  • Welcome one and all to another enlightening episode of The Empowering Neurologist. Joining us is Dr. Ray Dorsey, Professor of Neurology at the University of Rochester, a stalwart advocate for Parkinson's disease, and a renowned researcher in the field. With a profound belief in the power of awareness and knowledge, Dr. Dorsey dedicates his life to a cause that is impacting millions globally. He stands at the forefront of the fight against Parkinson's disease, a fight that is becoming increasingly critical as we see a staggering rise in the incidence of this condition.
Dr. Dorsey is not just an accomplished physician but also an engaging author. His groundbreaking book, Ending Parkinson’s Disease, is a critical exploration that sheds light on this global health crisis. It offers an enlightening perspective on Parkinson's disease and, so importantly as we discuss in this episode, its modifiable risk factors, raising consciousness and hope about this life-altering condition.
His book is an earnest appeal to policymakers, researchers, physicians, and the general public to recognize the escalating crisis and join the battle to end Parkinson's. It also serves as a testament to his belief in our collective ability to mitigate this crisis, beginning with understanding the risk factors that we can change.
We delve into the comprehensive world of Ending Parkinson’s Disease, discuss the modifiable risk factors, and explore ways to curb the skyrocketing incidences of Parkinson's. It is our shared responsibility, and understanding is the first step.
So, please enjoy this fascinating interview.

I've had to move four times to get away from toxic chemicals being sprayed in our environment - once from rural Georgia (nearby crops included peanuts, cotton and soy - sprayed year round), twice in Florida (roadside weed control one place, orange orchards the other) - moved overseas to escape and had to leave England after rape crops and wheat were sprayed with something that caused me to have hand tremors and the inability to lift my legs into bed without using my hands. I now live in the very rural mountains of northern Portugal where I grow my food organically and appreciate a countryside still filled with bees. This continued spraying of our planet is beyond dangerous. I've done a ton of research on it and seldom get off my soapbox about it now. Scary stuff being sprayed on crops, golf courses and even school yards.

Years ago my granduncle told the Azomite corporation on why not use the same azomite minerals to be crushed into sand and used as part of an azomite sand bath for the American troops exposed to Iraqi chemical-biological-radiological weapons which the Pentagon has ignored in order to avoid paying compensation to those hundreds of thousands of troops who are now having children birth defects in the 1990s and 2000s! But the Azomite corporation DID NOT REPLY TO MY UNCLE! I am sure that the Pentagon intercepted his e-mail, many years ago, and told the Azomite corporation not to comply. Because if they comply and start building azomite sand baths for hundreds of thousands of Iraqi veterans to cure them, then people will be ASKING QUESTIONS, and when they start receiving the TRUE ANSWERS, then the Pentagon will be in HOT WATER OF WAVES PROTESTS AFTER WAVES OF PROTESTS from the families of American troop veterans of the Iraqi wars.
To demonstrate to effectiveness of the microwaves radiated by trace elements, Dr. Hansen took a bag of Azomite and spread it on the ground around an orange tree with mature fruit ready to be plucked. “The tree”, he explained, “was full of heavy metals: zinc, lead, mercury, and insecticides. Within four minutes after the Azomite was spread, there was not an orange or leaf on that tree that wasn’t free of the harmful effects of the heavy metals, DDT, and other chemicals”. So amazed was he by these results he repeated the experiment several times. His explanation is as simple as it is amazing: “Microwaves from the trace elements in the Azomite catalyze the heavy metals into harmless compounds, which the plant or tree can then use or automatically return to the soil”.
One of the keenest supporters of Rollin’s Azomite is a Veterinary Doctor, C.S. Hansen, who attributes the extraordinary powers of trace elements to the microwaves they radiate. He maintains that insects have an innate intelligence that respects a vigorous growing plant, capable of producing seed for reproduction, and will somehow have the sense to avoid it. He said that when the natural trace-element material, such as Azomite, with the proper microwaves present, is supplied to a growing plant he has failed to find any insects present. Insects avoid such treated plants. But when a plant is not of vigorous growth, and capable of carrying on as a perfect species, nature gives insects the job of cleaning it up. “Anything that becomes inferior in quality,” says Dr. Hansen, “Becomes food for insects, so that only the healthy plants capable of developing seed for reproduction are left to mature. Imperfection in life has a way of being destroyed if left to the devices of nature. Food products from a deficient soil should never be used for human or animal consumption, and they should never be used for reproduction again as feed”.

