Looks like a Shimano 7 speed internally geared hub in a bicycle frame mounted inverted into a custom platform . I love the small centering wheels to keep the tires on the center of the rail . This sort of use would be perfect for tubular tires (sew-ups) with their high inflation pressure , low rolling resistance . Fewer flats on the rail than if used on roadways , too . No glass or thorns .
many people obviously doesn't live near or have played near a railroad track are commenting that a coming train from front or behind will hit you by surprise. You will know a train is coming from a few miles away, not because of the horn, but because of the sound from the tracks themselves, you have ample time to carry your bike or trolley out of the track, i assure you. unless you are sleeping, blind or deaf.
Is there a map of railroads in the US to tell which ones are mostly not in use? A straight one like this is fine, but a curvy one... if there is a train coming round the corner at you -- oops!
now to make a really cool video would be to hoock a long rope on a passing train and let it tow a trail bike but five times the speed is it too much to handle , speed wobble, could it be designed for it , maybe rubber in rope for easy start , risk of stepping into rope loop , helmet , armour , ejection seat, parachute , airbags for falling to side, paddings or air filled , even a safety cage or shell, but detachable from bike. how about a giant ball rolling o the tracks , pulled by train. ball of branches or plastic or rods pipes. and guy inside on a chair on side bearings . . or like could use an old car pulled behind train w normal wheels on side of trracks or no rubber and iron wheels on track , but rubber coating inside them. or rope and parachute fly benind train. any of those ideas can be very dangerous but some might be rather safe maybe if well designed and done. some choose some danger risk for fun, its popular on youtube like skydiving . or wings from airplane attatched to old car pulled on wire behind train till it flies. in sstrong headwind like a kite. ...tyu
You might find a shortline rail company that might grant you permission to ride their track.....most of the shortline railroads have Class 1 track that only haul freight and the max speed on that class of track is 10 mph....if you think Union Pacific or CSX will grant you permission to use their class 4 or 5 track, you are out of your freakin' mind....max speeds for passenger trains on a class 5 track is 90 mph.
I believe 45 mph is a wild guess! Show me a speedometer. Even drugged up Lance Armstrong would be highly tested to do 45 mph on level ground on no less than a 16 lb 20,000 dollar un-faired racing bicycle. These guys were wearing blue jeans, and boots with no fairing. Good idea though. Make use of unused track for enjoyment.
That's a hell of a frame, nice job guys. This is by far the best execution I've seen on youtube so far.
Next project... the tandem version! Really awesome design and execution!!

Looks like fun, good job guy's.Looking forward to your next project.
where did you get your wheels for the engine powered cart?
Where is this place? Looks like some fine rail to bike down.
Очень круто,забавное изобретение !!! С меня лайк.)
Will it change tracks on points with that configuration?
holy rollercoaster! where may I apply as a test pilot!?
This is fantastic 👏
That is what you call riding the rails.
I need to know how to make one of these.

Awesome, all it needs is a martini glass holder :)
those are awesome, and if a train comes just carry it of the track!
great invention ...
is this on a working rail line??i thought it was illegal
Is there some reason we get to hear the engine whilst the video is about a rail bike?
The nice thing about the human powered would be cruising in "silence"!
One of "Northern Nevada's" lines?
Crazy!! You only live once hahaha!!! Awesome I wish I could have a ride on them both!!!!!!
great idea -- fantastic view - U should build an electric version so you can enough the ride in peace and quiet
Cheers, Patrick
I would love to buy that.
good job
Can I get one and how much are they
pretty cool... needs a rear view mirror or a rail vibration detector since you can't ride in the passing lane.
You need one of those model t exhaust whistles on your engine
I wonder what kinda fuel mileage a guy could get going 20 miles to the hour
If a train comes along at 100 mph you just have to be fast at getting off the track..........good luck...looks like fun.......
You guys are having to much fun..
+Bigwingrider1800 AGREED... oh my goodness...... I am looking at my retirement sport here........ wow......
Мне кажется или это очень быстро???
It s so fast!!! Cool!!
Nice

Hank Schrader?
Hope there’s a way to disassemble it so you won’t run into trains the hard way
These are abandoned rails
It's all fun and games until a train comes at you
These are abandoned rails ;)
Hahaha! Awesome!
Better watch where your goin, don't be lookin back.
Since it is on rails, don't you think you could close your eyes for 2 hours while pedaling your heart out and still be on the same track?

This line has been ripped up for recycling! A tragic loss. I just drove over it a couple of weeks ago and it was a pile of ties and rails.
I was wondering when they were going to get the steel. Too much money in it to let it sit there.
It is all fun till the railway cops see ya
F in e bike would be all some quiet and fast .
put a sail and a bicycle motor on it
What's a bicycle motor?
kind a illegal? you could do time for this. I love the idea.. maybe two bikes would be better.
Uooooooou like man

Its B.S. I've got one of the fastest recumbents made and can hit 30 mph at full speed but I'm working hard at it. That guy MAY be doing 18-20!
@@MrBobzilla1959Probably more like 12 to 15. They don't look much like bike riders.
@@azopene yah he's not really pedaling hard at all and doesn't look like he could anyway!
No need to add a weight if you would have used an steel flanged wheel...……...
레일로드
Put a sail on it
Would be nice to lose the outrigger
Dale Wildey You in the circus?
When cyclicts need training...
If you get hit by a train then you will know the real meaning of recumbent .
That's why you ride only on abandoned rails.
when the train comes your dead!! What a stupid idea
This was an abandoned rail
Looks to be dangerous, stupid, and illegal......
It's perfectly fine. This was an abandoned rail.
I wonder what kinda fuel mileage a guy could get going 20 miles to the hour
about 60 burning 1 gallon every 3 hours
