It's time to explore Britain by Narrowboat. After a year of watching narrowboat Silver Fox take shape, from the base plate to fully fitted narrowboat, it's time to take her by lorry from Bickerstaffe Boats to St Mary's Marina in Rufford for launch day.
We're launching her by crane into the marina, then sailing her along the Rufford Branch onto the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, heading for Salthouse Dock in Liverpool.

Im from runcorn if you know of it, a small town an the canal system is one of the nicest things about it an it has a interesting history when the bridge water use to connect on to the Manchester ship canal early 20th century i think, an we have a mile long tunnel on another canal, ive always wanted my own boat i lv walking along the canal in winter an smelling the wood burning stoves, its just beautiful all year round on the canal

There is nothing like the first time a boat touches the water, like finally getting to its natural environment. Beautiful boat and thanks for taking us along the journey from flat steel plates to a beautiful boat!

Watching that base plate touch the water for the first time made me a bit misty-eyed. It reminded me of the day they pulled my own boat from the trailer with a crane and set it into the water at Safe Harbour Marina in Key West, Florida and I began my own live-aboard adventure. Sadly, I'm no longer living on a boat but I will again someday. These videos are striking that nautical chord in me. Congratulations! (now long-overdue). Also, the drone footage is incredible. Now, back to my binge-watching!

A house move, a boat launch, and a marathon all in one week!? I don’t know how anyone could *not* melt down after all that! Loved the GoPro footage of the truck transport and the aerial footage of the crane. And the ducklings and heron (crane?), too! Great video, so exciting to watch the origin story :)

Two impressions on the launch....I kept waiting for one of the chains/straps to snap and the Silver Fox go down into the water with a loud slap. The second impression was like a birth. Instead of coming out of the water, it was going in! Haha. Very touching! Loved it lads!

Not a dry eye here guys . Im a sailor for over 35 yrs and know the attachment you get to a boat after a while , they have their own personalities . Aww guys. Just seen this and I nearly cried when she touched the water. Had a cruiser on the Lancaster Canal for four years and now live in France, so I know how tough it can be to sell up and move on to a new life. Enjoy her.

🇨🇦Wow! That took some serious skill by the fork lift driver to bring the Silver Fox out of the yard and on to the truck. As well as the truck driver, he had to drive her down the road then back her up on to the crane platform! I would have worried I would get scratches or bangs on it! When the crane operator had to lift her up and turn the silver fox onto the water! With just two men holding the guide ropes, imagine if they slipped!! My heart was in my throat watching!! 🤦♀️. All of those drivers were impressive with their skills.

Just watched this video and it reminded me of when Pete and I launched my 1979 45’ Colecraft ‘Daphné’ after 9 years renovating her...9 YEARS! I turned her from an old, battered hire boat into something long, sleek and very beautiful. Unfortunately we had to let her go as we adopted 2 kids but seeing your videos brings it all back! I’m a subscriber and love you both...talk about informative!

BTW, Colin, one of the names (and the one I like) for that type of hat (your new hat) here in the US is "Go To Hell Hat". I had a leather one that I wore driving for nearly two decades. I wore it until it completely wore out. I loved it and have never found another just exactly like it. I think you look great in yours.

Plus the resent baby royal news. Ill never get to England.. but the adventure through ur experiences is more realistic then if i could be there to see it first had. I teared up a couple of times ... when the Silver Fox left the boat builder and again when she was set in the water. It was like watching hopes and dreams, including mine--who knows where mine came from? In some ways I'm not surprised anxiety filled the space after so many major events (of course talking about me because that's often what happens after huge excitement). But ups and downs are normal and I love to hear you saying that because it's so true. It's just life and some people swing more between extremes than others; it's your normal and you just live with it. Love you muchly. :)

I know this is a year late but I cried when I watched the launch. And even though I knew everything went okay I was holding my breath. She’s a beautiful boat. My mum dad and I try to go on a canal holiday every year if we can. I’d love to live the canal life. Not only that Colin, you’re an inspiration to me on my own mental health journey. Thank you.

Started watching these from the beginning about a week ago, they are the most informative, inspirational, heart warming and on occasions the most emotional videos I have seen in a very long time. Also quite amusing at times! but the moment I saw 'Silver Fox' enter the water for the first time I had tears welling up in my eyes. @@FoxesAfloat I lived on a narrowboat for a year and bit 20 years ago when I still lived in London - I was 22 and had an amazing time. I 've never lost the love of boats and nowadays I still sail, now on the Great Lakes in Canada. There will always be something to fix, there will always be something that needs attention. Don't let the hunt for perfection distract you from the wonders you'll experience living on the water. This coming summer I'll be teaching my kids how to handle a 420.

I was in absolute awe when watching Silver Fox being loaded into the water and felt as if I was there amongst you. Seeing Silver Fox in the aero view was amazing and looks extremely sleek!

Congratulations on your new narrowboat. What a wonderful name to choose.
When I lived in Liverpool, my Mum & Dad had a Callumcraft 22' moored at Runcorn, This was also named Silver Fox.
When we moved to Leicester in 1977 the boat came with us and is moored at Debdale Wharf near Foxton Locks on the Leicester Arm of the Grand Union Canal.
I hope that you have many happy hours cruising the canals of the UK.
