    Dude... I have to say, these recent interviews you've been doing, no disrespect at all in saying this... they're far more interesting and valuable to the sport of hockey than even your lessons were. Mind you, your lessons were awesome, but this behind the scenes stuff tells stories that will likely go unheard if they are not documented. They tell of the sport's heritage. They show the face of the people who have helped progressed the sport in its wings.
    I STRONGLY urge you to keep this up. Absolutely amazing!

      No disrespect taken at all. I can’t honestly explain how passionately I feel about capturing stories like this. You hit the nail on the head! If we don’t share them, maybe no one else will. I’m so happy that we got to meet Mr Tiitola and learn/share just some of his incredible stories. Thank you for the comment, you have no idea how much it means

      @@HockeyTutorialOfficial You're absolutely welcome. I edited my original post to read a bit more smoothly, but I also wanted to mention (since you ask Mr. Tiitola whether Titan will ever make a comeback) that Total Hockey (U.S. hockey equipment retailer) put out a house stick a few years ago with the name Titan on it (or it may have been Pure Hockey, which recently bought Total Hockey out).
      Of course, the only thing similar between the old stick and the one was the name on the shaft. Although... I did pick up a few of them on deep discount ($30 each!!!) and they are rather fantastic. So maybe there's something to the just the name after all... LOL

    This was great to watch! I used Titan sticks when I played hockey as a kid in the 70's and early 80's.They were known as 'War Clubs' because they were so strong and would last much longer than Koho sticks.The other brand I used was Christian sticks and they were a close second to the Titans.

  • @cjentertainmentcanada8623

    It's very funny to hear him say that the plastic runner insert makes the Titan a good street hockey stick, because when I played ice hockey and street hockey in the 1980's and 1990's as a young kid in Canada, I quickly realized that Titan hockey sticks would last a long time when playing street hockey, therefore when I would outgrow a Titan stick playing ice hockey, the stick would be used as a street hockey stick!

    Antti-Jussi Tiitola and Titan were ahead of their time, I remember a stick called the Titan Turbo, an all fiberglass stick in the mid 80's. I think Mike Bossy may have used one.

    • @lassehovde
      @lassehovde Před 3 měsíci

      Titan Turbo had a foam and wooden core. The bladeconstruction was like Titan TPM. Wood, plastic frame and fiberglass lamination, but without the birch veneer at the forehand. Shaft had foam core with laminated wood strips at both the ''narrow sides'' The first 100% composite stick was made by Norwegian skimanufacturer Madshus sold under the name JOFA Black-Shot. When Karhu-Titan bought JOFA it was a discussion about if Madshus should continue producing Black-Shot for Karhu-Titan and they made samples. The problem was that Karhu was also a skiproducer and Madshus used similar technology for their ski and stickproduction. Madshus were sceptical to let Karhu-Titan know to much about their know-how. Norwegian and Finnish language are completely different, so they could speak Swedish or English during discussions. During a meeting (I was told by the RD manager) : ''When the Finns started to speak Finnish together the meeting was over'' Madshus produced ca 80-100.000 sticks from 1983 to ca 1986-87. Around 10 years later they made composite shafts sold under K2 brand, wich was the owner of Madshus at that time. They also produced shafts with Sher-Wood logo, which Patrice Brisebois used. Madshus still use the 50 year old carousel press used for skis, shafts and the WORLDS FIRST ONE-PIECE HOCKEY STICK. czcams.com/video/nK1Y0gEVWLo/video.htmlsi=86H6PEM9cOzn3_IA&t=104

    I have so much in common here. My heritage is Finn. I worked with Christian bros. Sold sticks and invented the best ball hockey stick sold by Christian bros. Bill told me that all his machines to make sticks were made by an old Finn. I wanted to start a hockey stick factory too in northern Michigan . I made my first hockey stick when I was in high school after visiting c. Brothers in warroad. Titan was durable in the right areas , but ideally the industry still wants to make a stick that is good but wears out in order to sell more sticks. I saw the very first one piece carbon fiber stick while at a sales show, it came from Switzerland, I was standing next to bill and we asked how much the stick would sell for? He said $500 this was back when wood blades were still popular. We laughed and said no way would people pay that much. Now they pay a minimum $250-and up this was when $35 was expensive…

    I don't remember the fiberglass coated sticks he mentioned. I believe Titan reached their peak in Canada during the early to mid 80's when red Titans were promoted as a Bossy stick, and the white one as a Gretzky. I couldn't use those ones, I found them too flimsy. Maybe cuz I was a kid the ones he's mentioning were out of my parents price range. For me, having a heavy clapper from the age of 11, I used Canadian 8001's, which were fiberglassed on both fronts as well as on the blade 5:30

    Where can we get Titan sticks. They are still the best. They were the most durable; the plastic blade 'bead' protected the wood from wear and from absorbing water which weakened the laminations and wood structure in all other brands.
    Not only were they durable but they were sleeker and not clunky like other sticks. The feel, as far as I know, does not exist elsewhere on todays market.
