- behind the scene My railroad track Gocart with a GE 1 sp washing machine clutch and a reduction drive..mcculloch chainsaw motor with V belts Go Karts on Railroad Tracks. ,Watch the show • Dont Get Ran Over by a...
Nice shiny rails; I hope you know the schedules well.
Aww Heck that's from him riding back and forth ;)
Al, that sure could be! I was just thinking that, with that chainsaw engine wailing away, his hearing distance is considerably impaired. Rail riding can be a lot of fun, but you sure don't want to get your ass mounted on a coupler. I'm way too old to jump fast anymore.
When the vid started, I thought for sure it was some adventurous young person doing this and low and behold ya got snow on the roof.
Yeah and you are welcome to join us,,Are you good at talking to the police? if we have to explain our self
Joe Estep Sounds grand. Not sure I'm the best at being sly with the cops. But they might let off a couple of old farts trying to recapture long ago days. Maybe a gokart spread out a bit? Lets see what evil plans we can come up with.
Robert Palmore Hey, I wanna go too!!! How far away are you from Florida? Hahaha
I would welcome the company. Maybe you would be talking to the cops than I am. Sure would be a hoot though. Maybe a bigger engine though. Heck, let's see if we could put an old motor cycle engine on it. Yee haaawwww
@@joeestep76 I came across this as of 9/5/2020, so it seems 6 years later than you 1st posted.
Not sure if you're still checking comments,if so, is there a build video as to how you made this?
this dude is so gangster and he knows it
Take care there, these rails look like they are in daily use.
Joe you are living proof God has a sense of humor. You are leading the charge for the next Darwin award, my friend.
Kool.
You won't hear the locomotive running you over from behind with that noisy chainsaw motor running!
GE washing machine parts? Skateboard wheels? An old chain saw? This is brilliant
Nice.Made a twoseater myself, basically the same construction, but with a Tecumseh garden engine. To be driven when spring comes.
Wonderful,,The tracks don't hold true, you may need some side rail relief,,I have about 5/8 in compression on my inner gides
I have used some split rims from a car.
Belt driven with parts from a lawn mower.
Sorry I can not supply pics due to lack of knowledge i computers.
Dude that is polished rail!
gotta love the simplicity of it.
At First Glance I thought, That could be a bit dangerous !, But then I saw the hard hat, What could go wrong?, Just kidding of course, that things Cool by any standard.
i can tell you one thing that can go wrong the track has shine that means the track is used alot
Nice way to travel!!!!
You got yourself a contraption there for sure....but I think I'd rather smash a toe than have to sit there and listen that chainsaw motor for more than 30 seconds.
Good for getting to hard fishing areas, build it on aluminum rails for light weight with backpack straps for easy transport.
Hi Joel. I wanted to send you a kind reminder that I replied to your comment. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
... cool rig ... and so is the crash helmet ...
That's bad ass!
are you using your son skateboard tires...
Crazy old Coot!
Very primitive but it works...cool!
Good thing you had your hear hat on!
I like the brake shoes.
Your go-kart has an awesome drive train!
Cool minimalism !!
A better option would be like snowmobile with a chain from the motor to the centrifugal clutch. Just an idea/thought.
Once you get north of Sonoma County, CA there are literally a thousand miles of abandoned NWPRR lines and private logging rail. There are some "rail riders" clubs using converted/updated rail vehicles of many types. We also have a local population of Estep's. Until I saw the fresh ballast and shiny track I thought you were riding in my backyard.
sound like beavis & butthead laugh at the end
The equivalent of an ultralight airplane -just on rails
i am a logger and the motor doesn't sound right. i could be wrong of course but it sounds like the clutch never engages. maybe you need a bigger reduction ratio it looks pretty direct and if its direct it should be going like 40 mph if the saw is running at full speed
WE were really light with the throttle that day and with the camera
Joe Estep
still pretty cool
Looks like it may have a little trouble going through a switch. It's a little low and those roller bearing /flanges may be a little wide going through frogs and guards.
+fabio40 yes you are right
That's cool
Very cool
Looks like the track is still in use, you might need rear view mirrors )), maybe a bigger engine, great job
thats cool as hell. wish you could build me one
I love it !! I bet you are never board !!!
nice and simple . I like it. I've always wanted to do this but we don't have many old track in this part of the country
Awesome
As far as I know we in the UK have no redundant rail Tracks so that could do what you have done, but anyway it looks fun and Safety 1st. : )
looks like fun
Have gum, will travel!
very kool.
He would never hear a train comming over him chewing that gum jeeze.
Bravo Zulu my friend! Looks fun!
What happens when you meet a train coming at you. Those tracks look like they are still used????
Raymond Farwell get up and pick it up, it can't be that heavy
The rails are shiny...I hope you're good at jumping!
Shiny rails no problem. Put the rearview mirror on. Pay attention, if the train comes, bail. Oh yes, DODGE YHE FLYING PARTS. Its what I'd do.
How cool!
Thanks,I have more videos in the making and a new rc dolly cam.
Nice!
A little noise but more efficiently what the trains here in brazil!
have you ever tried using a bigger chainsaw engine? because that would be badass
Hi Joe! I'm intending to build one by myself, if you can give me some answers, advices, i would be very grateful! I want to build one to carry 2 persons in a rail cart with this kind of wheel (skate wheel or manual forklift wheel). I want to put a engine of 4.4hp / 4strokes. Do you think that the traction working in just one wheel works well?
my traction works well with a 49cc motor pulling 200 lbs,But I work my speed up little by little. You will just have to try different things and test it..I like back yard builds gocart and he said he wore his bearing out.and wheels after many miles
Kinda pushing your luck with wheel diameters that small. Are the horizontal guides spring loaded or rigid?
