Layout Update #1 Brooklyn Queens Extension Railway - 2/19/23

- This is a brief look at my layout that is in progress, mostly unfinished, but on it's way to being set in the late 1970's featuring Queens and Brooklyn, New York - and a lot of graffiti and unregulated pollution. Conrail is the main road running through this freelance version of that time and place, along with Penn Central, Amtrak and the New Haven Railroad.
This is the first update, so there's a lot of "bare plywood". I'm still finding an overall look and tone for the layout, so there's a lot of trial and error, ongoing changes and experimenting.
Hope you enjoy it! - Jak na to + styl
Great detail so far ! Those Lunde Studio buildings are so good ! Thanks for sharing ! Bob P.
Thanks! Will be adding more Lunde kits for sure.
so many rooftop detail possibilities... scrap pile is very nice!
Thanks Greg...rooftops are the fun part!
Doug, it's nice to see your home/shop layout, lots of great details, culvert with water pouring out came out nicely!
Wow wow and wow , love the scrap yard , my scrap yard does not come close, thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you Mike - scrap yards can grow over time!
Check out this video; its' where I saw the idea on how to make it: czcams.com/video/5m4Y1bbxIx0/video.html
@@FosScaleModels yes, I already checked it out…
I did a scarp/junk yard too. It’s posted on my you tube channel…
Looks amazing, thanks for the tour.
Cesar
Thanks Cesar!
Looks like the opening credits to “Welcome Back Kotter.”
Thanks! That's the look I'm going for.
I look forward to the next installment! The level of detail is amazing. I've kit-bashed a couple of cardboard buildings in my day...
Mock ups help! Thanks for the comments.
WOW! Looks great! Love the attention to detail. It really does have a 70’s look and feel to it. Looking forward to more progress videos
Thanks Jason! And thanks for the push to show the layout!
Looks amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Sebastien!
Looks amazing! What an eye but we knew that because of your kits.
Thanks Bob!
Thanks for sharing, Doug. It's great to see the expertise, care, and detail you put into your kits applied on a larger scale. Very inspirational and instructional. Definitely looking forward to more. Thanks.
Thank you!
You're detail is amazing. I grew up in Queens in the 70's and you are accurate. You could mock up Silvercup Bread or Kaufman studios . Hellgate railroad bridge would be awesome!
Thanks Al, I'll be adding Eagle Electric and probably Swingline Staplers for sure.
Ottimo lavoro, layout bellissimo 🚂👋👍
Thanks for the tour. Love your graffiti and the highway overpass. Glad you may be working with brick-and-mortar buildings and maybe some more modern 70s era kits. Scrap pile looks good but will provide minimal market return. Once sorted, sheared and or bailed you will receive a much higher market value.
Thanks Brandon!
Brick buildings look great. Nice to have a break from clapboard.
It's nice to mix it up; Thanks Ted!
Doug, I love this stuff! My kind of modelling! Love the way you combine your clapboard wheelhouse talents with the masonry structures for that big city feel. Looking forward to some upcoming brick structures from Fos Scale Models? :)
Hey! That cardboard building behind you looks like on of my completed kits after i build it.
Looks awesome 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
Sweet!
Thanks for the tour! I'd also be interested in seeing your workshop and where the kit manufacturing is done.
Will get around to that , thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing that Doug, brings back lots of NYC memories. We forget just how much trash was around then. Looking forward to further updates a look at other sections.
Thanks Keith!
Great video! Thank you! Got a lot of tips for my layout! /Susanne
EXCELLENT!
Thank you!
Very nice Doug - good job of capturing the grittiness of the industrial areas of Brooklyn and Queens. Grew up in Richmond Hill
The details are just wicked good. Thanks for making and sharing these videos.
Thanks! More on the way.
Looks great! Keep up the good work on the layout and on your fantastic kits!
Love it.
I’d keep that little KOTM stucture though!
Gives viewing access to Wachters and adds a lot of forefront detail!
Will see how it looks when the other big structures are in!
Looking great! Really nice details! Definitely has a Queens/Brooklyn feel!
Thanks Jeff!
Very cool layout Doug, love the perspective you’re already achieving. Cool to see what kind of changes you have in mind, with the larger buildings. Awesome cityscape!
Thanks Vincent!
Kinda glad to see that a modeller like you isn't any closer to finishing their layout than us! ;-) Great detail and thanks for the look at it. Cheers
Too many projects not enough time:)
Layout is looking GREAT !!! The city block end is going to look fantastic...
Thanks Loren!
Great looking layout! Your detailing is fantastic!
Thank you Keith!
Outstanding work! Great detail. (BTW, how about some more '70s-80s inspired kits from Fos Scale. Asking for a friend).
Thanks Kevin! Interesting idea...
I like the Elmhurst Gas Tanks lurking in the backgraound at 4:30. Looks like the old Swingline Staples factory at 8:50. Where's the topless bar?
You are di=oing a Great Job with your Layout except a lot more garbage and pollution needs to be added which you already know. I hope the detail parts suppliers have enough!!!
The bridge piers are incredible. Could you do a video on making, painting, and weathering them ?
Great idea, will do soon!
Great layout doug.
As a person who grew up in park slope in the 70's i have to say you really got the environment spot on. I am seeing some industry city,Redbook some elmhurst and the canals.
Is it possible to add a sign of old in a kentile floors sign.
Keep up the great work.
Thanks Glen, would love to add the Kentile sign, though it'd prob have to be scaled down a bit, or just use in photo backdrop.
You should do class of 78"... graffiti...
Great idea, will work it in, thanks!
