Just wanted to let you know that my wife and I followed this recipe this year and it was honestly the best turkey we have ever made in 20 years of hosting Thanksgiving! This was the easiest recipe to prep we have found so far, and was made a full day in advance which made the actual Thanksgiving day so much easier! Everyone who ate it raved about it! I'm pretty sure this will be the way we prepare the turkey every year moving forward. Thank you!
Aw
Same here
Grats!
Hope you have a good time in Thanksgiving!
NEXT TIME INVITE ME THIS LOOKS LIKE A DELICIOUS TURKEY, THE TRADITIONAL WAY IM TIRING OF IT
Did you wash it?
I tried this recipe over the weekend for an early Thanksgiving party and it was a huge hit! The turkey turned out incredibly juicy with perfectly crispy skin. The turkey breast took about 10-15 minutes longer than the thighs to cook, but other than that, everything worked out great.
was it hard to cut the turkey? it looks difficult. only reason im afraid to try it
Maria Hernandez, I bought my turkey in pieces, so probably only 12-13 pounds of meat total. I cooked it for 30 minutes on high, and probably another 40 minutes on the lower temp. Sorry, I know this is a late reply, but maybe you can use this for next time
Veronica Hernandez, I didn’t have an electric knife, so it was a little bit harder to cut. I just ended up cutting it in larger slices which wasn’t an issues at all.
@@adamlowe4697 good to know. thank you for your reply.
This sounds so wrong
As a new adult who’s doing thanksgiving myself for the first time, I really love how detailed the instructions are!
Hey Tasty peeps!
I thought this idea was awesome so I told my mom I'd do the bird this year. I've never broken down a whole bird before so I watched the vid all week in preparation.
I got home around 6pm today and went straight to it. I was done around 640ish. Thats including the brine and clean up! Now I'm roasting the carcass and veggies. I didn't even have rewatch the vid once I started.
Your step by step instructions were so well put together. I just want to thank you guys for putting this up for us!
Photos of the final product coming soon!
Jeleesa Toves and?
Update?
Yow. Update. It's been a year
Update
Still waiting for the photos
My gramma has been doing this for years. It tastes so much better than cooking the whole turkey. It gets way crispier and it’s faster too.
I really love this, I’ve never heard of someone breaking down the bird BEFORE cooking. Hopefully next year I’ll have my own place for my first thanksgiving and I’ll do this method. 💙
invite me
We do this every year (my dad's a chef)! Much quicker!
I'll bring some zing and pep
seeing my icon here really confused me for a sec 😂😂 I was like, wait, I never commented on this video before...lmao
beautifulgirlkorea.club/47_gsjsbn95.html
Did this for an early Friendsgiving and oooh man, I highly recommend it! The process wasn't as daunting and with a really sharp knife, I felt that I did a pretty good job breaking down my turkey. Getting the "oysters" out was definitely the hardest thing for me to do, but, hey, not bad for a first attempt. I would recommend using a coarser salt though. I just used regular iodized salt and it came out a bit too salty for my taste, but I was able to counter that by under seasoning the gravy. My presentation was VERY IMPRESSIVE though. Like once I finished cutting up the pieces, they made for some very nice Instagram pictures. Thank you Tasty!
How's the meat? Was it dry? Or still juicy?
@@MJoycee18 it was juicy. I took my pieces out at 160 instead of 165 and they turned out well.
@@SuperYooshii You're convincing me to cook it this way! Did you just use the same dry rub? Or did you add other spices?
I definitely spiced my rub up. I used some old bay, cayenne pepper, and a bit more sugar cuz my family likes it in the sweeter side. But I really think I over salted mine so be weary of the salt. I say try this recipe out! It only took around 30 minutes to break down the bird. I seasoned it, then left it in the fridge for like 14ish hours overnight. I made the stock and gravy the night before so I wouldn't need to worry about it the next day. I roasted some root vegetables before the turkey pieces and then an apple pie right after and in 2ish hours of baking, I had an entire Thanksgiving meal done. It was pretty easy! I just lined all of my baking dishes with foil so that clean up was a breeze. The only pan I did not line was the one I used to brown the carcass so I could get the drippings for the gravy. BTW, best gravy I have ever made
I don't have the grates to put it on. Would putting it on a cooking sheet with foil still do?
Best Turkey ever. I have done it for the last two years and absolutely will cook it this way again. I will never go back to the old method.
We put butter under the skin it makes the skin golden brown
Old school
Yeah they showed how to do that last year
Add butter plus herbs and garlic to make it even better and flavourful.
Save the Flowers i thought they did that in 2016?
Marinade the bird in orange juice & vinegar over night, next day butter under the skin, make slits & add cloves in there.
