Not done watching so idk if you change it in the video, but the "quality" affinity actually makes your weapon worse. It gives you good equal scaling in both str and dex, so it's good if you have a high investment in both, but it also takes a big cut out of the attack rating (initial damage). In the weapon menu it's AR + scaling damage, and the first number gets reduced a lot by 'quality'. On low levels you don't have the stats to make up for the loss with scaling dmg, so it's not worth it. It's best suited for late game or ng+. You can check your total dmg in the "status" menu, top right corner. Do that to compare dmg when optimizing and stuff.
Since the samurai class starts with more dex, you might want to do a dex build that only uses str for weapon requirements. Then you should be using the "keen" affinity. If you go for pure str instead, it's "heavy", and if you want to level str and dex equally, I recommend "cold" affinity, something you'll get later on.
If you put "cold" on your weapon it gives you the frostbite buildup, and since your uchigatana has innate bleed buildup, you get to keep both at the same time, building up both with every hit.

Weapon abilities can still be used without FP but won't be nearly as effective, with the fancier ones not activating their fancy abilities.
If you think Unsheathe is OP, just wait until you get some of the other weapons. Almost every other katana has a busted ability. And that's just katanas. Be sure to read what the actual ability does by reading the description.
Keep an eye out for elevators and doorways. This game is chock-full of shortcuts, especially in the bigger dungeons. Big dungeons are also absolutely stuffed with secrets and loot around every corner. Rooftops and secret doors aplenty. If you ever revisit them, I highly recommend checking out some guides so you can grab what you missed.

if you aren't sure if you'll die from a drop, use a Rainbow Stone at the edge of the cliff. if it breaks, you'll die. if it doesn't, you'll survive but might take some damage
That first view of liurna is deff one of the most breathtaking moments ive ever experienced in any video game ever.
Out of *all* of the Elden Ring playthroughs I have tried to watch, yours is the only one I have been able to watch and dedicate my time to without leaving after 15 minutes. You make legitimately entertaining content, and you will go extremely far on CZcams!

17:20 there's actually stuff to do in there, you can jump and explore a part of the castle through the roofs, there's a lot to explore in Stormveil. Also, someone else mentioned in the comments already, but you missed an NPC near the area where you fought the dragon, there's other stuff to explore too if you end up going back there.
A tip, if you hold down the dpad it jumps back to the first item you have equipped, it helps a lot when you end up equipping a lot of different items. The same applies for spells and incantations if you end up using any.
And don't be afraid to test different weapons and ashes of war, it's easy to get comfortable and end up using only the same things when you could be having even more of a blast with different equipment, there's so many sick weapons and ashes of war it's crazy. Later in the game you can respect your character too, so if you find something really cool that is too different from your build don't worry, you'll eventually get to using it if you want.

No, it's easy to brush it off as people just being dicks and they are, but the sentiment behind it is good to consider.
Imagine you have a friend who only eats fast food, and they completely reject a good home cooked meal every single time you ask. They'll never know if they like actually that meal or not. You know it's delicious, and that probably they'd love it too if they just gave it a shot.
That's why resentment builds up, and people resort to bullying others into it. But in the end, they're just horribly communicating that they want you to experience the game at it's most satisfying. They feel like you're robbing yourself of something they know, is so delicious. So they say it strongly, mean, and shamefully.
When he beat godrick, he said "I might have to try and beat all the bosses without summons" because by golly he did enjoy that fucking meal. I wish it could've been communicated better but in the end, good food is good food.
Most of the times summoning not only makes it easier but also makes it more fun as you can cooperate with your summon

