  • Today we are showing you how you can repair your worn steering wheel. Steering Wheel's are exposed to constant sunlight and heat causing them to break down over time. On top of sunlight and heat, we also introduce oils, lotions, and all sorts of other things from our hands to the steering wheel which can cause it to wear down over time. If your steering wheel is bad yet, you can normally clean it off and you will want to keep it protected. We recommend using:
    Chemical Guys Toal Interior: amzn.to/2mtz6Cw
    This product safely cleans and protects in one step. Here is an excerpt from the product description: (for dirtier interiors, we recommend a more aggressive cleaner.)
    Total Interior Cleaner & Protectant is unique because it cleans, protects, and disinfects virtually any surface. Clean seats, dashboards, carpets, fabrics, metal, clear plastic, navigation screens, glass, windshields, door panels, wood dashboard trim, and more with Total Interior Cleaner. Chemical Guys chemists blended Total Interior Cleaner with UV blockers and protectants to shield against harsh UV rays that cause interior materials to fade, discolor, and crack. Treat interiors with Total Interior Cleaner & Protectant regularly to keep car interiors fresh, clean, and looking and feel like new for years to come. Cars that are in good shape maintain their value and garner a higher resale price down the line.
    We Do not recommend using this on your windows and certain ingredients can negatively impact any tint that may be on the windows. We always recommend cleaning your windows with nothing more than water and a good microfiber towel like this one: amzn.to/2O3nKBo

    I'm in my room, it's night. The loud music started playing, i tried to reach for my mouse quick and i slapped the tall plastic drawer that fall onto the other bigger drawer that fell and knocked over my big bookcase with all the empty beer cans on top. it made so much noise that my dad woke up and came with his rifle, startled, he tripped and by mistake shot my neighbor in his good knee. On a brighter note, good video, thank you!

Because the reconditioned portion of the steering wheel is not all leather anymore. Will it work on the glue and spray portion of the steering wheel? Will differences in color begin after the cleaner's usage? Any other affects? Thanks

    Does seem like a good quick fix without having to reupholster the steering wheel.I am almost convinced to do it. Can you help ?
    Two things here 1. The area where you apply the super glue ..and then sand it down..will it look and feel the same as that which is not after the entire wheel is sprayed.
    2. The Vinyl Leather restorer spray ..how many coats to apply, how durable is it ? does it fade peel off or crack over use of the steering

    • @imjoshv
      @imjoshv  Před 4 lety

      1. You want to make sure not to apply too much. Once you spray over it, it will all feel the same
      2. Light light coats. If you use too much it can be too thick and can peel. Keep the coats light and only do 1 or 2 coats until our covers the area

    • @imjoshv
      @imjoshv  Před 5 lety

      If its all surface and not any structural damage, you can just clean the area well and shoot it. It will help smooth it out and prep the surface for the best adhesion of the paint so that the repair lasts! BUT, sometimes just the oils from your hands can cause discoloration and build up. Take a microfiber towel and some water and scrub the area. This might remove the build up and that might be all you need to do! Good Luck

    I have a 2008 Ford F-150 fx4.... I think the wheel is vinyl, What are the different processes needed to repair my wheel. It’s rubbing off and is very annoying

    • @imjoshv
      @imjoshv  Před 5 lety +1

      It should be a similar process. A lot of Ford wheels have a rubber feel to them and when they wear down you see little air holes from the base material of the wheel. If it doesnt look like that then its probably vinyl instead of leather and the process will be the same. The most important this is to Sand it down using 600grit sand paper to remove all the flakey stuff. Then youll have a good base to start on. And remember, cleaning is very important throughout the process to ensure a long lasting repair. Another option would be to re-cover the wheel. you can get really nice wraps that are specifically made for your wheel. The only issue is they are on aliexpress.com which means they come from overseas so you have to wait a while to get it. I have used them in the past for some clients when the wheel was beyond repair and these covers are awesome.
      Heres a link to one company that has them. You can write them directly to confirm the right one for your wheel and even change colors! Ive used the leather and the perforated leather ones.

    • @imjoshv
      @imjoshv  Před 5 lety

      Hello, It sounds like you may have use a more aggressive sand paper. You should not be able to see that sanding marks. Make sure you are shaking the paint can enough to mix it up and break the paint loose inside. Sometimes it might look like its spraying but its really just propellant and the paint isnt giving enough coverage. Alsop make sure to keep the can upright for the same reasons. If the sanding marks still show through you can use this to fill them in: amzn.to/2Lr44cG Just make sure you clean the area really well, the test the spray pattern of the texture coat and spray from a distance(the further away the better for coverage). Let is dry and the re paint. VERY IMPORTANT... Do very very light coats of the texture. If you spray it on too thick it will be gummy and come right off

      In many cases you are right. It all depends on the proper prep and most times at dealerships the guys will skip that step to save time. If it’s not prepped correctly it will come off. We also use an additive called cross link that allows the product to hold much longer. Our repairs last as long as the original material did

      And I’m very sorry that happened with your car. That’s terrible and whoever you bought the car through should warranty that

      @@imjoshv I’ve been looking for a solution and this seems the best yet and understand you’ve adapted it for DIY purposes. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing (I’m in Australia so couldn’t book your services anyway) and the way you have bothered to follow up on these questions and even empathise with someone who’s had a bad experience out of it, is great of you. I’m selling, but will make sure I do a decent job. P.s. Yes, wear a mask please. The World needs more people like you, not less :-)
