I absolutely LOVE korean food, spicy or not ( I am Indian so I can handle spice quite well). Maangchi has always been my go to channel for recipes. But I have recently turned vegetarian, trying to go vegan. I love that Maangchi always gives us vegetarian alternatives to dishes where it's possible. Can't wait to make this!
Edit: i have turned vegan (been a year now). I still made this and substituted the egg white by keeping a bit of the water when draining the starch (about a tablespoon worth) and adding in 1-2 teaspoons of plain white flour for binding. Gave the exact same results and now you have a completely vegan recipe!

Oh.. this is halal version of tangsuyuk. I can't eat tangsuyuk, but now probably I am gonna cook this tangsu. Thank you maangchi for veggie option recipe.
For the meat version you can substitute with chicken thigh or lamb
Tangsuyuk i guess can use chicken too. Maybe this is for vegan version

This woman is always like a breath a fresh air. Always consistently good, wholesome content here. 🍄 Always be careful with a very sharp and new knife with round objects. I took pad of my finger off trying to cut a honeybell tangelo with my brand new knife. My finger will never be the same. This lady definitely looks like she's got good knife skills. I will stick to my dull knives for round, rolly objects!
Dull knives are actually one of the biggest kitchen dangers, ask any working chef. A sharp knife is actually the safest option. Just take your time, and I cannot stress enough the importance of learning proper knife handling skills. You’ll do far more damage to yourself working with a dull knife. That’s one thing my chef friends taught me a long time ago. I implore everyone to use what works for you, BUT, dull knives are much more dangerous than people think. I’m by no means a professional, just someone who spent time around chefs in my early 20s. Just want to educate the masses, and help keep others safe in the kitchen 💕.
@@ladystardust9707 Trust me, I am not using that sharp knife on anything round or wobbly ever again after cutting the entire pad of my finger off. My duller serated knife has never failed or cut me. So sharp knives definitely can be dangerous. It was actually a minneola that I was trying to cut and the tip of the knife hit the stem, which fell out and the knife slid and cut my finger pad off. Now I have a disfigured finger for the rest of my life. I still use the sharp knife but only on things where I know it is not going to slide on me and never with my fingers anywhere near the blade. That thing is a menace!

@@lockergr The trick to cutting round things is to cut off a small portion on one of the ends, so the item in question sits flat 😁.
@@ladystardust9707 Yeah, but you wouldn't do that when you're cutting something like a Minneola. I've done that with something like an acorn squash.

I'm not a vegetarian by any stretch but this looks wonderful. The hard corn starch that you made reminds me of something I would do as a child. I would take some corn starch and mix in a very very small amount of water, which would make a fluid that became hard when you put pressure on it. My older brother called it "ooblek" and it's an instant hit with the kids I babysit too.

Thank you so much. You are a miracle chef. Like your vegetarian recipes. In India most vegetarians don't eat eggs and mushrooms. They only eat food grains,pulses, lentils, vegetables and fruits and milk products like curd butter ghee and cheese. I substituted potatoes instead of mushroom and used chickpea flour for coating them for frying. Thank you it turned out delicious. Hope you make more Korean vegetarian recipes for us. ❤️

i'm allergic to egg so i was thinking that I might be able to leave a tablespoon of the water in the starch and use a teaspoon and half of ground flax instead of the egg white. And then make the usual vegetarian substitutes for the fermented shrimp and oyster sauce.
