Summer Heights High was Chris Lilley’s best work , hilarious.
We can be heroes is better in my opinion
We Can Be Heroes was possibly even better.
Extreme Darren was good too lol.
*Scooter tips:*
1. Not gay
*SICK! FULLY!*
Ryan, you summed it up perfectly - 'why do I feel that I went to school with these people?' - because you did, every school has these people in them.
I love learning about Australia from an American, as an Australian 😂❤❤
And am learning about a Australian frm a American as a Brit
He’s a comic genius! I used to work at a school and all the teachers said they’ve all had a ‘Jonah’ at least once in their teaching careers. This show was comedy gold.
I was mates with a *Jonah* . He was expelled for shoplifting in school uniform *LMAO*
@@nickwilliams6621 that’s gold! 🤣
Love how the kids keep straight face .
Because you done this one, now u gotta check out the OG and the best! We can be hero's with the def twins Daniel and Nathan
And.... Pat Mullins, the rolling lady - bahaha!
Glenn Robbins as Russel Coight - All Aussie Adventures. Would be a great show for you to watch.
That show is fking hilarious lmao.
Time to hit the road!
I was in year eight when this came out. Somehow every person in my high school felt represented by this show 😳😳
Yes, he did improvise most of it. He had the storyline and improvised from there. Absolute genius.
The kids not laughing deserve the acting award 😂😂
😂Oh my God, this is so my type of humor, I peed my pants watching it!🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the reaction to it and an absolutely great start of the day, Ryan!😊
This is utterly brilliant. I was working as a teacher when this aired. All of us loved it. We had all taught a Jonah and a J’amie.
The brilliance with Jonah is any teacher knows if you want a Tongan boy to start behaving, you contact the mother. By having Jonah as only having a father, the female English teacher was just screwed!
The character he plays on that stage is as an Asian guy playing an indigenous Australian. So we have a white Aussie guy as an Asian playing the role of an Indigenous Australian, that's a handful right there. Yeah he is a genius mate.
My kids and I both loved this show. It was filmed at a school nearby and used some of the students as cast. It was hilarious. Aussie classic
I believe the Principal in this series was the real principal of the school. My boys attended this school for a year, as an aside I believe Kylie Minogue actually went to this school.
Classic? don't think so!!
I think the female school Principal was genuine.
@@belleriffraff you have a right to your opinion, as I do. Aussie classic…very much so
He just does the characters so spot on. My favourite was the boy.
It's definitely worth watching the full series of Summer Heights High, even if you don't want to react to them here for copyright etc
Ryan, I have never seen you so lost for words 😂
Jonah fron Tonga was shown in the US and failed because people took it too seriously. None of the Islanders in Australia were offended and they loved it, but Americans rejected it. His last one is a great show, too. The South African dog psychic and the ageing porn actress are two I remember. He is such a good actor. In Summer Heights High on one episode he also did a Chinese kid acting as an Aboriginal. It was so cringe funny! Chris Lilley os of the ilk of Tracey Ullman - a great and adaptable character actor and writer.
Ricky Wong was in we can be heroes. Not summer heights high
Joyce the "actress", and Jana the South African psychic.
I loved Lunatics and Joyce was my favourite character. The unexpected sweetness of her story arc was really endearing.
Muricans are weak when it comes to Chris Lilley's shows.
Chris attended my first Public Primary school on North Shore in Sydney, several years after me. Hugh Jackman was also there. The school has a big history of Drama and Music. He says he never liked being told what to do
We Can be Heroes, Summer heights High, Ja'mie Private School Girl, Jonah, Angry Boys, Lunatics - all brilliantly funny to me. We all had a Mr G at school, and a Ja'mie. Chris has a way of nailing the characters, and is very talented. I have a signed Ja'mie poster and one of the Hillford tops used in Ja'mie. He sold them off and donated the funds to charity. Love him❤
Love Chris so much. You have no idea what you have got yourself into. 😂
Thank God You’re Here. That was probably a reference to the Aussie Comedy show called ‘Thank God You’re Here’ where comedians are dressed up and put in situations they have no idea about until they walk through the door, and have to improvise. Some of them are really funny and popular. Particularly Hamish Blake. Check it out if you want a good laugh.
YES! I absolutely loved TGYH.
The one I laughed at most was Cal Wilson (Kiwi, but ours!)as a beauty contestant. First series.
