Chris Stapleton should not be put in any genre. His voice cuts out of any box.
He has always had that Soulful Bluesy Tone. Singing Traditional Country at songwriter conferences, Progressive Bluegrass with Steeldrivers, Southern Rock with Jompson Brothers or his now trademark style of Outlaw Country. I'm just glad I discovered him back in 2009 when he was with the Steeldrivers. I could easily have went another 6 years to the 2015 CMAs without hearing him if I hadn't decided to attend that Bluegrass Festival.
The same as Elvis. He also covered almoust every genre

I generally don't care for country music, but I love Chris Stapleton. He's for sure got country in his stuff, but so, so much more, too. He's almost in a genre by himself.

He was also in a bluegrass group called The Steeldrivers and they have a live version of their song called "Blue Side of the Mountain" that is pure fire. The video is titled Steeldrivers w/Chris Stapleton Blue Side of the Mountain. You won't regret watching it.
This song just seems to define heartbreak. As I commented on another persons reaction, this song makes me feel actual pain for Chris and what that woman did to him. Lol.

Love to listen to Chris & Morgane Stapleton sing both have beautiful vocals.
