- In the early 1930s a new generation of aircraft was steadily changing the world of commercial aviation in Europe. There were more and more aircraft that were both light and fast, and boasted efficient airframes and retractable landing gear. Those planes were not only faster than their contemporary military counterparts… but also faster than some fighters!
That was a weird turn of events for sure - but, most importantly, it prompted the military to change their views on bombers. Why would you build just aircraft that are heavy and slow when you could also make bombers that are light and fast? Thanks to their speed, they would never have to face their opponents directly… and it seemed that it wasn’t even that difficult to make aircraft like that.

The Do-217 is the plane I used to grind tier 3, 4, and 5. It took me 3 months.

Same mate. Used the Do 217 E-2 and E-4 extensively to grind German planes whiel doing 4.7 Ground RB matches. Those 1000 kg (2.204,62 lb) bombs work wonders against enemy armor.
did that with the Ju-288. It took me 1.
How? When I fly it, The Do 217 flies like a concrete block. The Ju 88 is much much better in turning and climbing

A 50kg can be effective if you aim well

I mean, i have out turned other bombers, attackers and even some heavy fighters in the do217 e-1 (without bombs), so it can kind of stand their ground. And even when it can't, its just such a nice aircraft to fly.
Atleast we would get to attack the bombers for a lil while

Yes, so you can have a feel of it and incentive to research it
and unlocked armament for testing...there is no real point to test with default armament.
Even though I would really like this feature, they will not because they don't want you to see how bad top teir is lol.

It's quite comical getting a well-spoken voice actor to read out copy like "that was a weird turn of events for sure"
I'm not a gamer but it was interesting to know about the Dorniers. My perception was that after the original Do17 the JU88s seemed to be the " main plane." Even reading old RAF pilots and history authors' memoirs and accounts, Do217 variations are rarely mentioned - they always seemed to be intercepting 88s or 110s.
Its important to note that misidentification happened quite a lot, so you should not always trust a memoir with these things. That being said, its absolutely the case that the Luftwaffe relied more on Ju88s (around 2700 nightfighter variants built) and Bf110 (around 2800 nightfighter variants built) then Do217s (around 500 nightfighter variants built) when it comes to the nightfighter role

Honestly? All I'd like is some more love for the Ju 88. It's overlooked by many and is not to be underestimated to say the least
The Dornier Do 17 was sometimes referred to as the Fliegender Bleistift ("flying pencil"), it was popular among its crews due to its handling, especially at low altitude, which made the Do 17 harder to hit than other German bombers.

I'm in love with Dornier as I am with Focke Wulf,Heinkel, Junkers, Arado , BV , Meser and V- 1 , V- 2 ......I need to get another house to place my Luftwaffe and B-17 F 1:48 ....oh even my fw 190 V -18 in 1:72....my Vasa 1:144 rebuilt in a Spanish Galleon ( very well done cause i do paint, I do study and I do love those XVI and XVII century ships)...
Somehow played the Do 217N a month or two ago after probably a year or more not using it... and finally got a Schräge Musik kill... poor Stirling.

DO-217 N-1 Used it very early in war thunder as it was able to soak up damage and demolish the enemies

The 3rd one gave up and landed and waited for me to shoot him than take off again (i guess) trying to kill me one last time failing miserably...

Ok, so Do 335 is a Dornier. It is however, not part of this family. Messerschmitt made both Bf-109 and Bf-110, but they’re not the same family. Just like Hawker made the Hurricane and the Hunter, but they’re not the same family.

That's probably my go-to Dornier aircraft to fly if I need some quick SLs. The nose battery... It's just so, so perfect.
I use the Do-217 K-1 mainly for mixed battles. I got a 5 kill on a point with a couple 1000 kg bombs with it. Also, I find the K-1 double machine gun sticking out the front to be a more reliable forward gunner armament then the 20 mm cannon. But that may be just me.

Dorniers were the only aircraft that bombed the island I live on during WW2. They blew up a bunch of tomato trucks that were mistaken for tanks. Crazier still, the local airline uses modern Dornier aircraft now.

I have a question, where is the booster on the Mirage III C ? When I take the loadout with 2 magic and the matra (the one indicated on the devblog) there is no booster, same with aim 9 b and matra. Unless it is else where...

The booster is only equipped in load outs without guns. Try looking for
1 x Matra 530
2 x Matra 550 Magics
(No guns)

I know they probably won't check this but quite a few British Bombers did have ventral gunner positions including the Avro Lancaster B some an actual turret others a cut out either a Vickers 12.7mm or .303, There're posts on the forums asking for these turrets still hell the models ironically have these positions in game.
Another thing still no Dornier Seaplanes like the Do.26, why none of these ntm the Do.217 with the Henschel guided bomb one did after all sink the Italian Battleship Rm Roma.
P-61 is a better pick by far lol. Amazing br, amazing turret, radar, 61mm effective thickness glass in the front of the cockpit making it really good in head on's, 4x 20mm's and a turret with 4x 50 cals! What more could you want!? (Also got a sick paint job!)

To me the Do 335 is my favorite, and I love flying boats so I Love the Do-24, cripes I could write a book on flying boats. But yes the Flying Pencil Do17 as it was called always looked beautiful.....I had forgotten about all the derivations!

I like using my N-1 in Sim, and am currently grinding through in E-2. Although I think my E-2 is cursed. I've only gotten back from target once and even then I had one engine out. And considering how often you don't get intercepted in sim?

Please fix the touch pad controls for PS4. Flying has become unplayable since we can’t pull any fast manoeuvres or react quickly enough in a dogfight + the sensitivity has been increased so high it’s near impossible to accurately aim at someone without swaying all over the place. Please fix

The changes to the Italian ground tree had such a big missed opportunity, an Italian Tiger H1. Maybe with unique paint so it wasn’t a literal copy paste like half the tree
1.7 the first one cause its just as good as most others planes in its br just with a 20mm witch is rare at 1.7 it shreds plans top tier ds just fall victim to fast fighters very easily

The do-217 J-N series makes me want to install a red water fountain in my forehead
The problem with the upward firing cannons was your target will come down. The last sight some German night fighter pilots saw was their victim crashing into them.
My favorite types? The -217-j1 & -j2. Also the torpedo-carrying ones.

You click on the load out you want and there's select button in the corner. You click it and it's done.

Schräge musik was an automatic system. but in the game its stupid, you have to change your weapon system and then fire manualy while only looking upwards ....

There is a correlation between 30s passenger aircraft and early wwii bombers exist, but it completely diffrent than the video suggests. Idea of a light, fast bomber was the logical conclusion drawn from the german strategy of combined forces working together in blitzkrieg. Such bomber would be ideal in short range operations, destroying enemy's infrastructure behind the front line(like transportation hubs or bigger troops and vehicle concentration points). During this time there were treaties, denying Germany right to have their own air force, or work on new military aircraft. So military aircraft producers divided to hide their new light bombers, under the facade of working on new passenger aircraft(not the other way around). Of course it was just in the early stages of Germany's road to war, later they just stopped caring about west's reaction. Just a little fun fact.
