    The first piece of equipment I ever learned to drive/use was one of these when I was still way too young to use one by today's standards. I didn't realize how much I missed the sound of that engine until I heard it again almost 25 years later. It gives me chills. One second I'm my current age, then suddenly I'm a kid again helping my grandad either till his big garden in the spring, cut down brush with the thresher bar in the summer heat, or haul logs from the woods to the house to stack up for the winter in the fall, or push snow with the big snow blade on that thing during the winter. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

    I like the contact bar you have mounted on the front to protect the fuel tank, that's a great idea and I might try making something similar for a few of mine.

    I had a model W some years ago. Needed too much work to repair so I let it go. Just for the record, never install a belt while the engine is running.

    I have an old 1951 simplicity. The motor was missing so I put a harbor freight motor on. All my other antique machines have the original motor. It only came with cultivators but I use it frequently. I am looking for an original engine so eventually I can put it back to stock. Nice machine you have.

      Thank you, good luck finding your engine. I have seen vintage generator and water pumps with the same engine

    Is this one of the older ones where you move the whole engine in order to tighten the drive belt?

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 7 lety

      not that one, there is a lever that lifts a pulley to give tension to the drive belt (at 55 seconds in the video)

  • @georgealmeida7382
    @georgealmeida7382 Před 4 lety

    if you turn all the tiller tines around and put a twist in the belt that goes to it youll be ammazed at how much better it works with the tiller spinning opposite direction of the wheels. .. dont laugh..it really works.

    How do the brakes work if the engine itself doesn't stop? I'm trying to figure that out so I can build a kart for my N and I don't know how to get the brakes working if I attach a belt to the rear axle without killing the engine.

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 2 lety +1

      There is no brake. The link between the engine and the gearbox is a belt That engage or disengage with a lever

    I just bought one today at the flea market for $150. It runs and came with rear cultivators and a layoff plow...he says it's a simplicity but not sure what model. Looks a lot like urs. Did I get ripped off or did I do ok.

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 6 lety

      I think you score, thats what I paid for mine few years back and it did not run, altough it did came with a tiller and a snowblower attachement. Somewhere on your machine they should be a metal plate with the serial and model number

    Could you put a slow-moving vehicle sign on a seat and put it on the back of that and use it like a tractor if that point is just a walk behind tractor with a dolly thing

      Hi, where I use to leave when I made this video, my best barn finds were in the local papers small ads ( I guess old timer dont used computer) then Craiglist, Kijiji. Also keep an eye out for auctions and estate sale...good luck in your search.

    Please learn better language skills. Instead of describing the job in terms of bad, let's use proper language and say something like, "Look at what a fine job this 55 year old piece of equipment has done.'' Also Too mention it's maintenance situation. If it's all original and has been on the job for all or some of those years state it to give credit for it. I have many older things that work nearly perfectly but some have sat out for many many years. Some have been right in the battle year after year and now need a new belt or spindle bearings. It's much more credible and gives a "real '' picture to the listener
