- Yall... I know it took me a minute to get this Elden Ring episode out to yall but mark my words. DON'T get used to it taking a week in-between uploads because I plan on getting on my grind again.
The biggest goal right now is getting all the conditions met so when the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC drops we can jump right into it even if I haven't beaten the base game yet.

@@guyatanosavia8487 Kinda funny how he learned how to 2-hand weapons pretty quickly and don't know how to dual wield. The way i rationalize it is to think that R1/R2 controls your right hand, and L1/L2 the other. It makes a lot more sense that way.
Then again I've played since DS1 so dunno how new souls players think about that.

Katanas are kinda bad with dual wielding. Not so bad that you would never ever use it, but katanas have really bad stagger damage, and it's even lower if you dual wield them. I had a katana playthrough and it's the first weapon type where I tried every single style for that reason: dual-wielding for DPS, two-handing for stagger and poise damage, and one-handing for a middle ground between.
You are the only first-time player I've seen who managed to sneak behind the dragon to get the key, well done.
The lore reason for why there's no stake of Marika outside Renala's bossroom is because Renala's husband(Radagon) left her to marry Marika. That's also why Renala is so lackluster in phase 1, she has no more will to fight, her phase 2 is a projection of what she would have been like in her prime(because it's a projection it isn't as strong as the real thing.)
Also always pick up items from rats since they sometimes drop rune arcs.

Edit: I also suspect she's obsessed with rebirth because of her children succumbing to different states of corruption, decay and death, but probably specifically for Ranni, who killed her own body, to escape the destiny thrust upon her by the fingers, only for her mind to inhabit a doll.
The way of the samurai :
A right hand sword for bleed damage
A left hand sword for emotional damage
They also got bloodied even when not used, adds to the intimidating factor

i just gotta tell you that when you are dual wielding weapons, you only attack with one of them if you press R1. You have to press L1 to use both at the same time. That is at least how it works with controller. Btw love the videos

Now that you’ve defeated Rennala, I would highly highly recommend exploring other builds/weapons, as the creativity you can have with builds is one of the biggest appeals of Elden Ring

I mean, I understand that the bosses can put you in a state once you've been at them for a bit, but I hope he doesn't assume that the game didn't tell him, 'cause it totally tried to...

Getting parried by Moongrum is just one of those things everyone seems to go through. He's just better than us.
Also, there is a lore reason why you get no stakes of Marika in the entire academy. Turtle pope told you about Radagon marrying Rennala, yes? Well, very simply put, Radagon left her for Queen Marika later. This leads to Rennala being in the heartbroken state you find her in, and she also tolerates no presence of Marika in her academy.
I was waiting for that fight. Hehe

Rebirthing is how you respec your stats in this game. Thats what Renalla is talking about. But you need a larval tear consumable to do it. I believe theres 17 of them in a single playthrough, and some of them are not easy to find.
Ah yes, Raya Lucaria...or as I call it "American Hogwarts", because everyone is strapped and will not hesitate to shoot. I came through there with my fists and dragon spells and had to invest in a shield because "Run up and punch them until they die" wasn't working.
0:00 also to use both swords while dual-weilding, or "Powerstancing", you should press L1 or Left Bumper. You'll swing with both swords that way.
23:00 those little items you've been activating are mostly for multiplayer. They're for summoning players to help you or being summoned by other players if you use the appropriate items.
26:20 & 54:54 So here's a fun bit of trivia. Renala, the boss of this area and leader of the school, was once in a relationship with someone named Radagon. That guy left her to marry someone named Marika. The "Stakes of Marika" are those respawn points you'll sometimes find outside of boss fights so you don't have to run all the way through the level. And in Raya Lucaria, Renala's domain, there isn't single Stake of Marika. Because why would you keep statues around that show the woman that stole your husband? It leads to Renala having of the worst runbacks in elden ring. Still not as bad as former games, but definitely not fun.

That said, if you find something called a "Larval Tear" and want to mess with your stats, you can bother renala and she'll let you move your stats around. Just be careful and be sure, because there's only a certain number of them in teh game.

That invader in front of Rennala is pretty infamous for his parries, don't feel bad about having trouble with him.

A few things. From here you may want to ask Gideon at the roundtable hold on how to progress the main story.
However theres a MASSIVE sidequest involving someone you've met before you may be interested in doing. Head to the Carion Manor at the north west part of Liurnia.
On the gameplay side youre doing great👍🏾. But as others have said you can press L1 to swing with both weapons if they are both the same type. You might want to start investing in faith or intelligence from now to have better long range options. Seals are for faith and staffs are for intelligence. Up to you though.
Really enjoyed the playthrough so far. Just remember to play how you want and only take these comments as just a thing to consider when making decisions, rather than the be all end all.

