Hi from the north west corner of washington state. I'm a new to vewing your vlog and im injoying your layed back travels, Im not unhappy you didnt get a house in the country and we probably woundnt have herd of Ben and Emily and the hairy Alen. Your wheather is very much like ours it locks you in and you have to us your imagination to escape, Im doing the same with a motorhome. Safe and fun travels.
I don't know if a toaster is expensive to run off grid, but I put waffles in the toaster 1 & a half times, then they're done. Cheaper than putting them in the oven. Haven't tried them in the air fryer, but I would have thought they would still be cheaper done in the toaster x
That’s near me…. I live over the hill near the rugby club in a village called tatenhill. Next time you are this way go to the bridge inn near the mooring you had. The food is lovely (Italian). X
Hello You Three - greetings from Poland I'm so very sorry about the broken engine mounting. I think if the damage had been caused when you got that sacking wrapped round the propeller, you would have heard to mounting go. On the video, it didn't look like a relatively new break. I think it's been there for a long time. I would be more than happy to make a contribution towards the cost - 1000GBP is a lot of money to find. Loved your "naughty dinner", new overalls (James Bond action change!) and super clean floor plate. Good Luck with the record issue too. A wonderful video. Full of your usual sunshine, fun and laughter and Alan of course. Stay safe please.
Hello Michael, thank you for your lovely comment as always :) We're trying to figure it out but i looked at some photos of the engine bay not long before the sack incident and it was fine so i think maybe in moment of mayhem as the sack got caught it did happen then! Thats very kind of you to offer to help, please don't feel you have to but if you would like we do have a buy me a coffee account www.buymeacoffee.com/benandemily . Yes the overalls are brilliant! and only £7 each! We couldn't not get them, even if they are HUGE on Emily 😄 So happy your'e enjoying our videos. Take care and all the best, Ben, Emily and Alan
Hello, Question for your next Q&A. How do you juggle the boat and the van? Watching your episodes you seem to moor up and like magic your van turns up. 😅 Much love 😊
Hi, it was good to see you this morning walking along the towpath Ben you looked so surprised when we mentioned your vlogs, and how we really enjoy them looking forward to many more. (NB Bear Necessities)
Hi Ben & Emily, If you won't to stop rainwater getting into your engine bay, make a small frame to rase the cover above the floor, so that water will run past & out though drain holes at the stern. The other way to keep out rainwater, is to buy a small 12 volt savage pump fitted with a micro-switch, operated by a float. this is how boats at sea keep the water out. Have a great day. Thanks.
I'm a former mechanic (and have a garage full of related gear to go with) and I'm always amazed at the damage you can sustain from sudden shock loads. Surprised it went for the bracket and not the mount mind. Ah well best off knowing than not...
Put another engine support leg on there, or weld up the old one. A good welder will be able to reclaim that engine leg. Check that the engine mount rubbers still have enough life in them. Keep oil away from them. Regularly scrub them with detergent, and if diesel drips on them (or oil), clean it off immediately.
Hello again from the foothills of Mt Rainer, Washington state. Always enjoy the updates on your vlog ❤️ Well hopefully you will be able to get your engine issues sorted and not cost you to much 🤞as always sending out a ton of love and positive thoughts and prayers dear family 🙏❤️💐
Guys, you could just mix baking soda and vinegar.... paint it onto the plate leave it for 5 or 10 minutes and then wipe it off with the scouring side of a washing up sponge. PS this works on pretty much any hard surface. We use it all the time to clean the UPVC of old grime on houses we renovate.
because after a while of scratching the follicles of hair on the cat start to hurt cause they are swished in the wrong direction to the lay of the hair - like if you've ever had a hat on for too long and it has swished some hair in the wrong direction...
It was the cost for the gearbox work and parts as well, and no we cant weld or have the tools or know how required to do that job. And it didn't cost that much in the end any way 😊
,LOVE the whole package! I just smile my face off with pure peace and enjoyment of both the vlog, and the wonderful music. SO glad I found you two. ..and ALAN.
When your Album gets to number 1 you can buy a new Boat ! Hope it all gets sorted out soon and you can then look forward to years of Laid-back crusing . The overalls will keep you warm in the winter.
That engine mount breaking and engine dropping might be putting pressure on the drive plate making the noise because it’s out of alignment. That engine mount leg looks a bit on the underengineered side. I’d get it welded up and reinforced.
