It’s really cool to see what others are doing on their model railroads with all the planning and development. Love the junk yard scene with the crane. The concrete building is inspiring with all the layers of work, it’s what makes it come to life. Great job!
Truly great work ! The weathering is outstanding !
I grew up in Brooklyn and remember that Kentile sign very well. I took the F train home from school, and I think my father worked in that building for a while. Looks great.
love that Kent Tile Floor sign very much, my old man used to work there as a checker.
I appreciate your level of detail and completely agree with your comments regarding nostalgia. I live in North Carolina but model the New Haven in the Providence area 1965, which is what I remember from childhood.
Not a train guy but love the earthy look of your layout. Also like the Evergreen container - every modeller's dream to come across an abandoned one of these but still full!

Love the weathering on your overpass and supports.
Exciting updates! Absolutely love that new background building!
Thanks Jason!
The Swingline factory in Long Island City was a great landmark
It's on my list, as well as Eagle Electric.
As someone who lived in New York for years and explored the Queens/Brooklyn old industrial areas, you have captured the location beautifully.
Love that crane and the level of detail you have included. Also the buildings in the background are excellent. Tge broken concrete with the exposed rebar is outstanding, I did something similar using foam board pulling off the top cover the painting the core various shades of grey and I used paper clips for the rebar.
Really well done
Bay Ridge Brooklyn here,,
Love the new sign i might have to order one.
Thanks for the update.
Keep them coming.
that crane is amazing looking, love the shattered glass in the window, great touch. the concrete weathering on that backdrop building is superb. Nice peek at some of the limited run kit on Pateron too. Thanks Doug. Cheers Rob
Thanks for watching....yup, Loren did a great job with that crane.
Your layout is one of the best urban layouts I have seen. The perfect balance of structures, track and open spaces. That's hard to achieve because there is always the desire to add one more building or siding.
Thanks Jeff...I usally get myself into a corner because I tried adding too much, which has happened lately...but just as happy to undo it and start over in sections.
Great work.
Doug, Thank you for the update. You are certainly capturing the essence of New York.
That Crane is amazing, your friend did an awesome job.
Cheers, and stay safe, Michael
Silvercup Bakery in Queens! Iconic!
If i can fit it in, yes !
@@FosScaleModels In the mid-eighties, when it was a film facility-- and I was in the ad biz, I was shooting a Hallmark commercial there for Y&R. In the sound studio next to us Hall and Oates were filming a music video!
Wow! So cool!!!
I absolutely love the building. That is exactly the kind of building I'd like to model on my new layout. I am saving this video for future reference. Great work. Thanks for sharing this.
Great video !!!! The NH hat.... 👍👍👍
Thanks Loren, and thx for the hat!
Thanks for the stuff I received......
Like that you have a LIRR engine there.
Need a few more!

Cesar
Thanks for watching Cesar
Cool 👍
It's good to see you enjoying, and sharing your layout with us. Even though it's not in my era of interest, still a lot can be learned by watching what you're doing. Thank you.
As someone who used to live in the New York area, I really enjoy the details in your layout.
I bought a crane, but the one you have in layout is much more realistic …
Great work Doug!
Looks great. What part of the city did you grow up in? My family is from the Bronx. We had moved to Queens by the time I was born (Francis Lewis Blvd). But we moved to CT when I was 4. In CT our neighbor was from Canarsie and my sister-in-law is in Park Slope.
Also, thank you for your Patreon and allowing me to reconnect with an old train buddy from 25+ years ago.
Elmhurst/ Middle Village / Jackson Heights - Queens.....Park Slope - Brooklyn.
I love the Pan Am sign. Will you be doing any of the Maspeth Yards. Will you bring in the 7 line blue and white subway cars too?
Dear Doug, awesome how you did the KenTile Flooring sign and the concrete flat for the backdrop. Love the scrapyard crane and the way you’re planning the new geography of the scrap facility. Your use of mock ups is definitely a true learning experience. As for the piers edit. Very interesting how this corner of the layout is ‘opening up.’ Looking forward to your next episodes, would love to see your input on the valence construction, lighting and backdrop for the 12” wide section of the layout. Cheerio
A quintet hut would look great
Make that a quonset hut
Great update! Love the backrop building.
As I have mentioned before I am so very impressed with your layout and building constructions in particular.
The concrete building in particular is of great interest, specifically how you constructed it, the material used and hiw you prevented if minimized the warping that often occurs after paint is applied.
I have made some small concrete structures using foam core board. After removing the top cover I applied various paints to achieve the effect of concrete but the board would warp.
Did you use a number of layers of card etc eg. The main facade plus columns etc?
Thank you
Regards
Charlie
Off to listen to "Subway Terror" by 70s New York Rock group Starz........!
Are you going to make the background flats as kits? I need 9ft. Four stories. Right now it's three buildings I built awhile age. They are terrible.
The one in the video will be a kit, probably in July .