You'll cherish the Rennala fight later because she's the easiest Shardbearer boss. I always anticipate the fight in my new playthroughs. She's laughably easy if you stay close and hit her with heavy or fast weapons.
This fight is easy, if you have any semblance of patience. The modern gaming community might tell you something about how they perform.
For the Paintings like at 7:00 , if you go to the location the artist was painting their view from, you can find a treasure. So you gotta look in the paintings for landmarks and figure out the perspective. You can find the paintings again in the furthest right tab in the inventory to take a closer look. Oh and if you go back to where Thops was he leaves you something very interesting, and you can find him again outside schoolhouse classroom.
Tip 3: You can get Moongrum's entire drip in the graveyard where the zombies are if you want to try out some new armor, one of the coolest sets in the game.
Wait till he realizes L1 for dual wield and jumping L1’s
If you get a larval tear you can give it to rennala and that will let you respec your levels so you can put them into to other stats. That way you can raise your intelligence without having to level up so you can use the moon veil which is a really good weapon
Also you don't need to activate Rennalas rune since it's already activated after you beat her. Her rune is what let's you respec

I see you have found the turtle pope. He can teach you some of the strongest spells and incantations in the game If you bring him prayer books and sorcery scrolls .There are four of each type and they unlock spells that can be bought from that turtle. The scrolls and books are in different locations around the map.
You're doing great! I'll just leave some tipps to save you some time and make your life easier:
- when your stance is broken (a.k.a. your horse died or you met a very strong crit attack) you can press the dodge or jump button to recover quicker from the stun
- when dual-wielding weapons you can press the block button (L1 on ps controller, not sure bout xbox) to eventually use both weapons and unlock a unique cool moveset (each weapon class has its own unique moveset obviously)

edit - you should be aware of illusiory walls and items that get removed on impact (you missed some in raya lucaria)
- you missed some goodies there too (radagon's icon and more) some might not be in use but who knows
- you should periodically check the roundtable hold for some lore, hints and cool items and interactions
-you should be aware of night bosses like bell-bearing hunters, night cavalries, deathbirds and more that can be fought obviously only at nighttime. They drop some goodies and one of the best weapons in the game

Getting knocked off of Torrent unfortunately leaves you wide open for way too long, with a massive delay before you can actually roll out of it.
Only pour into Int, Arcane and Faith when youre buidling for magic or bleed weapons
If youre only Melee just pump into Vigor End Str Dex
You can Respec attributes at Renalla if you wanna move everything into Int (magic)
Moonveil is like a projectile version of the Ash youre using, and no sheathing first. Op✅️ .. Could do a Dex/Int build and stick with Katanas, use Moonveil.

You press LB to use your offhand item. If it's a shield, you'll block. If it's a Staff or Finger Seal, you'll use your current Spell/Incantation. If it's a weapon, you'll use its single hand light attack. However, if it's another weapon in the same category as your main hand, you'll use a new combo attack unique to those weapons.
You just holding the second weapon doesn't do anything for your main weapon like you're thinking it was. Also, Kalé sells you a telescope.

My guy, the fact that you got the academy key both times the way you did, doing nothing but exploring, is lowkey the most GOATed things I've ever seen! For a new player, your instincts in exploration and combat is amazing to watch!
Rennala's great rune is already active, there's no divine tower for it. BUT there is something important at the top of the tower. To reach it, I'd start by going to the Caria Manor, Northwest of the academy and find an old friend 😉
Also, be sure to not only check back with everyone in Roundtable, but also read item descriptions! Some have info on the lore, others tell you what to do with them!

Btw use bloody slash or divine weapon on your uchigatana they can be very strong depending on your build. There's a lot of crazy ashes of war and weapons coming in the rest of the game

This is random advice, but getting off Torrent when not moving starts an animation that gives HELLA I-frames. Really useful when in combat that lets you get on Torrent

You should talk to the NPCs about the lore of major bosses too, mainly the ones who's names pops up a lot. If you do, a lot of the bosses will make sense, especially the major ones.

There are these things called larval tears, there are about 18 of them per play through that you can find. You can use them to rebirth with rennala and respec your points/level ups into different areas (like intelligence if you want to use moonveil.) In one of your earlier videos you went to siofra river and met that abandoned merchant, he sells one. These vids are great man, keep it up!
Edit: Also, you should find more glovewarts to level up your summons, You need to talk to rodrika and the blacksmith at the roundtable and convince the smith to train rodrika for spirit tuning so she can level your spirits.
I wish the uploads was a little bit faster, I understand it’s a lot pf work and you might not have time, but I really enjoy watching your videos and a week between feels like forever 😂

in your trailer reaction video you seemed super hyped about hand-to-hand combat, go back to the merchant at the isolated merchants shack in dragonbarrow and pick up the spiked caestus. When you do, be sure to 2 hand it. Very fun weapon.

Go into faith! More versatility and cooler spells
The run back to Rennala is slightly better if you use the shortcut you unlocked. Not sure if you noticed it, since you immediately turned around after opening the door and went back the way you came. It was next to where you fought Moongrum, the knight that kept parrying you. It doesn't save a huge amount of time, but every bit helps when you die that often.
Elden Ring is actually extremely generous in most cases when it comes to the run back. The Stakes of Marika are new in Elden Ring (though DS3 was pretty generous with bonfires). In DS1, there's actually an area with zero bonfires, so you have to respawn in a nearby area and run through the entire area. That area boss is also one of the harder bosses in the game, too. It's actually not as bad as it sounds, as there's a few shortcuts you can unlock and a few skips to get you back to the boss quicker.
when entering a new area i recommend checking everywhere!! every wall! elden ring tends to hide hide things in plain sight. reading the notes people leave will help you a lot!!

