Wasted my whole life playing guitar and piano when this is what I should have been doing all along, better late than never ordered my first gurdy at 63 years old, feel like a kid at Christmas. A lot of fabulous gurdy players out there but Andrey just blows me away, he's a musical genius.
How’s it going? I thought about doing the same thing….
@@cryptoffilth8711 My question is just: where did he get it?
Getting a hurdy gurdy seems to be the biggest hurdle to playing one
I never even knew there was a sound like this until a few years ago. Kudos to you for being able to get one and play it. It’s like it speaks to me in my center.
Never a waste my friend playing lovely sounds is always well lived moment. I hope you enjoy the gurdy young man!
You should check out Guilhem Desq's music too! his album Visions has some of the coolest and most emotional music I've ever heard
When the 1/16th notes hit:
crowd cheering loudly
When the 1/32nd notes hit:
crowd yelling, losing their minds, head banging, pleading to their new hurdygurdy savior for salvation
And the Inquisitor throws another log on the pyre.
Hurdy gurdy is basically,
"Do you want a violin that sounds good.....and is also capable of providing the low end notes while playing melody and is also capable of being the percussion in a sense and is also easier to play than all of those instruments on their own?"
The original heavy metal.
Original is way better then :p
Даже лучше
Yeh but that so much soothing ...
Also worthy to note, this instrument was first played ik churches before the organ. The first heavy metal was played in church it seems.
I was thinking the same thing! It does sound a little like rock
Nothing better then a hurdy gurdy except an electrified hurdy Gurdy
I can't believe this instrument has been nearly lost to history! It is amazing! Thank you for giving it the justice it deserves through your skill!
It is truly exquisite to my ears and senses. I'm a newcomer to hearing the instrument and this is jaw dropping stuff to come upon. The artist is so accomplished and skillful, thank you, Audrey.
@@whalesong999 he *is* amazing, and don't call him Audrey. 😂😂
One reason why it has been largely forgotten for a few hundreds of years may be that it uses drone notes, which haven't been part of the European music scene for some time. But now they're coming back!
@@Krabadaque What is a drone note?
@EgE @Zarion 11 (From Wikipedia):
In music, a drone is a harmonic or monophonic effect or accompaniment where a note or chord is continuously sounded throughout most or all of a piece. The word drone is also any part of a musical instrument that is used to produce such an effect, as is the archaic term burden (bourdon or burdon)such as a "drone [pipe] of a bagpipe",the pedal point in an organ, or the lowest course of a lute.
This song is so atmospheric, yet it hits so hard at the same time... I love it.
I want to thank Sea of Thieves for making me realize the existence of such an amazing instrument, and then Andrey Vinogradov's channel for making it even more incredible than it already is! Thank you!
Wr41thx right! That's the first place I saw it, wasn't it. I completely forgot.
You should read more. Plenty of hurdy-gurdy references floating around in modern literature, from which almost each new game seems to suck their influences as it seems.
What?
@@Cd5ssmffan you heard right, the man plays sea of theives. Can we ever amount to his level of epicness? No.
(Jk sea of theives is great)
@@bigfergus2787 video games are for manchildren and kids
this is such a complex instrument for its time , truly fascinating
It's got a crank and a wheel, a resonator and some strings with some keys to push the strings. If christianity and monastery life didn't bring anything else to modern world, at least it brought hurdy-gurdy music and whole bunch of superb beers and ales.
@@sanakassara this instrument is not of Christian origin I think. In fact there are very few things "Christian in origin" in the whole time it has existed.
@@BlackMithrandir13 Hurdy Gurdy, aka Vielle à Roue originates supposedly from 1000 AD Spain and is claimed to have been developed in the northern catholic monasteries of the region. First appearances in christian countries like England, Poland, Hungary and Belarus are from the 12th century.
Finnish scholars seem to be quite sure of the origin, while rest of the world only seem to place it somewhere in 10th century Europe.
The instrument family is also known as Organistrum, which consisted similar instruments like the Vielle à Roue, but it also had instruments which were played by two people.
First appearances of the instruments are from 10th century christian iconography.
Here are couple of links for viewing the history.