I was expecting to see a tea table and maybe a chess game going.
Thats awesome man
You should put a torq a verter on there.
McCulloch never saw this coming when they designed their Power Mac's. Imagine if you put some bigger CC's behind that pulley.
I like this rail cart a lot. But what do you do if a train is bearing down on you?
Nice!
how far on a tank of fuel??? how far til the engine blows up???if you brought spare fuel could you ride all day?
I love the cart, but please ride it on abandoned tracks. It's very dangerous and is illegal.
Is it possible to go over railroad crossings? Doesn't look like it. That looks awesome tho
Darwin award. Teeny tiny wheels? Really?
Shiny rails? Really?
What if he sees a train behind him how scary that would be
Haha, that's awesome Joe
Hi Joe - pretty cool rig - check out what my buddies and I are doing on the RR-Tracks: TESTING Rail Bike (Recumbent Bicycle Style) - 1st Voyage of Rail Shark Jan 2014 v1
it seems kinda weak on horsepower a chainsaw motor Is a great way to make it light weight and fuel efficient but what if you want to go faster? I suggest at least a 2 or 3 maybe even a 4 hp engine on it it will be able to go faster and more seats and people can ride
Proof where there's a will there's a way..
Sweet!
How well does it navigate switching points? Or do you have to pick the blasted thing up and carry it over?
rlt94 it dosent work on switching tracks
That's what I figured, well at least it is light weight.
bravo good idea!!!!
Are those weels skate weels
Is that right front wheel made by Kryptonics?
rope got caught in the motor lol
uhhhhhhhhhhh #1 those are active tracks......very shiny rails so it is a active line #2 since those are active tracks this is trespassing...uhhh other than that..really cool!
The rails are used occasionally, they lead to some small factories.years ago they were more active when the old train station depot was open
good to know.....At least it is not like in Folkston GA or Chesterton IN lol that would be quite interesting
+Paul Rude If it was folkston your ass would be in jail for real.....LOL I love this cart
+youbeen hoaxed "for real"?? Are you 12 yrs. old??
Have you talked with Union Pacific about leasing lines for public transport?
I would like to go from downtown Chicago to home after a night of drinking. Metra doesn't run trains after 12:30 AM.
+DirtCheapMeals Quit the drinking, save money & go home to the little woman after work.
EASY!
I have some abandoned tracks near me and would love to build one
Effective use of them bearings as guides......
Hi Joe! Can you explain to me where did you buy the wheel adapted to the belt? Did you do it by yourself?
similar to a skate board wheel but not plastic they get hot and melt and I had to turn the wheel on a drill had no lath and guessed at what looked like a pulley notch with a make do tool..I was very poor in 1991,,maybe you could put 2 skate wheels side by side and machine a notch for the belt not sure what I would do.seems like its allway product research and development and if you make one consider the tracks are not all ways even.
Thanks Joe!
Very Best video and crazy this is amazing;-)
Is that a chain saw motor? This is Great!! :D
+ Big Toys for Big Boys That's what the topic said
+Big Toys for Big Boys Did you not read the title?
Aye
I love it
I want one!
I dunno, man, those bars are bending a fair bit under his weight. And he's gonna have some pretty serious torquing problems if the side bearings ever hit something.
What do you want for a contraption run on a chainsaw motor! I want to know what milage he gets!
how many miles did you do on a full tank?
Cool! But... How did you do that that the motor only runs when gas give?
I used a bicyle cable to my carburetor to a lever,,just like you would on a gocart
Joe Estep Thanks!
how did you attached the wheels to the frame?
+Eric Deckers I used some parts from the kids toy Click & Go or twist&go 1980s stuff.with the 5/16 shaft factory made on it. and haven't seen another toy like that since ,,put a pipe in a pipe that had a 5/16 shaft on it.
Couldn't you use an electric motor like on my e-bike?
webnut2000 yes that would be nice
Joe Estep then you would be able to hear the birds :-p
+webnut2000 or the train coming....LOL
It needs a selfie stick holder
You used a power mac 6 thats one of the smallest macs they made put a 1010 on it or somthing
I like the light weight design and the fact that the axle could be designed to slip over each other to allow for different gauge rails. My question is what or how did you make the v pulley on the drive wheel out of?
That is just a skate board wheel not the plastic ones, they get hot and a home made turning device for the cut v slot..
Thanks for your reply! So is the V cut made in the wheel itself or is it another part fabricated and fixed to the skate board wheel?
yes, the V cut made in the wheel itself
thanks
its fun
What kind of clutch mechanism is that?
GE hotpoint 1 speed washing machine clutch
What is the name of the White role
put some bigger wheels on it and tighten the belt.
Watch out for trains! lol
is that a Beacon electric hardhat out of Cincinnati ohio, might want to cover the name next video, anyway rock on and live.screw the railroad and their regs.
put a bad ass horn on it
teacher teachers congratulations
Damn, u get hit yet? those tracks look used like heck. but great video! it was worth the risk!
Ya, Madd TV should make a parody of this
i think i would have used rubber or nylon wheels for the keeper wheels and not steel wheels
yes I think so also,if I had some the same diameter
other than that this thing is cool as hell
But, mon amour, WHERE is the cold-bière that you should be enjoying...oui?
Amélie Renoncule Thank you. Someone with Joie de Vie! : )
Hope it wasn't a live track, oops here comes a train....
