    The main problem for ffa ottomans is that ur SUCH a nice guy that u like never want a war with any of ur neighbours cause all of ur power is coming from trading with neighbours. So if u are outstanding too much, they can just declare war on u and this will slow u down by a ton. Also this version of suleiman has little to no early or lategame bonuses to war so all he can do is sit in place and pray to get enomorous tech lead

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  Před 4 měsíci +14

      Honestly, the Grand Bazaar is good enough to carry the Ottoman civilization through the late-game. The extra food and production the extra trade route capacity grants is super relevant for producing units, and the extra gold is especially potent for certain late-game units which you can't prebuild, such as Bombers and Giant Death Robots. Whereas other civs will take several turns after getting the prerequisite technologies before they can get these units in bulk, the Ottoman civ just generates so much extra gold that you can save up for a few turns and buy the units in bulk the moment you unlock them.
      Also, the extra strategic resources granted by the Grand Bazaar can be very relevant in the end-game. In particular, the extra aluminum and uranium are huge, as these resources can be extremely hard to come by sometimes. I had a game once where I was fighting for 2nd place with another civ who was tied with me in techs. As I was playing Suleiman and had 2.5k gold per turn, I simply saved up gold for five turns leading into the Robotics technology and then bought 5 whole Giant Death Robots outright. Even though my opponent unlocked the tech on the same turn as me, they simply got overwhelmed and beaten back. The extra uranium provided by Grand Bazaars also meant that I never ended faced the "insufficient Uranium resource" combat penalty on the GDRs, even as I continued buying more of them each turn.
      In a way, the Ottoman civilization is the late-game powerhouse that a lot of people imagine Germany to be, capable of overwhelming people with sheer productivity and gold.

      @@HersonCiv I feel like this is just a bit too overpowered in CPL community where people tend to easily give up on victory if someones freesim is hyper tempo or if the winning guy is their closest neighbour. I often see the situation where people go like "Uh, guys, hes doing too well, lets just eat the weakest of us together and be grateful with our 2(e.t.c) place" instead of shaking hands to stop the king of the hill. In this situation ottomans seem good cause in earlygame everyone wants to be fed with traderoutes and in the midgame ur already not behind from ur mates. I want to say that civ has a huge period of progression between horsemen rush and GDR push where only having strategic resourses and some amount of extra gold wont solve a problem. But thats just my oppinion ofcourse

    Hi, Im huge fan of your content, but im wondering about something... I know that u are playing on BBG, but me with my friends dont really need that mode, most of us are playing "4fun", but what civ (and possibly tactic if u might) is the best without the bbg? (pls dont say hammurabi) ty in adv (not domination if possible)

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Other than Hammurabi, I'd say that it's probably either Gaul or Maya. These civs have insanely strong simming bonuses which are complimented by powerful defensive combat bonuses. It's extremely hard to disrupt either of them, and it's hard to keep up with them.
      Other than those two civs, it'd have to be any civ which can abuse the overpowered Work Ethic religious belief, which is much stronger in vanilla than in BBG. In BBG, it adds production to shrines and temples equal to their inherent faith generation. In unmodded Gathering Storm, it adds production to a holy site equivalent to its adjacency bonus (this benefits from the card which doubles holy site adjacency). Russia w/ Dance of the Aurora pantheon, Brazil with Sacred Path, Khmer with River Goddess, etc. can all seek to put down massive holy sites and get an enormous amount of free production from the belief. You can then translate all of the extra faith into civilian units using the Monumentality golden age dedication. In BBG, monumentality discounts faith/gold purchases of civilian units by 10%, but in the base game, it's 30%. Also, Pen, Brush & Voice is much weaker in the base game, making civs which can take advantage of monumentality even stronger in relative terms.

    Herson, why do you play Kanuni as usual? I mean Magnus and etc (after watching your latest stream)? Isn't it better to focus on gaining junissaries as fast as you can by building mostly campuses and building ~20 rebuilds? And why no oligarchy? Even with switching to republic after building house in gp?
    And by the way, another Ottoman was in this game and his stats were even a little better without any conquerors, that's quite interesting.

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Magnus + commercial hub spam is still the best way to open the game on Kanuni in free-for-all games. Going for a ton of campuses first in your early cities to get to Jannisaries quicker and going for Oligarchic Legacy for +4 is a popular strategy in 4v4, where you can rely on your teammates to trade you all of the gold and niter you'll need for unit upgrades and it's all worth it so long as you can kill someone on the enemy team. However, in free-for-all games, you'll simply scale way worse in the long-run with an "oligarchy legacy + campuses first" opener than a "republican legacy + commercial hubs first" opener. Furthermore, while Jannisaries are extremely cheap to upgrade units to compared to regular Musketmen, they're still not free - if you open campuses and rush for them ASAP in FFA, you will struggle to afford the upgrade costs, both in terms of gold and niter.
      Here's a perfect example of how a campus opener + Jannisary rush works in a 4v4 setting, where it belongs: czcams.com/video/3w6X6rHI56k/video.html
      You'll notice that he's on negative 30 gold per turn on turn 47. It's completely nonviable in FFA, you need teammates to bankroll the strategy.