For me Chris Lilley is next level when it comes to this sort of Comedy, he nails the stereotypes of the characters he plays.
We genuinely studied this in our social studies course in high school. I thought this was absolutely hilarious at the time. Offensive comedy was quite popular on Australian TV at the time. My all time favourite was the Chaser’s War on Everything, a satirical show which often went “too far”. There are whole episodes on CZcams, I highly recommend. Summer Heights High has been cancelled due to the depiction of Jonah, the Pacific Islander boy, and Chris Lilley is decidedly uncool. I think it’s unfair to project our current standards onto works made in a different time.
Australian of the year was his funniest. With the woman who was going to roll from perth to Sydney.
RIP Pat!
Haha Pat Mullins…. And her poor husband 😂
Mr G is my ultimate Chris Lilley character …. Perfection.
The resignation, perfection 🤌
Soo creepy!
Loved this show and especially "Mr G".
"Shove it up your **** Margaret!" 🤣🤣🤣
This was filmed at Brighton Secondary college in Melbourne during school times and lots of school kids and teachers were involved also. My son attended that school at that time.
I've seen this comedy in New Zealand and it's hilarious you need to watch them at leat a few .
Don't worry; nobody else knows what to say about Chris Lilley's shows either. He was one-of-a-kind. Sadly, he got 'cancelled' because the broadcasting powers-that-be couldn't see that his characters were caricatures. Don't know what he's doing now.
Ja'mie first appeared in We Can Be Heroes: Finding the Australian of the Year, which is also great!
Good on you, Ryan!!
Chris Lilley's "We Can Be Heroes" - too funny!
I fracking love that to creat Ja’mie, Lilley barely uses makeup; his stubble is still a little visible. It’s ALL done with a simple wig of the right cut, body language, and voice. And I instantly see ‘girl’.
😂....🤣 One of the best reactions to Chris Lilley I've ever seen, Ryan! That was fantastic, and I love that you had so much incredulous, gobsmacked fun in the process! (Bogans don't have to be male, by the way.)
One of my classmates was in Lunatics, and her father (our chemistry teacher) also got a cameo. Now she's running for local politics
Puck you! I said puck you, Miss, with a P! Hahahaha........
I would recommend watching We Can Be Heroes by Chris Lilley.
Love the shirt Ryan
Jeezus, I forgot about this fella. Funny af when watching stoned 😅
Loved this series 😂
Another funny Aus high school comedy series was You're Skitting Me, with an excellent ensemble cast of teenagers.
Then there was the series set at university for Ronny Chieng - International Student. Yes, THAT Ronny Chieng.
Have you watched Kath & Kim yet?
The yanks tried to do a version that bombed. They just really don’t get us.
You may also be interesting in another series by Chris Lilley called _We Can Be Heroes: Finding the Australian of the Year._ though I believe it's better known as _The Nominees_ outside of Australia.
😂😂 love your sht mate.
Really makes my day watching your channel.
What about Jonah from Tonga? That’s a classic too.
Most of Chris Lilley’s work has been placed on the PC Bandwagon but if you grew up with these beautiful island people you would def appreciate this show. Island people are mostly kind family oriented people I have ever met. ❤️😊
I don’t think Chris Lilley meant harm, just have giggle with all different nationalities.
Chris' old stuff like *Extreme Darren* are bloody hilarious aswell. *We Can Be Heroes* and *Summer Height High* {in my opinion} are his best though.
I enjoyed Australian of the year series. Quite amusing
Chris Lilley is brilliant.
I love Summer Heights High!
Absolutely loved this series and Angry boys. We can be heroes was good too.
You should check out his "we can be heroes - Australian of the year" series - classic in my opinion 😎
Easily Chris Lilley's best work. There is no way the ABC would show it these days. Have a look at 7 Periods with Mr Gormsby. It's a New Zealand based series that was a joint venture between NZ tv and ABC. That's totally wild and also would never be shown on TV again,
I loved his first series - 'Australian of the Year' (I think). He played all roles of the nominees (including Jai'mee) but I thought his funniest one was a woman who had set world records for rolling lol. Cracks me up just to think of her.
EDIT - oh it was called 'We Can Be Heroes'
Ryan you have to look at Chris Lilleys Gran character. Lights vs Darks is a good starting point 👍
The kids were taught to keep a straight face for this, and generally, they did that extremely well.