I had a big dumb smile on my face when you got all excited after beating Godrick. This feeling is truly what Fromsoft games are all about!
And let me tell you, you can't even fathom just how much this game has in store for you.
The part of the lands between you've explored up to now is just a small fraction of what there is.
Without wanting to spoil you, maybe you should check out those woods in east Limgrave again. There you might find something, that will blow your mind.
And Godrick, is only one of many many amazing bosses, each not only playing differently, but having their own distinct theme and design.
Godrick was themed around Grafting, body horror, wind, fire and so on, but there will be bosses themed around Dragons, Lightning, Spirit, Snakes, Rot, Magic, Ice, Meteors and Gravity, Deathblight, Pure strength, Light, Beasts, Albinaurics, Draconification, Rock and Stone, Fire and Giants (hehe), Accursed blood and that is only counting major bosses, most of them matching or surpassing the quality of Godrick. I hope this can hype you up even more.
This game is absurdly big, and of the highest quality throughout.
And I hope that Elden Ring is only the start of your Fromsoftware journey.

It's a minimal amount. Unless you die dozens of times, it's not much you're missing. Especially if you're killing enemies along the way instead of just avoiding combat every chance you get.

Really love your run so far. For being your first Soulslike, you're doing really well, even better than some who've played all the previous FromSoft games. Regarding the peoples' comments, I'll join the train in saying "play how you want." For a first playthrough, anything goes. There will always be someone being elitist and saying you shouldn't summon, you shouldn't use spirit ashes, you shouldn't use certain weapons, certain ashes of war (like Unsheathe), that you shouldn't use weapons with Bleed or Frostbite, that you shouldn't use spells, that you shouldn't use jump attacks, that you shouldn't use certain combinations in your Wondrous Physick. When it comes down to it, your first playthrough should always be open to anything: meet the challenges on your own terms, beat them the way that works for you. Personally, I want to see how you succeed and overcome, I don't want to see you get frustrated by limiting yourself to one strategy and missing out on all your other options.
After you beat the game, you can always come back -- either in NG+, where you keep your stats and enemies get tougher, or with a new character -- and impose challenges for yourself. Do a stream where you try to beat the game at level 1, do one where you try to beat the game with only pyromancy, do one where you use a guitar for a controller. Until you see those credits roll, though, don't hold back.

As a hardcore from fan I agree. I think we are just too used to DS. In ds, I used everything I could to win, but everything in ds was the minimum in elden ring, and I ended up playing elden ring the same way, intentionally making it harder for greater satisfaction. A first time player should just do whatever they want to begin with.
Honestly, the people saying not to use bleed and frostbite are probably bad at the game and 1 playthrough Andys.
Because the way the game scales going into NGs you need damage mitigation and abilities/ status build ups that work like bleed, frostbite, Destined Death, and Black Flame to eat hp in percentile amounts or debuff enemies.

Summoning Pools are used for gathering summon signs of other players. Basically the way multiplayer works in this is that at certain places you can put a mark on the ground that other players can see in their games if they use a certain item. Then, they can summon you to their world by touching that sign. If you use the item (The Furlcalling Finger Remedy) you can see summon signs and summon people to help you as well. The summoning pools gather all the signs in an area together so you dont have to run around looking for them on the ground.
hey if you like the twin blade make sure to yura’s quest line he’s underneath the big ruins in agheel lake if you’d want to start the quest
also there’s a mineshaft with a boss that drops a katana near the edge of calid and limgrave if you’d want to keep using katanas
something else to know is that when you used unsheath without any fp it’s a lesser version of the skill so it’ll do less than normal or depending on the skill or weapon it won’t work
The first time I saw Liurnia I knew this game is a masterpiece, please keep on playing the game, it is so enjoying watching you discover Eldenring for yourself

I'm a FromSoft veteran on my incoming DLC playthrough of Elden Ring, I'm grinning all the way through this, dude, great energy.
nice video! the editing is getting a lot better and its nice to watch. quick note on whether or not to use summons: feel free to, if you werent supposed to, the game would not give you the option! that being said, if you value the feeling of growth and improvement in your skill, summons will definitely subside that satisfaction (speaking from experience)
couldn’t have said it better myself, i used summons my first two playthroughs and i don’t regret it, but when i dedicated myself to doing a playthrough with no summons it made the game rewarding again in a completely different way and it helped me keep interest in the game consistently and become a far better player

You're doing incredibly well. Better than me, when I first played. Although, I'd like to give you a little tip that I wish I knew when I first began playing: read more of the player messages.
They are so helpful, goofy sometimes, sure, but there are so, so many secrets in this game, so many incredible, hidden weapons, areas, and items-and even bosses-that I would have missed had I not begun reading more these things.
So, next time you see what looks to be a deadend, and there's a couple of messages around. Maybe give 'em a read; maybe there'll be something behind that wall, or a ledge below that cliff?

