  • Tony Mundine 20-2-0 159 lbs vs Bennie Briscoe 34-3-0 160 lbs
Location: Palais des Sports, Paris, Paris, France
Briscoe wins by KO at 2:20 in round 5 of 10
    Referee: Pierre Talayrac
Mundine got off to a fast start. His right crosses, left hooks and jabs had him on top. Briscoe was always prepared to take a couple of blows in order to land a punch. Briscoe behind on points caught Mundine with a right on the jaw and it was obvious to all that the Australian had been hurt. A barrage of punches set Mundinee up on the ropes and vicious body blows sent the Australian down on one knee. Referee Paul Tallyrach took up the count but few thought that this was the end. But it was. Mundine was counted out as he tried to rise from the canvas. The end was disappointing for Mundine looked far the defeated man as he took the count. Reported by The Ring's Eurpoean correspondent Jack A. Tree.

Mundine didn't need a trainer to chuck the towel in. He was quite capable of doing that himself and did so on numerous occasions.

Sadly correct. I say sad because Tony was a natural, had so much ability in the ring. Just wasn't matched by his ability to dig against the best fighters.

The fight record for Mundine isn't correct, his record before he met Briscoe was 44 - 2 - 1. Tony was disappointing after promising so much, probably one of the most gifted Australian fighters. He had the ability to beat everyone but just couldn't hack it when the going got really hard, as depicted here.

Briscoe was an ANIMAL! Tony stayed down until the count reached “ten” because he’d had enough of this Philadelphia warrior!!

WOW, Tony was giving Bernie a complete world class boxing lesson until their last round.
His evasion skills, ring craft were very impressive.

If they had a super middleweight class back then, this wouldve been perfect for Mr Mundine. He had to boil off too much weight,as you can see in the size difference. However Bennie Briscoe was Baaaaddd

Would have won that fight if he kept his hands up 😉

Nobody ever taught him how to clinch when he was hurt. It used to drive me insane.