I come back every year to use this recipe. Love this
I followed your video last year and was amazed at how well it turned out ....re-watching because I intend to do the same this year ....Thank you for taking the time to show us all a better way...it truly was the best turkey I've ever eaten. I'm a 53 yr.old chef that started in the business at 15 .....just so you know , in all that time I'd never thought of breaking the turkey down...thank you !
I try this every year and everyone loves it. The best and easiest cooking turkey ever.
OK. I tried this method with my mom and it was quick, easy, and ridiculously fun! I'm not a raw meat kind of person but we had gloves and knives and scraping down the breast bone was the best thing I've ever done! And SERIOUSLY, when it comes to the way it was cooked... The smaller pieces like the wings and drumsticks took about 45 minutes (less cause we took them out at 200 degrees Fahrenheit). The larger pieces took about an hour twenty. either way, we were unprepared for them to take such a short amount of time so we covered them well in tin foil and put them on a cutting board to keep them hot. When my family was eating it, and we do have some picky eaters, EVERYONE was exclaiming on how delicious it was. The dry brine we chose (from a different recipe) made the chicken flavorful and the process of leaving it uncovered, in a fridge, overnight really did give a nice crust! My sister told me THAT was the best turkey she had ever tasted and my mom, who didn't believe in Tasty, will probably continue to do this method fro the rest of her life. Thanks Tasty!
What temp did you take the breast out?
Do you remember which dry brine you used?
What’s the dry brine you used?
@@pearl6487 I used the one included in the recipie. amazing.
@@karissheffer6717 but you said it’s from a different recipie?
Another reason breaking it down is helpful, it’s you’re now allowed to season every nook and cranny...
So for the past 3 Thanksgiving I've been looking up this video just to make this over and over again. Its the best turkey I've ever had!!! My cutting still needs more practice but I'm getting better at it every time I make this and everyone needs to make this turkey stock and gravy. Its heaven! Thank you so much for changing the game forever.
2:04 when I come back home from office
I can't stop laughing.
OMG 😂😂😂
LMAO
I tried this method when Tasty first dropped this video and it's my go-to method now. It makes meal day SO much easier and the turkey is delicious since you're able to season it all over. I just cut up and brined this year's bird and it's resting in the fridge for roasting tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Same here! I can’t make a Turkey any other way now!
As-salamu alaykum my dear Americans, from Republic of *Iraq!* Happy holidays! 🎂🎁
Absolutely love this video. Have used it for the past three years. Tips are excellent, and I always get rave reviews from my guests at the table. The dry brine is so simple, yet flavorful, and the whole process is easy. I use it for deconstructing all the birds I buy. Thank and please don't ever delete this video!
We found this recipe 2 years ago and this is how we do turkey now. No other way compares! We love it so much that we buy a turkey about once every 3 months to satisfy our craving for it. Thank you so so much for sharing this!
followed this so much easier to cook like this! also minimal mess, no nasty 'underneath soft parts' and no ugly looking carcass on the table!
Although i do miss the whole bird, but i'll deal with that... i forgot to use garlic granules for the dry rub so i ended up making a herb butter mixture and rubbing it all over the bird before popping it in. awesome!
I did this last year and I’m planning on doing it every year after! My dad said it was the juiciest turkey he’d ever had and the skin was so delicious. Thank you tasty!
Her voice is comforting. She could teach me anything. Is this the same person who did the cast iron treatment vid?
Tried this for Christmas dinner. I can not rave about this recipe enough!! The gravy was amazing and so was the turkey. My picky 8 and 6 also loved it. This was the first turkey and gravy I have EVER made and it was perfect.
I did this today for Thankgiving....All my friends LOVED it. They took one bite and were like "DAMN, THIS IS SOME GOOD TURKEY!". Thank you for this! I changed up the brine to make it spicer but I included minced onion, paprika, brown sugar, salt, and parsley flakes. Turned out pretty salty in taste for me personally but everyone else loved it. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!
So I did this for thanksgiving and the only thing I changed was I added rosemary, tyme, sage and fresh garlic with unsalted butter under the skin just before I baked it. It was a hit. Everyone loved the turkey. It wasn't dry and it was full of flavor, as was the gravy. Deboning the turkey was a lot of work but it was so worth it because baking the turkey in an hour and ten minutes was a life saver especially when I had other dishes to make. The stock and gravy that I made the previous day was also a time saver and it tasted delicious
I followed the turkey recipe this year for my first time cooking Thanksgiving dinner. I learned how to break down an ENTIRE TURKEY, I have so much turkey stock left back ... everything came out great! I been watching this channel for years. Thank you! Thank you so much.
I've been cooking the turkey with this method for 3 years now and it is AMAZING every time! Homemade turkey stock is also out of this world!