Hi hope all goes well with the album as it should 🎉. When in business I had a couple of pickups with aluminium and they came up great with traffic film remover. The channels on your rear deck look like drains that drain overboard via flexible pipe we’re always cleaning ours leaves and dog hairs. Keep vlogging 👍👍
While your engines out it's a great time to use some rustzilla Rust hardener and repaint your engine compartment. And possibly the motor too. Good luck
Sorry to say this, but that engine mount would have been a pretty easy fix for an engineer (wink wink). I suspect that sack getting wrapped around the prop could have done that because even though your engine is only small, it will still have a significant amount of torque when the prop got stopped dead. I've seen small diesel engines shred flexi couplings when the prop hit something solid in the canal. Diesel engines have very heavy flywheels with a lot of momentum, which can be enough to shear propshafts or snap propeller blades clean off!
Emily - this is a comment not directly about your vlog, but about your Etsy on-line shop. You have just sent me two little peas in a pod (for my partner obviously) and a whole family of peas in their pod as well (this for my daughter, her partner and her children). They are lovely and I know that both my partner and my daughter, both daft as brushes, will be delighted with their presents too. So thank you - Tim
Dang it! So sorry to hear about the motor troubles. Hope you all will be abundantly blessed with lots o’ cash 💰 to help with the issues. Thanks again for sharing your lives, The Mister & I look forward to every episode. Good luck this week with your adventures 🍀💕
Thanks so much! Yeah it was rubbish news but its all fixed and sorted now :) Thanks so much for continuing to follow along with our videos :) So happy to hear you guys look forward to watching them 😊 x
Hi guys , I think you need to keep those metal channels under your rear deck boards clear of crud , when it rains heavily it is stopping the water draining away.
Take care, make sure you are both eating properly, winter is on the way, keep fit and well. Love your vlogs. Your such a wonderful couple. Good luck with the album. If you can buy some chemical metal, this way if you have metal break, you can do a temporary fix. Saying that it lasted on our Land rover step for 3 year's lol, and is still going now. 11 years on. Take care and Blessings XXX
Hi guys. Love watching your channel, it's magic. My cruiser stern didn't have any edging around the flooring support channels and after a tip I received, tried using hosepipe cut down the middle all along the length and then cut to size. This didn't work as all the hosepipe I could find was plastic lined and made cutting it much to much hard work. I tried this - Metal House Extra Large black rubber car edge protective trim 14mm x 16mm from amazon (seems I can't leave links in comments) and it does a great job sealing against the rain however it does leak a little but you need to clean out the channels and overflow holes regularly. It also aids in engine sound deadening. I'm still catching up on your vlogs and look forward to every one.
Ouch, but look at the repairs as an investment and then it doesn't hurt so much! Good news is that if you had continued cruising, you would most probably have damaged the bearings in the gearbox, which would have been several more hundreds of pounds. Enjoy Burton, the mixture of beer and marmite in the air is quite unique!
I found you after watching van life videos - CZcams’s algorithm actually worked! Anyway, we’re not in the market to live nomadically, but our lives are now no longer rat race, so I find your adventures such a joy to watch. I laughed out loud at what you said about someone collecting their own hair in the sack that fouled up your propellor! That concept would make a great strand for a novel…
Hi. Love your vlogs. As I’m from Ireland I thought you’d like to hear the proper and correct pronunciation of your boat’s name. ? It’s , ( the simple way ) Roe ( or Row as in row the boat ) Roe Sheen Dove. Roisin is Irish for Rose, and Dubh is Black in Irish. Get that great name on your boat. Cheers. Don.
I don`t know if it true. My friend has a boat at Grimsby and he tells me things that go on there. He said one person wanted an engine out a boat so he undid it and roped it to a bridge and waited for the tide to go out.
I'm guessing the rubber under your deck is used to dampen sound vibration not to keep water out, and increasing water tracking into your engine bay. You need a small lip in the underside of your deck edges so the water will drop down into the gutters. I hope you understand what I mean. ( Water can not run uphill).
Your life right now, and mine, has the makings of a country and western song..sorta like " if I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all". Keep your chin up and carry on. That's my advice for me....
Howdy B & E!! Thank God it wasn't any worst! It's like owning a house, things will eventually. It's just a nasty surprise when they do. May all good cosmic energy be poured upon you both!!!!