He is pretty talented. He does music with some of his characters - one song which came from the drama teacher character actually become a hit and was constantly played on the radio.
His most controversial character was S.mouse but hilarious and like professional songs
I LOVE Mr G, he is the best
Chris Lilley is a genius a true Australian treasure. Mr G reminds me of someone from teachers College. He got into trouble with a South Sea Islander character....but they had a real Islander included in the skit. They think they made too much of a fuss about the political correctness. Oh this guy is sooooo talented.
I’m pretty sure that this series, Summer Heights High, wasn’t impromptu; I’d say it was very carefully created and written by Chris Lilley.
Pronounced, Ja May……oh how we love Chris Lilley 🎉
You might have picked up on this already Ryan, but, basically, Chris Lilley is a genius.
we need to expose ryan to Auntie donna, Australias Finest Improv Group
He was sooo popular i was sad when they tried cancelling him
J’aime was filmed at the high school in go to hahah
Watch Chris Lilley do Jen Okazaki - the mother of the skate board champion. Watch the deleted scenes- couldn’t stop laughing.
PLEASE do " Round the Twist " Best kids show ever !!!!
Haha, I would pay good money to see Ryan react to "Spaghetti Pigout"!
Angry Boys is my favourite Chris Lilley series, but Summer Heights High is by far the most iconic
Do round the twist!!!!
Chris Lilley is an absolute fuckin legend !!
Sadly Chris got cancelled because of the Jonah character. Personally, I think he's a genius.
He's back! All his shows are available on streaming again.
It was smouse
I think he's an absolute dick, glorifying that behaviour in teenagers.
@@jeanwilson717 That's great to hear.
I had to laugh, you knew who Chris Lilley was. You have to be genuinely scared. I get it. He's crazy, but as an Aussie, I'm a huge fan.
I flipping love Chris lilley. So sad he got cancelled.
Angry boys is my favourite. Seriously check out angry boys
Fun fact The kids are not actors, he actually would film at real high schools and just use regular kids from the high school. He came to my school to skout for a school, sadly he picked another here in Melbourne
Hahaha yea Chris 🤭
We could be heros was pretty funny to
dude, you HAVE to get onto Jonah from Tonga.... had his own show, and, my god, it was funny AF!!!!
I think he already has
The girl's name is pronounced Jar-main
you need to watch this all
some parts may not be pc now days
In case it went over your head, Australians call red heads 'rangas' short for orangatans.
Is it US or UK that call red heads ginger or ginge?
We used to call them "bluey" or "blue"
UK do. Watch “Vincent & the Doctor”, Doctor Who series 5, Ep 10.
Lol ... there's nothing else like it.
Appar there is...UK show, The Inbetweeners
You need to watch Angry Boys.
Can you imagine this being shown anywhere south of the Potomac or east of the Rockies? Certain state governors would probably die of a conniption fit. 😅
Chris Lilley's first series was We Can Be Heroes. He played 6 different characters in that one. As a normal person, he comes across as very quiet and unassuming
Yes, I can believe that.
Apparently, introverts make great actors because they tend to be repressed & can let it ALL OUT!!
You've gotta check out angry boys- gran
Woman can be bogans. Bogan is more just a type of person. Doesn't have to be a man.
One MIGHT argue that a bogan woman is EVEN MORE of a bogan than than a bogan man. 🤣
Yeah a bogan can be male or female or even a child.
Ryan, can you please do a reaction video to How to Talk Australians?
I think he has
Ohhhh cool I’ll have a look see
MORE CHRIS LILLEY DO ANGRY BOYS
It's pronounced 'JaMAY' ;)
React to Jonah from Tonga. He is by far his funniest character imo. Followed by Jaimie.
I think he has already
Check out Lunatics!! Btw bogans are both male and female.
Have you watched 'agro's cartoon connection and Russell couight?
He has. Check the channel
Check out Chris Willeys Angry boys m8
Chris lilley is SO SHY!
You'll never see an interview.
Or anything
You must try this. The show is called Fast Forward. The sketch is called Satan's Bride. I challenge you not to laugh.
Let me assure you that there is such a thing as a very Bogan woman, in fact they set the bar high.
Wait till you meet Nathan and Daniel from Dunt S'A.
Lilley is comic genius.
He demonstrates how far the ABC has fallen down the woke 1984 rabbit hole
Oh my god that's so quiche