I followed this recipe today and everyone loved it even my picky eater toddler. It's my 1st time to prepare turkey & I was happy to try this. It was juicy (especially the breast part) and crispy skin.I also added onion powder, rosemary & thyme. I lessen the salt to 1/8. It came out perfectly. Not salty but very tasty from inside out. I will use this recipe yearly from now on.. 👍👍
I have been doing this for about 6 years. Saw it on America's test kitchen, thank you pbs
Pre-carving was such a genius idea. Guests were so impressed and this made serving so much easier. The brine was a little too salty but smothering the bird in gravy when eating helped that. Thank you for this video, truly life saving and time saving.
I tried this method for Thanksgiving this year and it was a resounding success. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Thumbs up from all 20 that were here for the feast.
This blew my mind. Cost effective and time efficient. Will never roast Thanksgiving turkey any other way. Just brilliant.
This is brilliant - I’ve been using Alton Brown’s turkey recipe for years with great success, this has inspired me to try a dry brine and breaking the turkey down before. Very excited to give it a go!
I had my thanksgiving tonight and did this. I have never cooked a turkey before. It was moist and the skin was crispy. Doing it this way every year now.
We did this last year in a smoker. WOW, it's now are go to turkey from now on. Thankyou!
I have prepared my turkey this same way for the last two years and it's amazing!!! The only thing I would caution is NOT to remove the breast meat from the bone. The breast meat tends to dry out easily and keeping it on the bone will help with moisture. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
You can actually baked the breast to 145-155 degrees and it'll still be safe to eat and you won't have to leave it on the bone.
Omg i did this for Thanksgiving, it was AWESOME!! used fine sea salt instead of kosher so it was a little over seasoned, but its was SO JUICY it didnt matter. A little extra gravy and cranberry sauce cut the salt perfectly. Even my dad, who was initially really upset over the idea of not having that perfect “Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving” is now a total convert to butchering the bird before. Thank you Tasty!!
This recipe is great! Made it two years ago and am looking forward to making it again this year! I followed the recipe exactly and it was the best, most delicious turkey we have every made. Thank you!
This is an amazing tutorial. Thank you so much! It'll be incredibly helpful when I'm learning to process birds I've raised myself, and then again when I'm preparing them.
Watched dozens of videos....because I'm a nerd. This one wins. Great job. I still love whole bird, but you killed it. Kudos.
My family never cooks a whole bird, everyone wants drumsticks so we always just buy a pack of turkey drumsticks and roast those!
2nd year following this recipe. Absolute hit. I'll never go back to the traditional way. This recipe is pure magic.
We tried this method for our 2021 Thanksgiving turkey and everyone raved about it. Each portion of meat was so juicy and tender. The flavor was incredible. I will definitely be using this recipe from now on. It was the perfect way to cook a turkey in a small apartment oven, which previously has been a challenge.
This is so good. I've watched this video maybe 20 times, and I took apart my bird/dry brined/made stock last night. It was immensely satisfying and the stock I have is ridiculously delicious. I'm out evangelizing this method to everyone I know. Thank you so, so much for the great video!
was it as hard as it looks?
@@foxiiroxii4925 No way! I was careful about preparing ahead of time by having a sheet tray ready to receive various turkey parts as I took it apart. That helped a lot. If you've taken apart a chicken, you're more or less experienced in turkey butchering. The rest of the process was as simple as a quick roast and a long simmer - most of the stock-making process was me watching CZcams videos and waiting :P I made my turkey last night exactly as above and it turned out SUPER well. I was shocked by how flavorful the breast meat was, and the gravy was rich and delicious. Best of all, most of the work was done ahead of Thanksgiving, so I spent most of the day hanging out with friends and enjoying their company instead of in the kitchen!
@@BenGilbertForReal ohh how awesome. i'll give it try! Thanks for replying
I found using a long bread knife makes the BEST tool to craving a turkey.. just go slow and apply even pressure
Started doing this a couple years ago and will never go back. Best tasting turkey ever!
Every year I think I watch all the Turkey videos on CZcams! This is the one I will use this year! Thank you!
In my family we just deep fry the turkey lol I can't remember the last time we had baked turkey for Thanksgiving

Just finished deconstructing the turkey, the explanation of ‘how to’ was great 👍🏼
Currently working on the stock so I can make the gravy tonight. Can’t wait to roast the Turkey and surprise the family tomorrow ☺️
You WONT regret it! No dry meat!
Thank you!!! Just did this and it's excellent! A bit more advance prep but so worth it when it's done - no need to carve a whole turkey! Gravy-excellent. Using extra broth to make stovetop stuffing. I'm really excited with how well this worked out! One tip-make sure you have a meat thermometer and you do have to watch the individual pieces as they cook at different rates.. #grateful for this recipe!