@@sanakassara thankyou for the information. I will certainly read the material you linked and do more research. Funny how in this case my claim was wrong. I got so accostumed to Catholic culture being an amalgam from other cultures since it's creation that I tended to assume that position you see in my previous comment. However, this can just fall under those few things that are genuinely born in Catholic culture. Nonetheless, thankyou again.
@@sanakassara Catholic church doesn't have anything to do with Jesus Christ, they don't follow Jesus Christ. Catholic church like many others so called christian churches they don't obey what the bible says, they do what they want and disobey Jesus Christ.
Never thought hurdy-gurdy could have such an epic build-up and break-down. Absolute Banger
My god, this mans control over the instrument is simply amazing.
This is the most powerful music for meditation I've ever heard . The must astounding part is I've never meditated before in my life. No kidding.
Doesn't it take you to another place and time ~~°~~
I think I found the theme to my new D&D character.
What class?
The tune for a Bard me thinks? A charisma only heard and not displayed in slashing and bashing of glory but, instead a wave upon sound of tales and story once known and told now heard and heeded to. A most colorful collaboration of charismatic character and magical musics.
Sweet choice dude✌
This is gonna be what i use as background theme for a monastery in my future game for sure
Fuckin nerd lmao
I think Matt over at Critical Role should invite this guy over for season 3.
So freaking GOOD! I just *love* this instrument! It tickles all the right places in my brain, and brings out all those happy stims
The player is remarkable
And Behold! at 2:05 the People didst begin to Rock, and it was Good.
head banging :)
same!
I was sitting here listening, and then the beat dropped. Immediately, I was a medieval farmer at the local pub after a hard day's work, listening to this strange new thing called Music with Rocks In...
I swear I hear shades of Emerson, Lake and Palmer in here at different points. Rick Wakeman, too.
Also, if you want to "crank it up to 11'... listen to this at 1.25 speed.
3:20 was savage, amazing song and skill
The hurdy gurdy is honestly an incredible instrument, definitely my favorite string instrument and in the top 2 favorite instruments overall
What is instrument #1?
who even knew such an ancient instrument would be able to be this freaking amazing, then again it is this guy that made me wanna learn to play one along side a violin (violin was my own doing no one else's, i think it is a pretty sounding instrument)
Epoustouflant ! J'adore. 😍
Cela me fait penser au bagad breton, je ne connaissais pas, mais je suis en bretagne, d'où la comparaison.
Мое почтение... красота.
why does that sound so much like prog rock?
that instrument and the one who plays it are so awesome
My Lords...My Ladies...Boogie till you just st can’t Boogie no more!
Cleric: Bard, what instrument do you prefer when you're playing for folks at the local tavern?
Bard: The Hurdy Gurdy, naturally.
Fighter: What about when you want to play some marching music to keep the party going when they're fatigued?
Bard: The Hurdy Gurdy, of course.
Wizard: Well, what's the best music to listen to when you're plumbing the depths of the Arcane ether?
Bard: Honestly? Still the Hurdy Gurdy.
Barbarian: Ok, but what about when we finally meet our nemesis and you must motivate us to battle for the fate of the realm itself?
Bard: You're never going to believe this....
I was bestowed with a noble cause, embarked on a perilous quest, bedded many a maiden, slain many monsters and leveled up my mainhand while listening to this song.
Dude, that was so, so good. My god.
5:03 that takes it to a new level. That is awesome.

Великолепный инструмент в Умелых Руках Музыканта!!!!
if I had musical talent I found I would want to play one of these.
thankfully, you can replace talent with enough experience.
play it anyways
Knew nothing about the Hurdy-gurdy until I played Sea of Thieves. I fell in love with how it sounded in the game, so I started my search to find music featuring it. Came across Andrey’s channel and with his musical genius utilizing the instrument, I loved the Hurdy-gurdy even more. Despite it being an older video, this composition is still one of my favorites!
This is by far the most complex and technical Hurdy-Gurdy song i have ever heard. 10/10 liked and subscribed.
Check out guilhem desque
THANK YOU
Listen and feel god.
THANK You
I'm quite captivated on how the shade moves on the forearm depending which finger moves interstng for anatomical drawing purpose. XD
Vivi Fiente i completely agree. it's certainly a good study especially for realistic animations.
Vivi Fiente also, time to learn how to play a hurdy gurdy! I want to play the Fairytail battle theme on this
Haha, I looked at price cause yeah I wanted to learn too but It's quite expensive for me for the time being
Vivi Fiente Well...now I’ll never feel the same about arms again. My arms, your arms, his arms, everybody’s arms. All ruined...by you.
Thanks.