Going back to your Q&A video when asked what is the worst thing about boat life? Well, I’m a boater and this is by far the worst thing! Unexpected, un-budgeted, expensive repairs. It’s a real bummer. Although I was managing my day to day expenses on my occupational pension it is the unexpected repairs that made me go back to work and get some cash behind me for a rainy day. I hope all is well for you and your engine issues get sorted quickly. Very good luck.
Hope your all sorted with the broken mount now...always something with a boat either small or big. .. Loving the overalls bargain... Hash brown waffles yum I'm off to find some... Hugs to Alan.. And you two of course 🙏
Trying to keep water in or out is a nightmare.lve just done a test run on a 1/16 scale canal lock /basin water feature and despite being meticulous the gates leak but in all the right places ! Engines - Hmmm a necessary evil . Unfortunately you need a workshop for that one ,Ouch !😱
...are you able to repair all things on your boat! and are you sure thats before you going on your jurney ? beware, this is seamanship. (excuse ma timber rotten spelling, i m from saxonia ..) ;-)
Bad news about the engine mounts guys, you never know what’s around the bend I guess. I can see you’re not letting it get to you which is great to see, keep them coming and stay strong!
Hiya, sorry to hear about your engine mount, that sux! Glad you able to get it sorted. Great video as always..loved the photo shoot 😄👍🏼 and again love your sounds Ben, so good. Allen looked like and owl with that bit of fluff stuck to her lip.. My cats do the same, love the tiggles & strokes, then suddenly it's enough.. i read somewhere it's because their fur gets static, the minute that happens they want us to stop...makes sense 😄 Anyway Njoy the festival, hope ya up an running soon. Take Care, see you on the next one 🌼🌿
I would use the opportunity to check and maybe replace the silent blocks under the engine mountings. They're not that expensive, a lot cheaper than the labour cost for lifting the engine and fixing the broken mounting I would say. I would also check the prop shaft. Vibrations and/or a misaligned engine can wear out the prop shaft. And that can cause water coming in through the propeller shaft. Could be cheaper to do now than to spend another grant next year. But check with the mechanics. Their advice is worth more than my very distant opinion ;-)
Just discovered you guys and I’m already in love with Alan, that’s one happy cat!! - love the peace and tranquility of your videos and life style even in times of drama..
First it was 😮 but then that’s canal life I guess…in the slow lane, yeah! Hey Benny, a musical question…who are you or have been influenced by? 🙂 and just letting you know I’ll be back in the UK in a couple of weeks; going to view some narrowboats 😉
It's not that a big job to replace the engine mounts been doing them for years....just weld the bracket......its the springs that rattle in the drive plate when not under load..some times last for years with no issues
That guy that saved your plant has some special ninja skills, I defo would of nose dived straight in if I'd of tried that 🤣 as for engine problems they're surmountable (get what I did there 🤣) hope it goes okay for you x
Eeeeshk! Hope all goes well! Our engine mounts aren't broken (touch wood) but we have been advised it's time to replace so we are preparing to get that job done 😬 we hadn't realised what a big job it would be till the guy told us x
All fixed now and they managed to fix it rather than replace, but it would be a good job worth doing for sure if they've advised you to do it :) Good luck guys!
7:29 future home of the stage? 😁 Sorry to hear of the mount breakage. Think of it this way- they will give you all new, and she will be back to her quiet self.
Ben & Emily - That sounds so expensive. Big bills like that, which you've not planned for, can be really worrying can't they? Scary. You both look quite concerned too, with good reason, but at the same time you are both very up beat and positive. A lessen to us all. My advice is - get yourself off to your festival and let your dad cat sit. While Alan manages things with the boatyard - Tim
Thanks Tim, yes all is good in the end, we are sort of mentally prepared for the unexpected 😊 Festival was good and we get the engine sorted in the upcoming videos ..
A broken motor mount is a VERY small thing to fix. $20 quid at most and 15 minutes work with a standard socket set. Nothing more than a small jack is needed to support the motor while you remove the bolts and install the new part. You're being ripped off in a MAJOR way.
Hi David, thanks for your concern, the problem was that they don't make the same legs anymore and they thought we would need to replace them with new ones all round which is a big job. Also the price included the removal and fixing of the drive plate. Anyway all is explained in this week's episode out on Saturday 🙂
@@BenandEmily Still too much. And YES! they do still make replacement motor mounts. Did they try to explain a wildly generic item as if it was a made to measure suit? Nobody likes to hear that they were taken advantage of, but you were. I am frequently in the UK and have been back and forth from the states for the last 20 years. I know exactly how much things should cost.
