I used to buy Northland GOALIE sticks for under $5 in Grosse Pointe Michigan growing up. Just some wood dipped in clear fiberglass resin, they would last maybe 15-20 games if you taped them right. They had absolutely no BEND to them so handling the puck was challenging and they were 3 times heavier than the carbon fiber sticks they're spinning out of spider webs today. When the SherWood PMP sticks came out, we thought THAT was revolutionary at the time.
When NHL is suspended because of corona virus and your watching anything related to hockey
Lol. That is what I am doing.
Exactly what ive been doing + going to odrs
So true and also cause my hockey team is gone
Yeah I’ve been depressed my hockey team said no more hockey 😭😭
When you learn the history, you become more closer to it. That's why military personnel learn the Birthday of their branches by heart
Skipped the late 90s early 2000s phase of composite shaft with a wood blade.
Hockey Fan Inc good old two piece lol
I thought I could get away from my hand pass nightmares
Greatest " Illegal stick measurement " came in 93 Stanley Cup Game 2 . Kings were up 2-1 late in the 3rd and already won Game 1. Habs didnt want to go to L.A. down 2 nothing . Montreal late great coach Jacques Demers asked to measure the Kings Marty McSorley's stick. A very gutsy call only being down 2-1 . McSorley was busted and then Demers pulled Patrick Roy for a 6 on 4 PP. Habs scored and won in OT. Eric Desjardins scored the Hat Trick and is the only Defenceman to score a Hat Trick in a Stanley Cup Final. That penalty was the turning point in the series. Montreal would go on to win the next 3 games and win 4 games to 1 with 3 games won in OT.
tabarnak, it's great that you remember that! now, hold on to that memory, cherish it.... because the habs aren't winning the cup again until 2054.
You forgot about lie dude... a sticks lie. Very important. You’re welcome
One of the fellow coaches brought wooden sick from the 50s to practice, I couldn't believe how heavy it was. Would have loved to take a few shots with it.
Yooo love this video!! Such a banger🔥 I can't wait to see more😁!!
This with the changes in skates and equipment is why when records are made there can't be an accurate comparison to older hockey.
Glad I found your channel. Hype about your future vids. Keep it Up cuz youre one of my favs now
love that ash pic lol but also that slow shot of iconic hockey sticks from greats like Yzerman was very satisfying. love your stuff man.
Remenber that case of McSorley caught with an illegal stick, contributing to the Canadiens game-tying goal. Canadiens won the Stanley Cup in 1993 following that call
This is great!!
High quality vid. Good research and great editing, good job !
Cool stuff
Easton Synergy for life
I have two of O’Reilly’s actual LX Pro sticks and they are crazy fun to use and great at wrap arounds, and stealing the puck. The toe curve just cradles it enough to pocket it. You can also fling some hard angled passes using the toe curve on it. I’m about to order a couple more just in case.
Spezza's stick measurement penalty isn't even the most famous in NHL history. You actually MISSED the most famous stick measurement penalty in NHL history. That would be Marty McSorley's penalty against the Habs in the 1993 Finals.
Hockey sticc wacc the pucc
The Easton T flex is the reason we have one piece graphite’s
Best stick I ever had was Christian. Perfect whip for me, back when you just flexed sticks a picked the one that felt best. Worst was an aluminum shaft. Terrible for everything.
This is cool, I’m Micmac. Pretty cool to see vids like this. Mi’kmaw* down load L’nui’suti it will tell you about my language and a lot of basic words
I used Titan and Koho in the 70s and 80s. And a
Victoriaville goalie stick.
My first stick was a red Titan, which had a lot of fiberglass, including a nice bead along the bottom to reduce wear. Nice stick.
@@yogibearstie Red Titans were great!
Can you do the history of golf clubs
Easton to this day was the best hockey stick company.
I live in Nova Scotia
Heel to toe
Correction this history of hockey *twigs
Did he just say the more flex the stiffer the stick will be ??
This is almost informative but man did you miss a lot here
Are you from Detroit
One NHL player got his stick stuck on a door and that was the first curved stick because even though he got it stuck he still used it
ik
that was Mikita
I’m from St. Louis and even thought they cheated we still won the cup
Ничего не понятно но интересно.
Miq’mac
Pronounced Meek-Maw
Hetkonen, oliks tos Suomen lippu?🇫🇮
Licorice
this video sounds like a highschool research paper and you missed an entire era of sticks.
Between square and circle
I didn’t know philly whear sweat pants
Those were called "Cooper-Alls". A failed attempt to integrate hockey pants & shin pads.
wtf?? ryan o'reilly really uses that blade? I've never seen something like that lol
1:15 to 1:23 The commentator states that Mic Mac sticks were made of maple and willow. Freeze the Eaton's ad at 1:19 and it clearly says the mic mac sticks were made of golden birch with some from elm and ash.
The original sticks were made from maple and willow, as time went on many different wood types would end up being used.
Nova Scotia baby
There ya go call out the sharks fans
Nova Scotian here. You pronounced mi'kmaq wrong. It's not pronounced "mic-mac", but as "mig-maw". Also, they aren't Americans. We call them aboriginals or first nations
Nova Scotia gang
They live in North America. Americans (country citizens) still call them Native Americans (original inhabitants of the Americas).
@@nathanashton9146 same
Actually the way the curve on the stick was found was bobby hull was messin around trying to break a stick and jammed the blade under a door and It curved and he tried it out and it worked then it took off
Cool
Cody Cassel : Actually it was Stan Mikita first, then Hull did it too.
.
Is it pronounced comp-oh-site or comp-ah-site
In less you’re “in the slot” just use your hands for that
Let me save you some time.
First they were wood, and now they are not.
You're welcome.
It’s pronounced mig mah
cake Michael the king I’m glad someone said. As a Nova Scotian that triggered me lmao
Its prounced mig maw not mik mak I know because I have 2 mik maq friends
1:08 “mik mak” is actually quite a offensive term because when the maritime fur trade was happening they couldn’t tell the europeans what to call them and they just started to call them mik maks, its pronounced miq mak (mig-mahh”
No one cares
look, i hate to be that guy, but c'mon, the history of the hockey stick in 6n half mins??!! the history of "sher-wood" alone could be 2hrs. victoriaville, northland, ccm, montreal, cooper, jofa/titan, koho, torspo, artis, canadien, louisville, christian, easton, bauer, mission, branches, fontaine, innovative, nike, reebok, warrior, stx, true...
Bathgate was not the first--you need better research maam..
Bathgate took the shot that broke Jacque Plante's nose, which forced him to don his first face mask.
sticks today are trash. they break randomly on something as simple as a pass or faceoff