His explanation is as simple as it is amazing: “Microwaves from the trace elements in the Azomite catalyze the heavy metals into harmless compounds, which the plant or tree can then use or automatically return to the soil”. Hansen says the effects of different forms of radiant energy on colloids and protoplasm are being extensively studied, and that it is known that different wavelengths and frequencies may produce structural effects on colloids and organisms: ultraviolet rays can slow down or stop the streaming of protoplasm, causing increased viscosity or coagulation.
Rollin sat back and sighed, partly pleased about getting his points across, and partly in despair about the world. “We have ganged up on nature by taking the attitude that insects are invading our fields and destroying our crops. So we kill the bugs, thinking it correct. Instead we are killing ourselves. But the bugs are only destroying our crops because we are not feeding the crops their proper food. We are not giving the plants the natural trace elements which give them the access to the benefit of the microwaves of creation”. What he meant by the microwaves of creation was not to become clear to us until we met later with a brilliant ornithologist turned entomologist. But first we had to deal with an eminent biologist.......

My Dad had Parkinsons for 25 years before he died in his mid sixties. He was diagnosed at age 38 after losing his sense of smell and then developing a small tremor in his right index finger. Our family are convinced his Parkinsons was caused by some kind of metal poisoning. He was an electronics engineer, and from around the age of 14 would tinker with any type of gadget. One of my childhood memories is of me going to talk to him in his garage and finding him bent over the soldering iron working away. He spent many hours of every day doing this, without a mask, breathing in the fumes from the soldering iron. In those day we didn't know the danger of breathing metals and other chemicals in. I am convinced this is what caused his Parkinsons.

He may have ingested lead if he was careless in handling it and not getting it into his mouth. Actual lead solder does not become airborne at soldering temperatures. The fumes from flux used in soldering can be irritating and should be avoided, but many lifelong stained glass artists get blood tests for possible lead levels, and most do not have elevated levels.

    • @simonlinser8286
      @simonlinser8286 Před 10 měsíci +31

Well i started soldering when i was young, but only recently learned the smoke isn't lead! It's impossible because it would have to be way hotter to vaporize the metals, instead its just the rosin in the solder fuming away which is how rosin works. The greater danger especially for youngsters would be touching the solder and tinned component leads, and then touching your face or eating food without washing your hands, or smoking, anything that makes you touch your face or touching something that goes in your mouth. Do it enough times you'll get lead and if you're still growing it could mess you up for life. But there's probably less kids into soldering these days.

You may want to refer your patients to Tibetan doctors too. My father was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2002 and began taking Levadopa. He had a minor tremor in his hand and arm. In 2003 I found out that Tibetan medicine (always to be prescribed by a well-trained Tibetan doctor) can slow the progression of Parkinson's. The day I told my father this he made an appointment with a Tibetan doctor in Toronto. He was given medicines and put on a special diet. One can take Tibetan medicine along with regular Parkinson's meds - just leave an hour or two between them. My father continued to see the Tibetan doctor for 17 years and his Parkinson's barely progressed. The main doctor at the Movement Disorders Clinic my father also saw encouraged him to stay on the Tibetan medicine. My Dad died at the ripe old age of 93 and suffered very little over the years from his Parkinson's.

My dad worked in a tire factory for 42 years breathing petrochemical fumes. Later he also suffered two falls which left him with a head injury and spinal injury. I always believed working eight hours or more five or six days a week in those fumes was the cause of his Parkinson's. The falls didn't help. Many of his friends also suffered the same fate. The end of his life was a living hell. Hallucinations were horrible. I can still close my eyes and remember how his jacket smelled when I would hug him when he got home from work.

