This was a phenomenal video. Not too much attention comes towards these guys who are an extremely rare breed that squeeze out that extra potential out of every player. His job is not easy, and to anyone who has ever played hockey we know how much having wrong fitting skates, or overly thick glove palms, or stiff elbow pads affects your level of play. He helps put out the Product that is the NHL player. Protected, comfortable, and with no doubt that unleashes the entire potential of players. Every person is built differently from head to toe, and nobody really ever thinks about how Hockey equipment in the NHL is tailored to support every need. I wish I could learn this mans craft. Marco is the man!

AWESOME!!!! ... Marco you are SUPER COOL ... and being Italian descent and being from Montreal area ... i grew up first 10 yrs in Montreal north area and then another 9 yrs on the South Shore before moving to Ontario but I cherish my Montreal time and your facial expressions are so typical of what an Italian/ Canadian and more specific a Montrealer always did ... love your Coffey/ Gretzky/ Messier story ... My father with me in the car once dropped off Maurice "Rocket" Richard's youngest son (Jean) after a game. Jean was on my hockey team in the early yrs when we were in Ahuntsic area of Montreal and the arena was Completely abuzz the once or twice a yr when the Rocket attended a game. Sadly being a 1st generation from immigrant parents I didn't have a clue (idiot i was) who the Rocket was .... despite being a HUGE NHL hockey fan cause once Jean was going around the dressing room collecting hockey sticks and when he got to me ... he said give me your hockey stick ... I put on a weird face and said what for ... he replied so my father can sign it... I said whose your dad .. he said the Rocket.. I looked dumbfounded and didn't give him my stick .. the kid next to me said his dad is the Rocket in a semi excited voice .. I replied well He's no Bobby Orr .... DUMB DUMB .... later as i got older did I READ about Maurice Richard

I can't prove, but I'm pretty convinced that 'pro-stock' equipment (and I mean the equipment made for NHL players) made from different materials, to meet the different standards and go through ultimate quality control process.
I've had two two pair of skates (one pair from Brad Richards, another -- Erik Burgdoefer's) and oh man, those skates are just amazing. I used CCM U+ Pro (Brad Richards) for 5+ years, pretty heavily and changed them may be year and a half ago for my current skates (may be very first version of Jet Speed, w/o numbers, Erik's).
What can I say... These skates are made to last, contrary to the retail skates which probably assumed to fell apart just at the end of the 2-years cycle CCM/Bauer used to adopt.

Ovi has something extra between his glove and elbow pads. Seems like plastic. Are they a separate piece or attached to elbow pads?

Probably just a slash guard. You can find them in all hockey stores. They're probably a separate piece, which would be easier to maintain.

tidbits ive heard over the years: steve yzerman wore heavy pants. if he didn't like them, he'd write on them with black magic marker these suck and send them back. lindros used an ultra heavy stick. paul coffee wore skates several sizes too small. ray borque hated wet gloves. he would use a dry pair each period. all of this is very standard now, but back then, guys used what was available. nowadays, players are pampered. anything they want, they get. in the real old days, guys would put styrofoam in their shinpads for more protection because the endless options weren't available.