Also now that you've beaten rennala, you can try different builds out cus you have the option to respec your stats.
I recommend trying out weapons/spells you've gotten or find in the future.
*Especially* dragon communion spells, most fun i had with the game.(Tho u need dragon hearts for that)

Hey quick tip if you wanna farm for rune arcs one of the graces you got in the first castle you conquered at the bottom of the map theres rats that spawn in a room next to the grace. Those rats can drop rune arcs if you kill them sometimes. Edit: AND if you want an even bigger upgrade, you can go duplicate the remembrance from the walking mausoleum in the weeping peninsula and use it for 20,000 more runes.

Another great video man! I also really hate those super fast grafted enemies. Youre making your way through the game at a good pace, make sure to fully explore Liurnia, there is quite a lot to find in this area.
oh btw, there are very few places with runbacks like the one to Renalla, so you don't have to worry about getting frustrated by that particular challenge anymore. Fromsofts previous games are more notorious for that. Btw, do you plan to play the other games after Elden ring? I would be very intrested in seeing that!

BTW the Rennala you fought in the 2nd phase is a ghost (From like a spell or something) of her from the past before she went crazy and it is meant to protect her
congratulations, you've defeated the two easiest demi-gods. From here the true experince begins.
ALSO, when you kill an enemy, and white rays come out of them, it means they dropped an item. Loot the enemies, some rarer things can be very valuable. Especially from rats, they can drop rune arcs.

Hey Davo! Congrats on beating Rennala. I was kinda hesitant like you on the 2nd phase at first and struggled a bit until i found out that going ultra aggressive right in her face is the way to go, the projectiles won't hit at close range and she can only throw her staff around.
Also some tips, when you dual wielding weapons pressing LB/L1 will combo attack with both weapons, alongside their own unique dodge/running/jump attacks, pretty much doubling your dps (i think?). Try it out, it looks badass.
And in case you don't know, since i haven't seen you using it, but on horseback you can also attack on your left side using LB for light and LT for heavy, like the regular RB/RT.

you should invade some people with those fingers varre gave you! it takes a while but you can do it in offline mode to invade npcs instead of real people, which speeds up the process. If you invade 5 people total, (whether you win or lose it doesn't matter) you can progress varre's questline, which will eventually bring you to a completely new area that is nearly inacessible in any other way! It's an endgame area with a unique boss that you're supposed to fight at around level 120. Just for the record, there is another secret area like this one, and multiple unique+secret bosses, items, weapons, and even endings that you can obtain from doing different questlines. Examples of this are Fia, Ranni, Rya, Dungeater, Goldmask, Hyetta, etc. I reccomend you do some of these questlines, because there are some amazing bosses in them, minus a couple. Especially Ranni's, which is my personal favourite.

*A small tip and a lesson moving forward:*
Dying to Rennala is a tell: it's something that happens to people that aren't aggressive enough. It doesn't mean you should be attacking that aggressively with every boss, but that's the common link between players that need to face her multiple times, and yes, attacking more aggressively can help. Attacking isn't the sole focus though, and instead there's a much more universal way to remain aggressive that tends to work on almost every enemy in the game...
*Roll foward.*
This can be explained with simple math. When you roll, you get s. This means that even if an attack intersects with your character's hitbox, you hitbox is disabled during the s, so it doesn't connect.
So what do we want to do? We want to minimize the time that an opponent's attack intersects with our hitbox, because by doing so, we increase the odds our s will last long enough to get us through the attack. And how do we do this? By rolling forward. If you roll backwards for example, an attack might "align" with your hitbox the whole time, so you've accidentally extended the time that their attack and your hitbox intersect, potentially allowing the attack to stay on you long enough that the s have ended.
But when you roll forward...? You are reducing how long your hitbox intersects with the attack. If you were to compare how long a 60 MPH car was next to another 60 MPH car driving in the opposite direction in the opposite lane, to how long that same car was next to a parked car it drove past that wasn't moving, then the one moving forward in the opposite direction would intersect for a shorter amount of time.
You found a solution in that you were strafing sideways vs. her magic, but you spent so much time avoiding her spells that you couldn't attack, and this put you on the defensive. Rolling forward by contrast would've successfully dodged those spells and put you in a perfect position to counter-attack. Since she gets staggered on hit, this even means you're often interrupting further spells from her.
Rennala may be dead, but the lesson going forward to take away from the fight is that rolling forward (either directly forward at the enemy, or diagonally forward-right or foward-left; your choice and varies by enemy) is a REALLY valuable habit to develop.
For the distance between grace and Rennala's boss arena, there is a lore reference. Those grace points are "Grace of Gold" they are belong the golden order. However Academy of Raya Lucaria is greatest enemy of the Royal Capital that is capital of Golden Order. So most probably academy didn't allow to be a grace of gold near Rennala.
On the other hand, you might think that you killed Rennala so how does she still alive. Well you basically fought a conjured version of her, like ashes of war.