The guy who lets you in the side actually takes some of your runes every time you die. You get them back if you kill him.but its worth it to keep him alive

Godrick is a helluva spectacle to include in the first “legacy dungeon” area. It’s amazing watching how people be disgusted by the initial cutscene and then completely in awe after the phase transition. BEAR WITNESS!!

I’ve been playing Fromsoft games for years, and I love watching the genuine reactions of people playing these games for the first time. Congratulations on your first Shard Bearer! Experiencing the high of beating a boss without summons is what many people concider the best part of the franchise.
Some quick tips;
*Many earth quake moves can be dodged by jumping
*Many weapon arts can still be used without mana, though they are no longer as strong
*If you dont see yourself using the bow as much, take it off your equipment to lighten your load

Yup, Baldachin's Blessing really does drop your HP by 10% and you get one if you don't already have one whenever you hug Fia. But hey, everyone is salty about the debuff, but forget it goes away as soon as you use it and it increases your poise, which helps you tank hits so that's good. Just gotta hug Fia before a fight you want higher poise for and use it before you get hit.

Gotta say, your instincts in this game are killer. It's easy to get turned around and lost in this game. But the one time in this video that you started going backwards (around 30:00) you p much IMMEDIATELY turned back around and continued towards Godrick without accidentally wasting estus or losing your runes. Great gamesense dude, makes your gameplay fun to watch.

Congratulations, my man, nothing is like killing a boss by yourself for the first time. You did awesome can’t wait to see more of your content.
This puts a smile on my face.
Here are some usefull tips:
- Try leveling only one offensive skill and stick to it (like for ex. dex). If you are planning on using the uchigatana with the unsheathe skill, dex would be recommended. The reason for this is the scaling on the uchigatana (it scales best with dex and str). Feel free to use other weapons/skill if you want, but as you said unsheate is very strong and in my opinion the most fun, clean and engaging way to play this game. Just make sure to look at the scaling of the weapon and level your stats accordingly.
- More important than leveling, is the upgrading of your weapon. Try to do this first when you have the chance (i.e. when you have the necessary smithing stones and runes). You can also find certain items that lets you buy these smithing stones from those creepy twins in roundtable hold. These are called bell bearings and are found in certain caves.
- A lot of new players make the mistake of leveling offensive stats too much early game. Vigor is very important and underrated, so try to get this up as soon as possible (maybe 30-35). This becomes increasingly more important when you are going to find sacred tears in churches, which can increase the amount of health that is replenished by drinking your flasks. So obviously this will be wasted if your vigor is too low. Stamina is also an underrated skill, especially with your playstyle and amount of dodging. So get some of that as well, but not too much.
- Don't worry if you make a mistake when leveling your stats, later in the game you can reset your stats ( while still maintaining your level of course).
- Just play however you want. The reason why a lot of people say to not use summons is because it makes the game a lot easier, and you won't learn how to play the game by doing that. We just want you to get the best taste of Elden Ring, and by just using your katana and unsheate is the cleanest way imo.
- Goddrick is (or perhaps was xd) a shardbearer of the Elden Ring. Without spoiling too much, there will be more of them and you have to whoop their asses in order to become the Elden Lord ( or as you would say Elden God).

