do the original, he's in his prime then .
Crap! was expecting the lyric or music video.
Studio version is better.this just wasn’t my thing at all but I love this song
Agreed… do the original music video of this song when he was in his prime
Meatloaf has a great voice, you keep watching videos near the end of his career
Nice arrangement, but I'd check out the album version if you really want to see how powerful his voice was - this appears to be later on in his career, and his voice isn't quite what it was. Nothing wrong with this, but on the original, his voice is simply amazing!
tried to do to much, his vocals are awful compared to the album and other live performances
This was at the point when his voice was shot. Sad to see him struggling through a song he once sang with such beauty. And yes Meatloaf once did have one of the most powerful voices of all time. Don't sell him short
^ This
Thank you for saying this. It's borderline disrespectful to choose a performance years past an artist's prime and judge their voice based on it. Smdh
Unfortunately Britt has continued reviewing painful performances despite having been directed to his earlier powerful work. Not sure why…? It is a shame because she can be very insightful.
@@IRHRRetired I understand and don't blame Britt. She's trying to avoid copyright strikes by using the original which the record label owns. It's not her fault
@meeshrick Well said....
Thanks for reacting to this song but as many others have said you need to watch Meatloaf's earlier renditions of his songs to really appreciate his powerful voice. R.I.P. to a great legend
Meatloaf WAS a great vocalist!! These videos are much later in his career, when his voice was not what it once was. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE react to him from early in his career. You will not be disappointed!!!!!
you really need to listen to meatloaf when he was younger he had a fabulous vocal range.
Can we request the performances earlier in his career when we make requests please? This stuff ain't it when it comes to Meatloaf we need to request stuff that captures his essence. and this isn't it.
You have to listen to the original, it is phenomenal
As many have said... In his later years l, his voice just wasn't what it once was. Early live songs or studio versions are the best way to experience him.
One song of his that didn't get a lot of recognition was Objects in the Rearview Mirror. I think you will love it. It's filled with emotion and power from him.
I wish you would watch some of his videos. They are unbelievable. I just love him so much. ☮️
Please stop watching live versions from late in his career. Check out the originals. He had an incredibly original and amazing voice which deteriorated as he aged. Very few hold a candle to Meatloaf before his voice started to fade.
I agree he had such a stage presence that no one could match. It's sad to see how much his voice deteriorated as he got older. He was a true legend.😢
I agree, I'm so disappointed that she doesn't really know what captured our hearts so long ago. Some live versions are good, but for the most part they aren't, especially when they are from late in their careers. And to say he doesn't have a strong voice...it keeps getting worse. I get where she hears this and isn't very impressed, it's night and day from the original
She has been referred to his earlier work but keeps commenting on his later sometimes painful performances. I had stopped watching but saw this review and was hoping it was from the official video. Alas…
RIP to another legend! He was a great story teller!
Meatloaf was phenomenal in his earlier days. You really should watch the official videos because they tell the whole story. Much like the Gorillaz, you should watch them in order to get the full effect.
You’ve completely missed what actually is one of the greatest, strongest voices you’ll ever hear. Watching a legend at the end of his career with declining health is pointless. I love your reactions to artist at their best, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Ian, and others. Please go back and hear Meatloaf at his best.
All the best Meat Loaf songs were written by the genius composer Jim Steinman. Nothing beats Steinman songs performed by Meat Loaf. Both passed away within a year during 2021-2022. RIP 💔
This was such a powerful song to me when it came out
Love this song but I am not crazy about this version!
Studio version is better but that was absolutely beautiful
You need to check him out in his prime tho
When he was younger, he was a Heldentenor, or heroic tenor. He was offered a fortune to sing opera but that wasn't his calling. When he auditioned for The Rocky Horror Show (play), Richard O'Brien told him to not worry about not being able to sing all the words to Hot Patootie. He said he wrote it and even he couldn't sing them all. Meat Loaf just said, "I can sing them." And, then he proved it, night after night. He did the same thing in the The Rocky Horror Picture Show (movie). To really hear his voice at his best, you have to listen to the tracks on the Bat Out of Hell album. Paradise By The Dashboard Lights with Ellen Foley is legendary.
Listening to this version of the song really HURT. His voice is gone, compared to him in the late 70"s So SO SO SO SO Much better when he was young. This brought tears to my eyes...
