give Denise Richards a pass in that area, though, as she left him once she realized what a lost cause he was...and she seems like a responsible and loving mother to their 2 girls.

Depression is real and by Charlie doing this, it inspired me deeply and made me realize everyone has their demons yet not everyone accepts them unlike Charlie. Wish you the best Charlie.

Meaning, u may have gotten your diagnosis 4-5 years ago, but may have been infected for up to 10 years before that. I have never met an HIV positive person who was diagnosed immediately after contracting the virus. It takes years to show symptoms. Why is no one addressing this issue?