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@Mr_Vikingr Germany was a relatively weak player and he missed his first golden age, so I didn't feel as though Oligarchic Legacy would be necessary to make the push succeed (and I was right).
      Also, more amenities are never a bad thing when you're conquering another civ. I was on 17 cities by turn 76 in that game - it comes as no surprise that, even with republican legacy, I was still not reaching +5 amenities in every city (I was in the process of setting up zoos & aquariums to fix this when the game got scrapped).
      The +1 housing in every city from republican legacy is also notably valuable. It's not as good as the +1 amenity component, but it shouldn't be overlooked.

      @@Mr_Vikingr In general, yes. However, in the rare cases where the map is extremely water-heavy, such as Tilted Axis, I'd recommend going Oligarchic legacy even in FFA. Naval melee units benefit from it as well, and unlike land melee units, they're actually relevant for the entire game.

      @HersonCiv  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yeah, for sure. Hungary's definitely one of the most interesting war civs in the game, and is actually one of my most played civs overall in CPL. I simply haven't gotten many opportunities to play it since I started streaming a few months ago, so I don't have good enough footage to make a spotlight on them.
      I've actually won some games on Hungary recently, such as the one featured in my video "The new meta taking over Civ 6 multiplayer", but I didn't get an opportunity to show off the power of a levy push in that game. If I do make a Hungary spotlight, it'd have to be based around a game where I make the most of their bonuses towards levying. Ideally in FFA, you push with levied muskets and black armies initially, rush for the military science technology, and then upgrade into Huszárs and levied Line Infantry to finish off your target.

      @@HersonCiv dude, I respect you so much, really, you are the best on CZcams, I've waited and searched so much for anyone making such videos about BBG. Thank you!
      Maybe you can write several hints / advices for Hungary? I mean the difference between traditional opening and Hungary.
      I usually fight only when I get huszars, in your opinion it's too late?

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@Mr_Vikingr Sure, I can give some general Hungary advice.
      First off, you generally just run a standard Magnus + Commercial Hub opener. You gain 50% extra production towards districts and buildings built across a river from the city center, so you gain a ton of extra tempo from the extra prod towards your commercial hubs and markets. You also want to make sure your government plaza is across a river from the city center, as gov plaza buildings are expensive. It'll let you finish your ancestral hall/audience chamber faster, and will let you rush out your Foreign Ministry cheaply later on.
      Generally, my preferred strategy on Hungary in terms of war is to first rush for Monarchy so I can get the Foreign Ministry building for cheaper levies and +4 combat strength on levied units. Then, I project out a great general that can buff renaissance era units and push with some levied musketmen. They have +3 from Hungary bonus, +4 from foreign ministry, and +5 from a great general, and between the extra 1 movement Hungary gets on levies and the 1 movement granted by the general, they'll have 4 movement points. This allows them to steamroll unprepared players pretty quickly.
      Even if the target rapidly prepares a defense, you can still probably blitz down 2-3 cities with just muskets. Then, you upgrade to Line Infantry and add in some Huszars to finish them off. The Musketman push earlier should've softened up their stats enough that they won't have any industrial era units of their own to help defend, so it should be easy.
      One of the best things about Hungary is that you can push pretty much anyone on the map if they're near a city state you can levy, and the levies and upgrades are so cheap that it requires minimal investment. Even if none of your neighbors are weak, if you see someone who is struggling on the complete opposite side of the map and can reach them with a city state levy, you can go for them. If two players have been irrel warring since turn 30 and have fallen behind, no matter where they are on the map, Hungary can probably reach them with a levy to clean them up w/ Muskets or Line Infantry.

      @@HersonCiv by the way, is it needed to take oligarchy legacy and then switch to republic?

    • @HersonCiv
      @HersonCiv  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @ingr I usually don't, to be honest. Republican Legacy is too good of a card to pass up, and the +4 combat strength from oligarchic legacy is rarely the difference between a push failing or succeeding.
      I would say that Oligarchic Legacy is probably better in Teamers than in Free-for-all, as in teamers you're likely to be using levies to grief the enemy team repeatedly over the course of the game, instead of just using them for a single strong mid-game push. Players are also more likely to be prepared for you in teamers, so the margins of victory are often much tighter.