I Am In Awe...
Absolutely Stunning!
Although I was a little girl, I still remember the sing "The Hurdy Gurdy Man", by Donovan...
This is so beautiful!
this man is GREAT . . Master OF Hurdy-gurdy for sure . .
Truly unique instrument which somehow makes Russian song sound absolutely authentically European.
Daniel Rozovsckiy lol all slavs are Indoeuropean. In fact their music is likely the most european since Europe adopted the dodecatonic wich is result of the influence from christianity's filosofic aesthetics and ethics.
yes, as i thought too . :-)
I may be retarded, but wasn't Russia founded by Scandinavian "traders" traveling the river system back and forth to Byzantium?
@@cjanon305 Russians before the Scandinavian arrived already had tribal unions, simply because of the internal internecine strife, the most advantageous option for the organization was to invite foreigners who would not be connected with internal conflicts between clans acting as an arbiter without blood relationship
The problem is that the Rurik family was in power when the Rus received writing, and the chroniclers, to give authority to the family of rulers, greatly hyperpolized their role in creating the state
My God...…….This is so good ! I get freaking goosebumps listening to this :D
Omg i love this instrument it sounds so good an you can play wery good
Awwww shit bro.... this ia my jam. Probably one of the crispest Hurdy ive heard. You keep her very well and play her like a pro.
This song makes me want to run across a green field wearing a yellow speedo and a blue scarf.
That is weirdly specific. Has that combination a specific meaning to you?
i like it when it makes the noise
Andrey I listen to this multiple times a week. Is this original composition? It's becoming one of my favorite songs. Also how much was your instrument it's sound is resonant and strong. It's very impressive
This guy is amazing. I've listened to other play and most just crank the thing hard to, what seems to be, just to prove that they can get the buzz, but he can match the rhythm as well.
This sounds like it would fit for the Witcher 3 soundtrack
Sounds like something I'd hear in a heated game of gwent
Im almost sure it was used in few tracks :)
most of the soundtrack of witcher 3 is played using this instrument
@@hackermis i don't think it was. I've watched many behind the scenes videos. They included many shots of the instrumental recordings and they never had a Gurdy
@@thelionneverroars1570 Not most, but there are a couple of soundtracks in Blood and Wine that use this instrument, the one that comes to mind is the Mandragora.
How in the flacid flappy bird dongs have i missed this wonderful sounding tune for 3 years? Majestic as ever Andrey thank you for your music!
And thus the youtube recommendation gods have graced me with this treasure, and as for the creator of this treasure, I thank you

Increible
Beautiful. Majestic
Absolutely loved this, the build up then the way it kicks in.. Excellent! Definitely buying me one of these.
Makes me wanna play D&D with this in the background.
Beautiful track Andrey! Very interesting composition, great skill, grand atmospheric ambience, loved it, nice grace notes and percussive elements.
Been listening to your Hurdy Gurdy songs... this is the best so far! really cool!
WOUAW ! Great ! thank you
Great song. This belongs in a film...

Another masterpiece Master!! Thank soo much for you art!!! Grettings from Almeria, Spain!
Excellent playing. Beautiful sound. Wow
That was absolutely incredible. I've just downloaded the album!
This rocks better than any music I've heard in 20 years. Rock is coming back from the dead by way of traditional and historic folk instruments. CZcams has been great for listening to real music. I love it.
Looks like i just found new ambience/combat music for my pirate dnd campaign. Cheers man

A Truly Remarkable Sound.
This sounds amazing and this is the most interesting instrument that have seen so far
This song is a masterpiece
Ive been playing string instruments for 56 years. Ive got to get one of those. Amazing sound. Turning drone and percussion strings on and off, way to cool!
WONDERFUL !
I genuinely got lost in that. Mesmerising and wonderful, thank you.

Such a quirky name for a badass instrument.
there is something like 26 known configs and it has various names
Whats the name?
blown away.... seriously . And the history of this instrument says that it fell out of popularity back in the day and was only associated with poor and beggars...how??? I could listen to this all freakin day! Im a metal head and im sitting here bobbing my head to this, then when i look up and see what the guy is actually doin...just blown away,

A big thank you to the man behind the music, truly a master of his instrument and I can’t state that enough truly brilliantly executed performance
I would spend my paycheck to buy tickets to one of his concerts. The drone alone makes my phone screen vibrate.
