    Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

    As an Asian American, I was sad by how poor this interview was. I absolutely adore Stephen and he's always fantastic at making conversation. But he just seemed impersonal around Randall and when it came to discuss the actually, interesting topic of the first all Asian American show in decades on network TV he wrapped the intvw. Stephen, the show is called "Fresh off the boat" to highlight the racism that came with someone using that phrase, so you're not supposed to use that phrase seriously in conversation that way! "Were your parents fresh off the boat?" And Randall has to look at him to see if he was sincerely using that phrase. Sometimes you are so...white. .

    • @Neojhun
      @Neojhun Před 7 lety +21

      WTF do you even know anything about the background of the show or even who Eddie Huang is. It was not to highlight it as racist but more to make it less divisive. You are literaly doing the opposite of the creators originaly intentions. Seem like Stephen and probably production team thought over this and purposely used it on purpose. Based on the Book and Shows original intentions.

With all due respect to Mr. Park, their is not enough time to develop and print a full roll of color film 'by hand' in one hour, much less multiple rolls. Not to mention that virtually no 1 hour photo labs had the darkroom and other equipment to do that.

      Also to be fair, as people coming from minority cultures, we are so used to being put under the same umbrella term "Asian" whereas there is actually a great variety of Asian cultures that differ in many significant ways from one another. So I kind of appreciate that Colbert's question in its way acknowledges it, inquiring if he feels it easy to manage the portrayal of someone outside of his own background. Tho him asking this question may be due to his short of understanding Asian cultures, the intention is quite benevolent. It just serves as a good opportunity for all of us to come to learn about Asian cultures and how they interact and differ just like the way European cultures do.

      @han9118 Před 4 lety +2

      1313sp you know what I used to also find blatantly offensive? Asian parents giving their kids Anglo Saxon names thinking of this as a way for them to fit in. But really why does it matter? I don’t mean to say that there aren’t people out there who ask this kinds of questions in a negative way. But beating someone up just because they don’t know well just shows ignorance on the attacker’s part. Try not to give them solid grounds for accusing us of being “politically correct” which most of us are not. Btw, I ask white guys about their heritage too. It’s actually quite a good conversation starter and so far nobody has accused me of being racist