I was right there with you! I was literally wincing at some of that😢
I’m with you not sure why she insists on reviewing these versions.
Checking out live performances is cool, but I would give my first listen to studio versions of almost all songs the first time around. It's what most of us heard the first time and I'd like to compare your reaction to that of mine so many years ago. Thank you!
You have to here the original! Such a strong heartbreaking sound.
This is one of my all time favorite albums of all time. I've bought 3 cassettes and my daughter just got my a CD for Christmas last year. We love this. But you really need to hear the original when he was younger to get the full affect if his voice. This is a beautiful song.
On the contrary, his songs are ridiculously hard to sing and perform. He had the most beautiful, powerful, raw, otherworldly voice during his prime. When I first heard him 30 years ago when I was six, I thought such a sound could only have come from an angel.
Please do try some of the studio versions of his songs from the 1970s-1990s. :)
Listen to His early70s, He had an Amazing voice; but He a medical issues that damaged it, very heartbreaking, but He battled Back, and came close to what He once had.
Meat has amazing vocals. This just happens to be later in his life when he had lost his ability to belt out a song. When you react to Meat, you need to watch/listen to his earlier days and/or his studio versions.
He's actually quite a GOOD Vocalist. You're watching him much much later in life.
I feel as if a part of my youth died with the passing of this wonderful entertainer and genuine human being. Marvin Lee Aday (Michael) AKA Meatloaf your musical performances will live on! Thanks for the decades of memories. Great song selection Britt!
Some of my all-time favorite lyrics:
"I tried to show you just how much I care
I'm tired of words and I'm too hoarse to shout
But you've been cold to me so long
I'm crying icicles instead of tears"
Britt, always do the original video or studio version for first reactions. This let’s you hear the songs as we heard them first.
I like your reactions but I don't know where you keep finding these off the wall versions of some really great songs. Play the ones with the most views.
It seems that you missed the story line of this one because you got caught up in the theatrics of the performance. I want you, I need you, but there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you. Now don't be sad cause 2 out of 3 ain't bad. The song starts with him talking to his current lover and ends with him talking about a previous love that hurt him with the same words. Meat Loaf was much more than a performer he was a true entertainer.
I don't get why people keep giving you really bad links to react to.
Maybe it's because you're watching vids, I assume recommended to you by subs, of a guy way past his prime. Seriously, if you're gonna opine on the dudes voice at least listen to him in his prime.....by this time in his career he'd already collapsed onstage twice and almost died. His voice isn't what it was in his early days....oh well.
Album versions please, just doesn't do justice to him
Jim Steinman (piano) wrote all of the songs on this album. Unfortunately, we lost both of them within a couple of months of each other.😭😭😇😇
I still have this album on vinyl.
"I know you're lookin' for a ruby in a mountain of rocks,
but there ain't no coupe deVille hiding at the bottom of a crackerjack box".
He (DOES HAV TH VOCALS), he IS/WAS, 1 of th BADDEST A - -, vocalist/performer’s of this century, he IS/WAS, Tymeless, (LEGEND)
never heard this version afore in my life. thank you Britt! I love this song. it has so much meaning that the listener cannot grasp until the closing. some never get it. meat loaf once said, "I'm not a singer, I cannot sing, I am an actor. I act out vocally the character I am portraying." he did that well!!!
Thanks for sharing that, I hadn't seen that particular performance before. Meatloaf was a treasure.
This is after he done permanent damage to his voice. He kept performing because he loved it. Brave man
Meatloaf first sang opera when he was much younger. Later he had breathing issues due to weight and then cancer. He had an amazing voice when he was young
the album "Bat Out Of Hell" was released in 1977, that is the Jim Steinman lyrics/Meat Loaf (with Ellen Foley) singing and those live performance videos to catch his on stage charisma and performance.
*became a High School Dance staple*
I love Meatloaf. He is every theater kid singing his way through life and YES... it is a musical.
Meatload started his career on Broadway so it's no surprise his songs/stage pressence is theactrcial. Check out his perfomance when he was young in the movie version of Rocky Horror Picture show with the great Susan Surrandon and Tim Carry. Then played/as the father in the first part of Jack Black's "Pic Of Destony". Like Ronnie James Dio (camro is the the same musical ( song)after Meatloaf).
