  • The Xbox 360 released back in 2005 with a much different look that what we ended with. These Blade systems are hard to find since most of them have been updated, but today I wanted to take a look at one and even restore it back to working condition.

Everyone copies Nintendo, and they always will. Nintendo had the first dpad, the first diamond face button pattern, the first shoulder buttons, the first analog stick, the first 2 stage triggers, the first 1st party wireless controller (Wavebird), First motion controller, first hybrid console. Whether you like it or not, Nintendo drives and shapes the video game market similar to how Apple shapes the cell phone market.

Xbox 360 is still my favorite home console of all time. Halo 3 ❤️ Ive owned many consoles from Atari all the way to current Gen (about 23 in total). IMO the Xbox 360 is one of the best consoles ever. The 360 is what pulled me completely away from PC gaming. I always had a console and PC until I got a 360 and no longer felt the need for a PC. I’m sure that’s blasphemy to a lot of people 😂

Greatest games from the era halo 3, oblivion, gears of war, mass effect 1, and bioshock 1 was the sweet spot of the generation before they started going crazy with dlc back then they were usally full game expansions shivering isles anyone.

They definitely tanked the dashboard performance with the NXE update, which was... unfortunate. You can still get back to this dashboard version with current JTAG/(S)RGH mods if you wanted to (with the EFUSE security completely bypassed now). Checking the capacitors and changing the thermal paste on these older models is a good idea
With decent "AAA" games, arcade games, indie games, and demos the 360 was definitely a gamer-first console, as _game_ consoles should be. Even the media center integration and local picture/video streaming capabilities were good
The RRoD situation was pretty unlucky for M$ though -$1,000,000,000 😐

I loved the blades dashboard the best , because:
    1. It was the smoothest to navigate (I think , can't fully remember , since it was so long ago. I think bringing up the side blade while in the game was probably a little sluggish. But outside gameplay , I'm pretty sure I rememberin the dashboard itself, switching between each blade was smooth and snappy)
    2. The least advert intrusive ( Every version of the dashboard after they got rid of the blades kept on adding more adverts , making switching between menus more and more sluggish , especially when they added Avatars too )
I think maybe just one banner on the marketplace blade was there and maybe a few more if you actually enter the marketplace itself. (Hard to remember since it's so long ago) But overall compared to the newer dashboards , almost no advertising in general.
3 . All your old themes still fit it. (None of the old themes really fit the newer dashboards , which kind of makes me regret spending money on old themes , since they no longer fit the new dashboard as well . They started introducing premium themes instead , which fit their new dashboards perfect , but cost more, although they are more pretty)
    4. No need for Avatars (Another thing that kind of cluttered the processing and loading of the dashboard . Especially on the screen when other friends avatars are loading too)
Too bad there was no option to switch back to the blades dashboard though.

I first got my 360 around 2009, so a few years after it came out, and by then the Blades UI had been replaced. I got the 360 used and it came with Halo 3 ODST, which was my first Halo game. I had tons of fun playing split-screen games (Halo, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty, Castle Crashers, Peggle, Forza, Minecraft, Terraria, etc.) with my friends and family, and I'm really glad Microsoft has been so serious about backwards compatibility recently, because it's really nice to able to play some of your favorite games on newer hardware. It makes me wish that Sony would develop PS3 emulation for PS5, but I doubt that will ever happen sadly. I'd love to check out what games PS3 had back then, because I only had a 360 and Wii.

So many fond memories with the blades Xbox. I was late to Xbox Live. Later than my friends. I had a GameFly subscription so I racked up some serious gamerscore for the time. It was around 8,000. My friends didn’t believe me so I took a picture with my Samsung Rant to show them at school. Then I finally got Xbox live and got the NXE update and got to make my avatar for the first time. Got my first 360 July of 2008. It has the Falcon motherboard revisions, and came with the blades dash, so only got to use it for a few months before the updated Dashboard was pushed.
Lots of good memories of that dashboard.
That 360 still operates to this day, but I have had to change out thermal paste, and a failing laser.
I have probably more hours of use on that 360 than any other game console I've ever owned.

I remember getting the Xbox 360 many years ago at Christmas with the detachable HDD which was bundled with Call of Duty 3 and Gears of War. I thought the design of the console was quite cool and thought that it was awesome that it utilised wireless controllers straight out of the box. I also remember when I had fired up Gears of War for the first time thinking the graphics were amazing. It's a shame those models were particularly plagued by the infamous red ring of death.
Now I have an Xbox Series X and it's amazing looking at how far the Xbox has come along since then.

I bought one of the original white launch 360s way back at the end of '05. It worked well for a long long time and then sometime and I'm going to say 2014 or something like that it started getting very loud and quite hot I really need to work on it cuz I have a lot of games still on it.
I still love that thing all this time later.

Dude holy shiiii that's literally my old 360. This entire video I was thinking about how I had never connected my 360 to the internet back in the day so the Blade UI was all I ever knew. But my 360 had that EXACT big black smudge on the side panel that this one has. I'm 99.99% sure that this is my old 360 that my ex step dad stole in 2010ish and pawned or did whatever with.

Got my first Xbox 360 in 2006 with a copy of Crackdown as my first game. I miss the blades dashboard as even the system sounds alone when scrolling takes me back to those early days of just being in awe that I actually had a 360 as I was only in 6th grade & was one of the first out of all my friends.

Man I wish I had gotten to experience the blades dash back in the day. I didn't get mine till early 2010 with the NXE dash. I really liked the NXE dash cause it was still sorts colorful, just not as much as the blades. Then the ugly bland modern UI came out and I never did like it.

I had the 360. The eject button was loose and it was vibrating like crazy when the disc drive was running. It was louder than the drive itself and the fan combined. If you wanted to avoid that, you had to leave the sticker linking the drive's tray and the button together on. That's right. It was such trash that they were using a sticker to try and make it less garbage.

Man I use to have the wood grain background on the blade UI and I loved it! Never had a red ring on the original Xbox 360 but my disc drive got so hot when I first got it that it started to basically melt my disks which Microsoft refused to replaced and instead offered me perfect darkness a $20 game at the time for $120 worth of disks good times.

I thinks major pirate vulnerability of early fat x360 wasn't in dashboard but disc drives. Which had unprotected access to firmware. Last fat disc drive had same protections against that but after year or two was cracked.

I got a Launch Day 360 that has the very first blades dashboard and it was hardly ever used. No RROD ever in it's life, still has the sticker on the front meaning its never been opened. It works flawless and I use it all the time to play music ( I dont play games on it because it will overheat) and I use it with precautions (Plenty of air, on it's side, etc) it's a Xenon

I camped outside of my local BestBuy 24 hours before they launched the 360. My friend Corey and I were second and third in line and had taken time off work to guarantee we got one, since we hadn't pre-ordered and availability was pretty sketchy. The hype was unreal & the day spent in line was actually pretty rad.
Everyone was playing local multi-player Mario Kart DS since that had just came out and we all kept ordering pizzas and binging caffeine.
    Those were the days ;)