With Acetone, and other Alcohols. It was always a mystery. And none of the Doctors I saw ever made the connection. I used to watch in horror, as workers would clean with these chemicals with no gloves. I told them of the training I had from other companies, and that the capillaries in your fingers would absorb the chemicals directly into your blood stream. And that they must wear gloves, but they would not listen to me. I left that company many years ago, But I can still remember them cleaning ink pans in large tanks of solvent. Working in environmental health and testifying before Senate, House and joint committees I listened to the opposition--the many well-paid lobbyists representing chemical manufacturers associations, cosmetic/toiletry/fragrance associations, PR firms and organizations whose purpose was to support their members when threatened which included the largest chemical manufacturers like Monsanto. Their most common tactic was using the tobacco industry's playbook: to refute evidence by muddying the scientific waters with "research" with "contradicting evidence" that was funded by the chemical manufacturers, organization or PR firm.
Before working to change laws, you may want to consider getting the public interested and educated as they will support your efforts which is absolutely needed on both state and federal levels. Please consider making contact with and giving a copy of the book and this video to the grassroots environmental non-profits like the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and EWG (Environmental Working Group). With millions of members and being trusted sources for journalists, they will help to get this important information to the public. This would make a great segment on national news; a press conference or a press release is needed. Best wishes and keep up the good fight my brothers.

It is high time we become our own saviors, like France, and stand up and demand the cures. They all work for Big Pharma who is withholding 6000 cures, and many , many, natural medicines because they can't patent them. They are all also wealthy enough to solve our countries, and more's poverty problems, and still live their lives of luxury. So I vote we start making our own solutions, as all they do is waste our hard earned money, while lying to us. We need a new system without them.

My husband has been recently diagnosed with Parkinson's. He had the shingles shot, and shortly after developed a tremor in his left little finger. It just got worse from there. Sometimes the contaminants are not what you expect. Crimes against humanity. I watch him suffer every day struggling just getting dressed and getting around, and it's heartbreaking to know that if he had chosen not to have those shots like me, he would probably not be in this circumstance. Our whole lives have been changed.

When he got the second dose , a restaurant manager and rider brought him home after he collapsed there. Also, his brain was affected as he was not thinking straight , some kind of brain fog and he didn’t want to leave the house for the hospital.Thankfully his friend managed to get him there after visiting him a few times. My dad being a Dr tried to convince me to take the jab, I replied to him no and said I’ll see how the Astra participants do with theirs. After hearing about the bloodclots in women , I decided not to take it.

I have Parkinson's and metastatic breast cancer. I've long known my Parkinson's was due to chemical exposure plus repeated traumatic brain injuries and my breast cancer to chemicals, diet, poor sleep, and stress. I've only recently learned about the metabolic aspect of my illnesses. I've radically changed my diet, exercise, sleep, and exposure to chemicals (or as much as possible living next to an Army testing installation). I'm actually amazed at the abuse my body has suffered and yet continues to work fairly well for my age (79). I guess I owe that to my genes as it sure hasn't been from taking care of my body.

I refused to clean parts without an apron, long gloves, and a face shield. The old guys I worked with thought I was a wussy. They took no safety precautions with anything. Most of them had less than 10 fingers due to on the job amputations. They all has shaky hands and I thought it was their alcohol consumption. Nobody lived very long after they retired. Glad I moved on and stayed away from toxins, alcohol, tobacco. That stuff will kill you. 🚫

    So informative thank you.
I remember reading an article over 20 years ago in the UK Times newspaper regarding a man whose father had investigated the connection between agrichemicals and the prevalence of Parkinsons in farming communities. His name was Purdy and he was a direct descendant of the famous gunsmith James Purdy.
The article reported how he & his father had been intimidated and harrassed regarding the publication of their research by the chemical producers/ distributors.
My own father died of Parkinsons ten years ago & two of his sisters also developed the disease. All had worked on arable farms and in market gardening during the 50s/60s/70s. The remaining four siblings who were younger never worked in occupations that exposed them to agri chemicals and have not developed Parkinsons.
It is a truly terrible disease and I sincerely hope that we can stop the use of all these pesticides/herbicides as a matter of urgency.

I recall an article in the trade paper we received monthly, A quote from the CEO of a top of line fashion clothing stating that " if there is any question whether a garment might be unservicable, ie. might not withstand normal cleaning by consumer at home,
they just put a Dry Clean Only tag on it. That way , if it fails, the dry cleaner will be blamed instead of the manufacturer. For the record, TCE is not the same thing as Perc! The first is used in dry cleaning as a touch up fluid for small spots. It evaporates like rubbing alcohol very quickly. Perc is expensive to use and modern machines remove almost all of chemical before it comes out of the machine. Machines are closed systems, dry clothes go in , cleaned and dried in one machine and deodorizer before coming out..Decreasing operations may be a different animal.