Hard to tell in this video, I think the blond back-up singer is his daughter, Pearl. She toured with him on occasion.
Next Meatloaf tune: "You Took the Words Right Outta My Mouth".
Yes, it is Pearl.
There will never be another artist like Meatloaf.
Britt , you really need to go back and watch the official videos for his songs. All of these live versions you are doing come from later in his career when his voice was not as good as when he first came out. This version has a long acoustic guitar intro that while good isn't part of the original. When the Bat Out Of Hell album came out he had one of the most powerful voices in music. Watch the official video for the song Bat Out Of Hell.
Because of the faded video, I can't be sure. In most cases when you see an acoustic with a black cover over the tone hole it's called a Feedback buster. It eliminated the sound from the monitors or speakers being picked up by the mic in the guitar avoiding what is called a feedback loop. (high-pitched squeal) you wi see an electric guitarist standing in front of their amp (ala Jimi Hendrix) using that feedback as a sound effect.
Acoustic guitars come in two varieties, folk guitars and classical guitars. Folk guitars have steel strings (often with bronze winding but not always) and classical guitars have nylon strings. "Spanish" guitars are classical guitars played in the "Spanish" style, much like fiddles are violins played in a different style.
You need to watch Meatloaf back from the 1970s and 80's! He had a lot of health problems later in life which affected his vocals a lot and If you watch him when he first started out his vocals were unbelievable and beautifully strong beyond measure, it's what made him famous in the first place, his amazing unbelievable voice! Back in the beginning his voice was perfect!
He knew how to use his voice and making the listener feel a certain way is what's its all about
Sad really, I saw him live around the time of 'I would do anything' and he was amazing. I think he knew his voice was going here and you can hear him REALLY trying to give it some of his old timbre, and not really making it. Even so, fair play to him for getting up and giving it as go - and for all the times that he DID knock it out of the park. Stunning performaer on form and he WILL be sadly missed. We'll not see his like again
RIP, Meat.
Meat was on Broadway in Hair, Jim Stienman wrote so many stories in the form of songs for Meatloaf. A perfect fit.
The "other guitar" is an acoustic electric guitar (just a normal acoustic guitar with the electronics built in). The soundhole is covered to help prevent feedback in a live setting.
As I've told u in the past Meat always gave his all and put everything he had in his performances
This is my favorite Meatloaf song & probably top 20 songs period for me. That said, this wasn't a great performance.
I know the "1 reaction" rule but it's so worth it to check out the original studio version. It's an absolutely beautiful & heartbreaking song.
Find the music video on youtube or vemo to see his younger version when is voice was still very strong. Makes all the difference.
Brit, you are right on point with your assessment of this performance, but in his younger years, his voice was a power house. Videos of performances in his later years do not show what an amazing artist he was in his prime.
I really, humbly suggest that you watch the original video for this song. Remember. Vids in the 80s told the story too...
This was my favorite meatloaf song, this was HUGE
I saw him. Great singer and showman. He passed away....it saddened everyone
This song, off of the platinum album ' Bat out of Hell', songs by Jim Steinman. What an album! RIP Jim and Meat!
Bat Out Of Hell does not have a bad song on it. Go buy it. Like now. Digital, CD, vinyl, whatver, Buy it! It will become one of your favorites in a hurry.
Studio version is better
the earlier version shows his sound and draws you in and gives goose bumps.... this one what after a bunch of things happened
Please do the early one from the 1970’s it’s so good, I don’t know where this suggestion came from but him earlier is much better.
Also, I didn’t see exactly what the guitar player was doing with that long sustain note, but there are special devices that will allow you to do things like that usually what they do is use magnetic fields to continue the string vibrating after it normally would’ve stopped. I believe the most common them is called an Ibo.
React to the original and you will change your mind about his voice. Out of respect for him, please do it, and post it, we'd love to see that reaction.
You have a fabulous channel, but please listen to comments. Obsession with live performance for a first listen is causing you to shortchange yourself.
"There ain't no Coupe DeVille hiding at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box."
Percy Sledge | When a Man Loves a Woman......This is SOUL.
