    The Hunting Camp is also free and doesn't uproot as many trees when you place it so it's better to use that to move your animals. Also if you map out the farming area with roads instead of fields, you can have your logging camp work in that area to clear the land so you don't lose the timber.

      Was going to say the same thing! Though there's enough openings that I usually don't remove any trees with camps.
      I guess it is a personal preference to not simply make fields of trees disappear - it feels like cheating the game to me.

      Consider the shrine. It has the smaller footprint than hunting camp

    When you are moving the herd location, leave the construction plot there until the herd is where you want it. The construction plot will act as a block and prevent the herd from going back to that area as it randomly is moved around in the wooded areas. When you have the herd where you want it, hit the TAB key and all the construction plots will be shown and then you can go back and delete them before unpausing. Also, I like to make a road that goes around the perimeter of the herd and berries encircling them. This way it acts as a reminder when placing buildings and helps to keep you from inadvertently spooking the animals, also when doing any kind of logging/woodcutting nearby with their advanced setting designation work areas.

    One other thing to do - check the placement of your mineral resources to make sure the supporting structures can access them. I had a great starting map with rich hunting grounds and rich iron deposits. 20 minutes into the game, I try to place my iron mine and I can't because it's on too steep of a slope.

      @Flesson19  Před měsícem

      I just had that happen for the first time with a rich iron

    I'd always start by upgrading the original settler camp (aptly named "homeless tents") into a workers camp. Many people don't even know you can do that, but it only costs 1 timber and prevents the approval dropping below 50% because of homlessness. That way, as soon as you build some burgage plots you will immediately start attracting a new family into your settlement when the 2nd month starts. Those extra families the beginning of the game make a big difference as there's always a shortage of workers to fill all the workplaces you want and have some free for construction.
    After that I pretty much do the same thing you do, but when I plot out all those buildings while the game is still paused, I would also suggest assigning a priority to them so you can control the order in which they are built. When you select a building under construction, it is by default set on "medium". My preferred order:
    1 "Highest": Workers camp & Granary (also as soon as the granary is done, assign a family to it so they will start bringing in your starting food supply to prevent them being destroyed by rain)
    2 "Very High": Logging camp & 2nd hitching post (as soon as logging camp is done, assign family to start your timber production as soon as possible & when they start building the hitching post, order a 2nd oxen at the original one)
    3 "High": Storehouse (also assign a family to that right away to store your other starting supplies)
    Some small differences in my approach: I generally only start gathering 1 food resource at the start, preferably berries as spring is the prime season for gathering those. At the start of the game you have enough food and firewood to survive a couple of months anyway so I focus on building 2 burgage plots in stead. I make these 2 long double plots so I can give them a big vegetable garden that are being tended by 2 families each to give another easy food source as well as making room for that 1st new family to move in as soon as the new month starts. I also create a market area in front of the granary and storehouse big enough for around 30 stalls, so the granary and storehouse workers can start providing food and firewood to the homes.
    Only once I have done all of that and unpaused the game do I build the woodcutter for firewood, the sawpit and hunting camp (and subsequently the tannery)

    Use a burial ground or hunting camp to move animals around. If your land isn't fertile but you have a rich animal supply use the rapid breeding policy instead of wasting development points on the double meat, it's really not worth it. Double berries is definitely worth it.

    Thank you for the content A lot of good thoughts here.
    First, if one wants to migrate the herd, better to use the Hunting Lodge since it has a smaller foot print than a Corpse Pit.
    Heck, thinking about it, the herd might move from an animal pen singing “Don’t fence me in”. I don’t know yet if you have to “steer” the animals towards the berries of not.

    Wow. I didn't know that you can move the areas of animals. This is awesome. Thanks Flesson!

    A tid bit for everyone, the Ox will take the first log to the first thing ordered regardless of the build priority.
    A related note, the first Storage unit completed will receive the free arms items even if they are turned off in the advance setting

    Do this trick to move the hunting camp work for rich hunting grounds?

  • @jvoodoochild2755
    @jvoodoochild2755 Před měsícem

    The build costs are only lost for upgrade costs, so I like to plot the future of just about everything and outline it with roads for easy placement later on. With 8 logs, I can plot out a lot of buildings, outline them, then tear them down to get back to 8
    Also I like to use all the logs off the ground before chopping down new ones because the Ox will travel to a fallen tree before picking up from the stack on the ground
    2 - Granary highest
    0 - Hunting Lodge very high
    1 - berry house high
    2 - Storehouse medium
    2 - logging low
    1 - firewood very low

    With +200 hours my advice would be to not worry about animals, meat, and hunting camps. Meat yield is so low and gobbled up even with food priority changes. Use it for leather and focus on berries, veggies, bread, and apples over meat. You’ll thank me late game. 😂

      To me, animals are a must for early game, at least year 1, since they cover half the food and all the clothing needs in the beginning.
      Year 2 veggies should be available, and since I am farming bandits until I have enough influence to claim the entire map, I’m trying not to start paying the King’s Tax for sometime.
      That means my one and only development point will usually get Apples and I have the three years growth to make them my late game 4th food type