So glad I found your video before Thanksgiving. Everything is so clear and concise . Cooking a holiday meal can really be a chore, but honestly, I can hardly wait to get started using your ideas! Thank you! :)
Now this is a pretty awesome technique. I also love how it allows the skin to get crispy all over. This would save a lot of time. I will have to attempt it after Thanksgiving as the family doesn't do well with "New Fangled Ideas". I definitely agree with not washing meats, the splattering of the water does spread bacteria even more. If your cook your bird properly, then the bacteria will be destroyed by the heat. Thank you for the tips, I'm gonna give this a try!! Also, I like to chop up my carcass into smaller bits. I think that allows even more flavor to carry over into the broth!!
I’m told my mom that I’m doing the turkey this year for Thanksgiving and she said ok 👍🏾 so I’m showing her this video of how it’s going to go. So far she’s interested and I am too. I ❤️ this idea because it is much easier l. Glad I discovered this video
Are you planning on doing the stock? I'm think of doing this for Christmas and I can't decide if the stock is really worth the effort. X
This is me this year, last year my mom's Turkey was really bland and every one mostly ate my mom's mashpatatoes so a lot of left over turkey which was sad. It's also an excuse my mom have so that she doesn't have to do it and she loves turkey and when she saw the video she said I can do it because it looks delicious.
Adele Taylor Yes I will be doing the stock
Jasmine Aburto Oh ok well if y’all do it this way in the video this year then I’m sure you and everyone else will be satisfied. I will be prepping my turkey early tomorrow morning
Same I'm going to do it with my sister tomorrow but I might not do the video.
This is the best recipe for turkey and I’ve made this many times for thanksgiving and Christmas, this technique just simplified everything for the day of your dinner. I’m not a good cook so cooking a huge dinner is very intimidating for me and this technique removes all of my stress immensely, thank you for sharing! The turkey comes out so flavourful and juicy not dry at all, it’s delicious 👍👍 the only way I will prepare turkey forever.
Thank you for this video! I tried it this year, and we had our BEST turkey ever!! Everyone raved about it; I'm definitely doing it this way from now on!!

Just wanted to say thank you very much for the well done video on cooking the bird this year! It went amazingly even though my bird was over 20lbs! Best part was the crispy skin! Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
I am in this same situation (21.6 lb bird). I am glad to hear it worked well for you!
Dam that's one pricey turkey
@@axtra9561 lmao
NY here . It’s average, I’ve seen $65+ .
*Damn
It's meant to feed a huge gathering
It’s a decent price for a free range, organic non gmo fed bird. I usually pay around 65-70$ for my 18 lb organic specialty turkey I don’t buy grocery store turkeys they’re pumped full of water and they’re fed gmo feed and given antibiotics and it’s just NOT GOOD EATS, splurge on a really nice turkey that’s at least organic you will taste the difference once your eating!! ALSO REMEMBER TO LET YOUR BIRD REST IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW LONG, use this rule of thumb, 1 minute per lb of turkey to rest. 12lb=12 minute rest 15lb-15 min rest, and so on and so forth.
This recipe changed my Thanksgiving life - it’s been my go-to for the last 5 years and I’m never going back!
I’ve been using this recipe for years and it makes the best turkey. I do come back to the video every year to watch the detailed instructions about about how to cut up the bird. It cooks so much faster than a giant turkey in the oven
1st timer, will be trying this out in a couple weeks!
How did it go for you last year? I'm combining what she does with a video I can't find any longer that suggests roasting the pieces on top of a pan of stuffing. I've got it all cut up, brined, and in the fridge for tomorrow and the carcass is in the oven.

We decided to cook our turkey this way for Thanksgiving. It was the most outstanding turkey we have ever made. The gravy alone was worth it! Everyone went nuts for the turkey. It was even called “money” by one of our friends. And we had it for days after (we did 2 turkeys just so we would have some leftovers). Even after reheating, it was STILL tender and juicy. The flavor was unreal. Tasty, you get full credit for our amazing Thanksgiving meal!

Yeah that's why I don't shop at Whole foods.
I suggest Walmart, krogers, price choppers, or Albertsons. Keep an eye out for deals as we get closer to the holiday some places give you a free turkey if you spend like $100, or simply offer a really low price with coupons.
I saw this last year and decided to do this this year and it was a big hit! The video was extremely accurate and it was great to have another helper to pull the carcass away to help me cut etc. The turkey cooked in 1 hr 10 mins as.opposed to three hours! The brine worked fine but consider she used this Amt of salt for a 15 lb bird so cut back accordingly if yours is smaller. I used the 15 lb amt on a 13.5 lb bird and it worked out well. This recipe allows the turkey to be carved beautifully without any waste and stock made in advance. A total winner in my book! Thank you Tasty!!!!
Thank you for sharing this method of cooking the turkey. I’m so impressed with your high quality tutorial, neat and systematic explanation and a soothing voice! Happy Thanksgiving!