My dad passed away in 2003 from Lewy Body Disease, an aggressive form of Parkinson’s. He’d been an extremely heavy smoker and had a myocardial infarction in 1985, when he was 58. He then had to have a triple coronary bypass op in 1991, plus he’d had a stomach ulcer from age 30-ish in 1957 till it was cured about 30 years later. During his operation he had a TIA, which probably led to brain damage which may in turn have contributed to the Parkinson’s. Alternatively, the helicobacter pylori may also have played a part in the conditions which led to his developing Lewy Body. P. S. Glyphosates are an abomination btw, I’m sure they’re unnecessary in many cases and I can t understand why people still use RoundUp on their gardens.

Hi, im 63 male, been studying carnivore diet for years, and on it for 2mths. Im pleased to report that of the many extraordinary results available from this diet, i have removed depression and anxiety from myself, which is almost universally reported by users of this diet. Others report substantial improvements in symptoms of parkinsons and alzheimer. Im beggining to believe that most mental illness is caused by nutrition deficit, particularly due to the war on cholesterol, wrongly identified as a prime cause of cardiovascular disease, and therefore attacked by medication such as statins. The brain runs on cholesterol, and everyone is trying to reduce their levels, with a subsequent increase in mental illness. I have had arthritis, prostate issues and many other issues reversed by eating high protein, high fat, zero sugar, zero carb, zero plant food. It also invariably reverses people out of diabetes. I have never been better or felt younger.

My father is 90 years old. He currently has Parkinson's, and barely survived Non-Hodkin's lymphoma about 16 years ago. After seeing this interview, I asked my father if TCE was one of the chemicals he worked with during his career. It was, among others. He is one of the lucky ones. He had a brilliant oncologist who saved him, and even though he is in end-stage Parkinson's, he is not suffering nearly as badly as some people do. We are lucky to be living in California in a rural location where I doubt TCE has ever been widely used, and it is is banned in California in consumer products overall. I have two boys, 19 and 23, and I'm always worried about chemical exposure that could give them these diseases later in life. We have already lost our oldest son, adopted, to non-Hodkin's lymphoma, and I always wonder if he had some chemical exposure during his early childhood or his biological mother's pregnancy that affected him and predisposed him to getting cancer at the age of 25. He was not one of the lucky ones. He suffered terribly in the last days of his life. I hope people in all states and countries will fight harder to ban chemicals that are needlessly making people suffer.

TCE (Trichloroethylene) was used to clean circuit boards, especially for defluxing. In the 70s and 80s, every electronic technician and engineer had a tray of TCE on their desk to clean up boards they were working with. No consideration for ventilation was made. In Tucson, AZ, a dry cleaner would pump waste TCE into a well, into the City aquifers that supply drinking water. The city closed a few wells, and other wells produce water with "acceptable" levels of TCE.

Everyone seems focused on Roundup, yet, there are other, much more concerning chemicals such as paraquat, rotenone, endosulfan, trifuralin and others that are likely a bigger concern. As long as we demand food at bargain basement prices, and as long as government regulators continue to quietly work for industry, farmers will continue to use them.

Did not buy dry clean items. Did not allow it at home at all. I was so repulsed by it and could instantly tell if other homes had dry cleaned items just by the smell. Also cannot step foot into a nail salon. What the heck...all those paint chemicals, a fan in the corner for 'ventilation', and paper masks for workers sitting in that air all day.

Fasting will do a great deal to prevent or help reverse dementia. Low carb will help a lot, too. Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting.
Fasting restores NAD+ to healthy levels.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy.
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' like spikes that are not supposed to be there. Whether natural or unnatural in origin..
    Fibrosis/scarring is reversed over time.
    Fasting increases nitric oxide release.
Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body.
Reflexes and short term memory are increased.
Fasts from 36-96 h increase metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release!
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles up to 1/3 of all immune bodies, rejuvenating your entire immune system. This helps prevent the onset of new autoimmune conditions, which develop through a leaky gut and damaged immune system.
Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures.
Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer.
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered when fasting, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job.
Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue!
The obese will lose extra tissue like loose skin while fasting, but the skinny or frail will have increased growth hormone release than the obese, which helps to make more lean tissue and reduce frailness.
The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting.
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell required for viruses to replicate.
What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building.
Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS.
Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to CBD oil.
Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance, which impairs immune function. One day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers. Some patients may need continued acid reduction medication while fasting.
Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No. Except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose.
Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism, fighting infection and cancer prevention!
Fasting releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer.
A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness or tremors, then simply break the fast and seek advice.

