  • In this informative video, we delve into the working principle of pig launchers and receivers, vital components in pipeline systems. Whether you're an engineer, pipeline operator, or simply curious about the inner workings of these devices, this comprehensive guide will provide you with a clear understanding of their purpose and operation.
Through detailed explanations and engaging visuals, we'll cover the key components of pig launchers and receivers, such as the launching barrel, closure door, pig trap, and pigging valves. Gain insights into their roles in launching and receiving pigs (devices used for pipeline cleaning, inspection, and maintenance) and learn about the safety measures involved in their operation.
Furthermore, we'll discuss different types of pigs, their configurations, and their applications in pipeline operations. Understand how pig launchers and receivers play a crucial role in preventing contaminants, maintaining pipeline integrity, and maximizing operational efficiency.

Interesting! I am a student currently studying these types of systems.
So the pigs must be removed from the receiver after each launch? No way to store multiple pigs in the receiver and remove all at once?
Another general question about pigging: How is the bypass section of pipe and the section from the source dealt with since the pig does not travel through it?

I thought pig launchers were devices that made pigs fly.

I was told by a pipeline installer I know that the early types of straw/leather/barbed wire construction pig made a squealing noise (like a real pig) as they travelled along the pipe. Hence the name, which stuck even though the modern types are quieter.

This is what my professor says; however, my textbook says it stands for Pipeline Intervention Gadget.