You want passion while singing, a velvet voice, and a drop dead gorgeous performer, you have to listen to Lara Fabian sing Adagio, Broken Vow and You're Not From Here from her Live concert "From Lara with Love" back in 2000. Phenomenal...
Meat loaf didn't just sing the song....he BECAME the song.
If the sound Hollyn in Acoustic Guitar is plugged, it usually means that it’s plugged into an app. Acoustic guitars another hollow bodies of a tendency to feedback when the sound hall is open and it’s being run through an application system.
It is an electro-acoustic guitar, an acoustic guitar you plug in to an amp.
... and the thing blocking the hole is to help prevent feedback.
RIP Michael Aday, gone too soon!
disappointing you didnt use the video of him when he was younger
Ive seen Meatloaf live. He was awesome, but i have to say, ive never seen a decent live video of him.
All the song you have done so far have been written by Jim Steinman. He wrote somgs for Celine Dion, Barry Manalow and Bonnie Tyler (Holding Out For A Hero and Total Eclipse Of The Heart). He had a song called Dance in my Pants with Karla DeVito which is worth checking out.
Two Out of Three Ain't Bad (Meat Loaf 1977)
Two Out of Four Ain't Bad* (Elvis TTWII 70)
*Elvis said that about faulty microphones.
Oh, Britt, I've noticed you go to Meat's newer live performances. Sorry to say, he is so not near his prime then. Go to his earlier or even studio performances for the true fullness of his voice. He, and you, deserve that.
Most acoustic guitars today are built with electric jacks to amplify them. Some have soundhole pickups and some have a soundhole mute. An acoustic guitar can sound just like an electric guitar when amplified.
The electric guitarist was making that note with the aid of a footpedal that gives endless sustain. You just push down on the string and the vibrations will carry the note as long as the finger is still manipulating the string slightly.
R.I.P. King you'll be missed.
The sound hole cover is on because the guitar is amplified. This way all the sound goes to the amp.
Like everyone else has said, please do the studio version. It’s so much better!!
If you listen to the track from Bat out of Hell You may be more impressed He was much younger then .
Me and both of my daughters will sit in the car and sing any of these songs word for word if it comes on. 😂😂😂
He's waayyyy past his prime in this performance. Check out a live version from earlier in his career or the studio version to get the full brilliance of the song.
That is a steel string, six string acoustic guitar.I believe the name on it said Taylor.
I agree with everyone else! Do earlier versions! It's actually an awesome song! Younger days were better!
This is Meat later in life and his voice is definitely not as sharp as when the song was released 25 -30 years before this.
I remember a quote from the radio, but I couldn’t tell you who said it or the exact wording, but it was to the effect of “the studio version is the well polished version, while the live version is gritty and in the moment.” Some music is going to be better “live.” There’s a version of Free Bird done after Lynard Skynard was all but wiped out in a plane crash where the singer has the audience sing in tribute. Pink Floyd’s The Wall full concert was also good.
Most music is better in the polished studio version, though.
I always liked that line “there ain’t no coup deville hiding at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box.”
You should have done the original from back in the day.
I think you're undervalued his voice😢
Still an acoustic guitar. The black thing in the sound hole is rubber and helps cut down on feedback from runaway vibrations. Acoustics generate their sound through the vibration of the top, and stage volume at that level will cause acoustic guitars to “take off” if you don’t keep the vibration in check. If you ever hear the term “feedback buster,” they’re talking about the piece that fits inside the sound hole 👍🏼
Oh yeah, as far as the sustained guitar note, two possibilities: the first is that there is a “Sustainer” system installed which will actually mechanically vibrate the strings to counteract any decay of the natural sustain. If not the Sustainer, there are certain points on stage where certain frequencies tend to feedback with enough stage volume and compression. When the note is held a feedback loop is created and can literally last forever if you don’t move away from the spot or intentionally mute the string. Very effective stage trick, but like magic tricks, much less magical when you know how it’s done. That is taking nothing away from the guitarists, as that’s what makes a great performance, and both are A-list, elite level musicians.
Now you know…🤷🏼♂️
Awesome song great vocals great reaction by you again thank you so much for sharing your video with us love it Britt.👍
That is a pretty intro but for me, nothing compares to the studio version
Britt your driving all of your Meatloaf fans crazy. We beg you to play this song in the original album version. This was his biggest single for many years.