@David Briggs Thanks David, it's ok :) We don't feel we were taken advantage of. So as i mentioned they don't make the mounts for our engine anymore, it's explained in next week's episode 😀 👍 Try not to worry too much 😊
Oh don't worry about us, the portion sizes I dish out for us are rather hefty, I think we must burn off the calories with all the boat and rope exercise we do! 😉Thanks for caring though 😊 ♥️ Benny x
Why don't you try taking a leaf out of Heidi's ( narrowboat pirate) and buy disposable trainer mats in the engine bay as this would catch all the leakage? Luvin ur blogs and follow other narrow boaters on their vlogs
Hope boat gets sorted and your on your travels. Are least you didn't carry on for things to get worse. I thought that great bag of hair might have been an old horse hair mattress from the victorian days 🤣Enjoy your festival, Benny good look with the record launch.
The engine hatch may continue to leak with that seal by capillary action. You might find a better style of seal by looking up seals or weather seals on the internet.
@@BenandEmily YER IM GOOD AT GNOSIL MOVING TO MOZZ I BE LOOKING AROUND BEFORE I SET OFF LOLOL BE SAFE YOU TO KEEP UP THE GOOD VLOGS PS SOEEY ABOUT THE CAPS MIGRAINE
Hiya Ben and Emily. so question, Are you going to record a few tunes that might be obtainable through you, or have you not got that fare yet. If you have let me know I am on watts-app and can listen to a couple of tracks. Make sure you buy some Barrier cream for protection on your hands when in your engine. Yake care, interesting show. John in New Zealand Kaiora mi tatou.
Sorry to hear about the engine woes. Was it not possible to weld the broken strut? Were the rubbers of the mounts also gone? (They do have a limited life and they then allow more engine viabration through making it a louder ride. That grey tube-like stuff does well for insulating pipes, but although it is a good shape you would find it is not up to the job of being a seal. It would cut through very quickly. The aluuminium cleaning job worked well. I was susprised how cheap the overalls were - 7 quid only? Great deal. I've been working in the Far East for years - where so many textiles are made, yet we can't get overalls for that price. Also love the idea of a nut and bolt pick and mix.
Thanks yeah, it was bad news but all fixed now :) They did end up welding it so it wasn't quite such a massive job! Yes think the rubber bits were fine. Yes definitely not the right tube! Thanks for watching :D

Hello, Question for your next Q&A. How do you juggle the boat and the van? Watching your episodes you seem to moor up and like magic your van turns up. 😅 Much love 😊
Heavy duty buffer and tube of aluminium polish
In one of first videos on your channel, you can see the mount has a crack. It may not have broken completely through but it is visibly cracked.

I'm guessing the rubber under your deck is used to dampen sound vibration not to keep water out, and increasing water tracking into your engine bay. You need a small lip in the underside of your deck edges so the water will drop down into the gutters. I hope you understand what I mean. ( Water can not run uphill).
Thought the same. You're not likely to stop it coming in, easier to collect it and/or redirect it.
Thats a very good point! Thanks :)
Your life right now, and mine, has the makings of a country and western song..sorta like " if I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all". Keep your chin up and carry on. That's my advice for me....
Thanks Marjorie 😊♥️
i was there two years ago and non of that was there all filds thay had done the road and the school and a few houses
Howdy B & E!! Thank God it wasn't any worst! It's like owning a house, things will eventually. It's just a nasty surprise when they do. May all good cosmic energy be poured upon you both!!!!
Aww thank you! Yes we were expecting things to break and such, so just took it in our stride after the initial surprise 😊
Thank s Paul, yes good point there, it's the first time it's happened to us!
Wishing you the best of luck on your engine service. Better to know now than latter.
Thanks Jim 😊
Hope your all sorted with the broken mount now...always something with a boat either small or big. .. Loving the overalls bargain... Hash brown waffles yum I'm off to find some... Hugs to Alan.. And you two of course 🙏
Thanks Janet 😊
Ahh bummer!! Hope all is sorted soon for you. Loved the last bit with Allen watching herself 😂
Thank you! I know she is so funny isn'y she...
Thanks Ed! 😊
I wondered where my lifetime bag of hair had gone! 😉 😂 Hope you guys get it sorted
Hahah yep there it is!
Can't believe that those Techs just didn't weld that broken mount!!!
