Corden was popular for a few years in the UK primarily for writing and acting in a show called Gavin and Stacey. He then kind of disappeared for a year or two before appearing out of nowhere in the states. We have no idea how or why but it seemed to really go to his head.

Most forget that Corden had to follow the greatest, off color, and very honest host ever, Craig Ferguson. He was the complete opposite of Corden. When Craig screwed up he would own up to it immediately in a humorous way that put everyone at ease. Ferguson's monologues about alcoholism, refusing to take cheap shots, and recognizing world events were some of the most well received moments ever. Ferguson also completely threw out the notion of trying to control and steer his interactions with guests and really did just try to have a good time with them, which they loved. The number of stars who appeared on his last episode opening montage is proof of that.
I think the network wanted to get rid of Ferguson's Legacy as quickly as they good and go back to controlling the narrative, which is why they hired Corden. Corden should've known he was being hired because he is a tool and that his boolsheet would be exposed.

I remember they were running through hosts for that show like an old man has to pee at night.
THey went through several of the BBtheory cast members, and some other people before James,
and he just happened to click well enough that CBS kept him. He got wildly lucky with Carpool, and that pretty much cemented his stay there, so long as he didn't cause TOO much trouble. Also his interview style pulling all guests out at once and letting them play off each other, (which is what Graham Norton does) is a somewhat unique and easy interview style compared to other US talk shows.

So long as Dave thought Craig was being interesting or funny he could do whatever he wanted. I love the comment "Everything you've said is true, every bad thing and I'm going to keep on doing it." The whole respect thing is actually pretty damn true. If these people would just come out and be like "Yeah, I'm a fucking asshole. I'm probably going to stay an asshole." People would hate them, but at least they'd earn that respect of telling the truth instead of lying about it and faking being a good guy to the public and a horrible shitheel in private. Like mama always says: Tell me the truth and I won't punish you bad, but if you lie to me, I'll spank that behind red!
But you get the gist. Doing a bad thing, but being honest about it, is seen as a more respectful thing, compared to lying about it. That's why people love Tony Stark. Dick to almost everyone, very rarely lies unless it's life or death. To take the words from MJF, "Yeah, I'm a scumbag, but I'm YOUR scumbag!" The difference between respectful hate, disrespectful hate and indifference/no fucks given.

The whole fat thing is wild. Ive always been a scrawny guy. Im 5'9" and have been 140-145lbs since 9th-10th grade or whenever puberty kicked in. Never had to try, always forcing food down to maintain weight. Getting older now, I have family with mobility issues and stuff, so they can easily put on a lot of weight and really have to watch their diet to avoid becoming obese (for example my uncle, ex military body builder who literally can't keep his weight in check because hes confined to a wheelchair now), but ive also been around absolute gluttonous pigs. Fat shaming in general is a bad thing, but when a 450lb dude comes to lunch break with 6x donuts, 2x gallons Turkey Hill Iced Tea, a pint of ice cream and 2x foot long hoagies... Im gonna say something, lmfao.
Honestly feel bad for Corden in a way, but he has indeed brought it upon himself. Obviously didn't get enough attention as a kid, or maybe was ostracized from the various cliques for being an annoying fat kid in school. Guy let his ego and the attention get to him early, then had no fucking clue where to even start to achieve some kind of graceful recovery. Just as Asmon was saying, if he would have just owned it.. 99% of the "issues" with him wouldn't even exist.

Maher is still absolutely clueless in every way that Trump and Biden are the exact same thing, as are both parties.
He cannot accept that Trump is not some prime evil or the worst thing ever and merely just another corporate president.

But I can appreciate he says it when so many don't
But yea, all of them are out of touch, and they don't care. Idt one is any different than another when it comes to politics and political parties. One may be better on an issue. But the real issue is....they probably are t being genuine they are manipulating, preying on the publics desire for change, or someone to speak up about this or that. They use it to manufacture consent. Because the only power the corporation known as the US has, is the belief by the ppl that it has power. The US corporation is separate from the government of the United States of America. And that corporation cares about what all corporations do. They will tell you what you want to hear while doing different things behind the scenes. The media focuses on the spectacle of right vs left and never discus the things ppl need to know, because the media companies understand their role in the corporate environment. Nepotism and perspective management is the name of the game. But they are losing the crown because they are so divorced from the reality most ppl experience, even tho I believe they are creating the divide intentionally. The corporate management vs the workers. What ppl think of as govt, is just the corporate structure set up to mimic the original govt of the USA. But because the masses don't know that, they think there is a difference between party's that matter and they are confused why the constitution doesn't seem to apply