I worked in a dry cleaning place small family business. Everyday after 2 weeks being there in the pressing part I would suffer from sever headaches. At first I thought it was the loudness or the humidity in there in the summer. But it was actually the chemicals they used in the wash strong chemicals very few customers know of or hear about. So when that perfectly pressed shirt pants whatever hits the press the smell is strong. I had to quit. But remember folks you need to ask what they use while washing your items.

Both my Mother and Grandfather died of Parkinson’s. Mom with Parkinson’s with Alzheimer’s actually. They lived in Florida and back then, pesticides were sprayed up and down the streets on a regular basis and roundup type stuff was used in landscaping extensively. I am forever thankful that we moved to Virginia when I was very little. That stopped and I am hopeful that I may avoid this end. Only time will tell.

@@davidtrindle6473 I just wonder why you scientists still haven't discovered the latest, since almost a decade already NYT best-selling, Medical Medium health book series which explains in detail what causes Parkinsson (as well as all our other diseases) and how to treat it: Parkinsson is principally caused by deposits of "the toxic heavy metals mercury, aluminum, and copper interacting with each other in the brain and oxidizing there, causing corrosive runoff that spreads into adjacent connective tissue in the brain. [...] Another part is that there are large deposits of toxic heavy metals and other contaminants spread out in many areas of the brain, surrounding neurons. The neurons become hypersensitive to pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fragrances, scented candles, air fresheners, colognes, perfume, and gasoline, worsening already weak neurotransmitter chemicals. [...]" (Cited from the new MM Brain Saver book.) And the MM books also specify dietary measures for extracting heavy metals and stop oxidation. I find it a scandal that you still didn't have had a look into these ground-breaking books! Wishing you and your community all the very best!

My mother had Parkinson's lost her sense of smell in her 30s couldn't smell a roast cooking, Tremers started in her mid 60s shuffled to walk and could not raise her arms above her head, i believe its from the fly spray ( Mortine) she used to fill the manual sprayer with Mortine and spray the house to rid the flies before my father got home from work in the 1970s, us kids would run outside or hide under a blanket the smell was so strong, i have read airline hostesses were getting Parkinson's as part of their job was to spray the aircraft cabins with pesticides after every flight. I here BORAX helps remove metals from the body, maybe someone needs to do a study on that to see if it help with Parkinson's sufferers, too late for my mother unfortunately may she RIP.

I began my career as a car trimmer in 1975 and on one vintage car the wool headlining needed cleaning. I discovered that my local hardware store sold carbon tetracycline which I had heard was amazing at cleaning fabrics. It came in a metal pint tin with a screw top cap. There was a white label which apart from its name, said this warning ‘ Organic solvent. Known carcinogen. Do not inhale or allow to spill on skin. This product may cause serious breathing difficulties which may occur many years later. ( or words to that effect ).
Suitable breathing masks were not readily available in those days so I carried out the cleaning job using cotton rags to breathe through while applying the cleaner with the other, together with taking lots of fresh air and deep breaths. The cleaner made a very good job and I was exposed to the liquid for about an hour. I can’t believe that I put myself through that hazardous job just really for small change.
I remember thinking that I would likely pay for it later down the line.
I was diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease in 2020, 45 years later. I am fortunate that to date I have minor symptoms compared to others. Your interview was fascinating.

Trouble with that is that it doesn't make money. Big Pharma always either wants you to pay big money for expensive treatments if the disease is terminal, or give you a drug you have to take for life if it isn't. Oh and if you can make a vaccine for it, you can even sell it to the masses who are well. $$$. Your best best is to take health into your own hands, learn and take action. The sickness management system (health care) isn't going to as it belongs to Big Pharma.