That's what they did 🙂
Hiya, sorry to hear about your engine mount, that sux! Glad you able to get it sorted. Great video as always..loved the photo shoot 😄👍🏼 and again love your sounds Ben, so good. Allen looked like and owl with that bit of fluff stuck to her lip.. My cats do the same, love the tiggles & strokes, then suddenly it's enough.. i read somewhere it's because their fur gets static, the minute that happens they want us to stop...makes sense 😄
Anyway Njoy the festival, hope ya up an running soon. Take Care, see you on the next one 🌼🌿
Thanks Che, yes Alan can be a bit nippy, but more in a playful way 😊 Hope you are having a great week 😊♥️
Yes they had a good look and helped sort it out as you will see in our upcoming videos.. Thank you 😊
Just discovered you guys and I’m already in love with Alan, that’s one happy cat!! - love the peace and tranquility of your videos and life style even in times of drama..
Thanks so much for your lovely comment Richard! :)
Hope it gets fixed soon 🤞🏻
First it was 😮 but then that’s canal life I guess…in the slow lane, yeah! Hey Benny, a musical question…who are you or have been influenced by? 🙂 and just letting you know I’ll be back in the UK in a couple of weeks; going to view some narrowboats 😉
I pray all goes well. Enjoy the festival
Thank you 😊 It does go well as you will see in our upcoming videos.
It's not that a big job to replace the engine mounts been doing them for years....just weld the bracket......its the springs that rattle in the drive plate when not under load..some times last for years with no issues
I wish you all the very best much love love the vids✌️✌️✌️❤️❤️
That guy that saved your plant has some special ninja skills, I defo would of nose dived straight in if I'd of tried that 🤣 as for engine problems they're surmountable (get what I did there 🤣) hope it goes okay for you x
haha i know! I couldn't believe he did that just for my plant! so nice :) hahah i see what you did there 😄
Sorry to hear of the mount breakage. Think of it this way- they will give you all new, and she will be back to her quiet self.
Oh ho could well be! Yes we definitely come out with a quieter engine!
@@BenandEmily 😁👍
Ben & Emily - That sounds so expensive. Big bills like that, which you've not planned for, can be really worrying can't they? Scary. You both look quite concerned too, with good reason, but at the same time you are both very up beat and positive. A lessen to us all. My advice is - get yourself off to your festival and let your dad cat sit. While Alan manages things with the boatyard - Tim
Thanks Tim, yes all is good in the end, we are sort of mentally prepared for the unexpected 😊 Festival was good and we get the engine sorted in the upcoming videos ..
Congratulations on your album Benny. I’m enjoying your music. I checked out your Etsy page. Such cute little veggies.
Thank you so much! 🤩
So as i mentioned they don't make the mounts for our engine anymore, it's explained in next week's episode 😀 👍 Try not to worry too much 😊
I'm not sure you guys are eating enough ? That broken support could be welded....the hosepipe in corner needs replacing as do the clips...
Lets Support them and buy Bennys Bingo Harry record so they can stock up on crunchy chickpeas and get the motor rolling
Thank you! Yes I'm so glad they spotted it, it seems we came a long way with a cracked mount...
I wonder if may of been that clouted you boat coming out the tunnal it knock loads down and ripped your cover the knock may of did that
The engine hatch may continue to leak with that seal by capillary action. You might find a better style of seal by looking up seals or weather seals on the internet.
Thanks Glyn :)
You guys are so good! Love that you do all the work yourselves ☺️
Cats nipping you is their way to show their love. A bite is different.
another great vlog and i only just recovered from ya making me jump this mo
Thanks Drew! hehe, so sorry, it was probably a bad time to say hi as you were just about to go under that bridge too! Hope travels are going well :)
@@BenandEmily YER IM GOOD AT GNOSIL MOVING TO MOZZ I BE LOOKING AROUND BEFORE I SET OFF LOLOL BE SAFE YOU TO KEEP UP THE GOOD VLOGS PS SOEEY ABOUT THE CAPS MIGRAINE
@@drewmxx3969 Hope the migraine goes soon!! Prob see you today then :)
You need a bilge pump in the engine bay.
We have one, in a bucket for the prop.
Hi! If you look in the description there is a link to my music, some of the newer songs aren't online yet but I'm putting them out soon. 😊❤️
@@BenandEmily Thank you for vlogging! Watching is the easy bit. Vlogging is where the work is involved.