Love the videos! Btw, the Boss remembrance has a few uses. 1. You can use it in your inventory and it’ll give you some runes, or 2. You can take it to the Old lady in the roundtable hold and exchange the boss remembrance and gain the weapon that the boss was using. For example, trading in Godrick’s remembrance would give you his axe or his dragon head.
Ahh a soulsborne classic. Almost killing the boss on the first try and then struggling to get any decent damage on it for the next half hour. Glad to see I'm not the only one

Ok I am extremely satisfied, the past couple playthroughs I've watched people managed to avoid the explosive barrels and the backstab so I'm happy to see one of them got you.

If you use a furlcalling finger remedy near an active summoning pool, you can summon people to your world for multiplayer. There are lots of different types of multiplayer modes, but with the summon sign, the furled fingers (other players) help you take down the boss of whichever area they are summoned to.
It’s very fun. You can try it in the next catacomb or cave you visit.
Also, there are LOTS of missable items and quests in Elden Ring. I don’t remember if you’ve already spoken to Patches and Alexander, or gone near the Limgrave colosseum to fight Istvan, but honestly, it’s your first playthrough. Don’t worry too much because the items each quest gives aren’t exactly required to have a strong build.
And running past things is a very effective tactic. If you dodge well, you can run through (or past) entire crowds of enemies without being hit, or just one powerful enemy that will de-aggro as quickly as you exit its area.
This series is great so far cant wait for the next episodes.

This has got to be my favorite Elden Ring Let's Play I've seen on CZcams. You are one of the most intelligent beginner players I've seen and are doing better than I did my first time playing! Recommended tip: Make sure you read the descriptions of all the items you pick up. Pushing X/Square while hovering over an item will bring up and extended text box with more detailed information. Not only do they contain info on the story and the characters but they often have helpful tips as well. Looking forward to the next episode!

Hey man great vid as per usual. I love watching you and seeing how excited you get when playing the game and experiencing everything for the first time. I did notice that you seem to be progressing rather quickly and I wanted to give you some advice. Put the main quest on the back burner. Take your time playing the game and explore more often because there's typically something to do around every corner. There is still a ton to do back in Limgrave, you haven't even scratched half of it. You have pretty much cleared the bottom portion of it for the most part but there 32 bosses total in the starting area, 15 weapons and 15 dungeons. Take your time and enjoy. You really want to explore as much as possible your first playthrough. And another thing. Before you go through that new area, you should definately go back to that Sifora Well elevator you found before and go down it. Also, I noticed you really like Unsheathe lol if you like that moveset and also like katanas you need to go to Gael Tunnel and beat the boss there. It drops a REALLY good katana with unsheathe but with a twist (you'll like it trust me). It is partially an INT weapon but it is by far one of the BEST weapons in the game, especially for new players. Carried me all the way through my first playthrough. Have fun homie and enjoy the game. When you defeat godrick, i was so excited, like if i beat it myself. Those emotions of the first big boss defeated are priceless, enjoy it dude!
really cool playthrough! and you are spot on - the uchigatana is one of the best weapons in the game with unsceathe, and dark souls style its somehow part of a starting class :D but no worries, there are a lot of op and fun weapons you could switch to if ud like. I hope you are doing fine playing and editing all of this, sounds like a lot of work.

On the big tower next to Stormveil Castle, you can activate Godrick's greatrune. It is really good at this level.

P.S. When you break an enemy’s poise yes you need to look for the glowing spot on the body to get the critical. It’s usually on the head but sometimes isn’t, depends on the enemy

Hey! Been watching your run for a while, didn’t want to comment until I was current. You’re doing great! I’ve seen few other streamers pick up the general sense of combat as quickly as you are.
Some tips/answers to some things you mentioned here:
You can perform skills like Unsheathe without FP, but they’ll be considerably weaker, and will often lose any extra effects (for example, Storm Stomp losing the winds and becoming just a stomp).
You picked up on having to close in on Godrick very quickly! Many bosses will try to intimidate you with long combos or large windups. That’s your cue to get in there and hit them; the game rewards being assertive (though not reckless).
When looking at items in the menu, check the bottom of the screen - there should be a toggle that says “change display (mid).” If you select it, it will give you MUCH more information about items.
