  • On November 28, 2018 the Pepperdine, School of Public Policy hosted its annual Patricia Tagliaferri Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series. We were honored to welcome keynote speaker Dennis Prager, radio talk show host and founder of PragerU.
Prager's newest book, released in April 2018, is the first of his five-volume Bible commentary entitled, The Rational Bible: Exodus - God, Slavery and Freedom. While many people may think the Bible, the most influential book in world history, is outdated Prager's explanation of the Book of Exodus, the second book of the Bible, will demonstrate that the Bible is not only powerfully relevant to today's issues, but completely consistent with rational thought.

What a great commentary. Mr. Prager is correct... Knowing the Torah will make one a better Jew, a better Christian or a better secular person. It takes effort to love God. Mr. Prager makes logical sense.

My dad has got to be in Heaven despite all of his faults. Someone ask me, "If you could sit on a park bench and speak to him again, would you do it?" I ask, "Which father? The young one or my Alzhiemer's father I had to care for, who became combative and violent every afternoon?" With all the crazy in the world now, I will take that park bench comversation with either one.

I am in love with the book of Leviticus! It's the best book to teach Christians to how to be a Christian. As Peter tells us as obedient children we are to be holy because the one who called us is holy, as it is written, "You shall be holy because I am holy, says the LORD." It's directly quoted from Leviticus, which is said several times. It's the book to teach us holiness and how to be holy in all our behavior. I can't wait for the release of Pragers Leviticus commentary.

What a wonderful and wise speeech. It brought tears in my eyes. I am from Germany. Just yesterday i thought about my grandparents who livesd during WWI and WWII and fought. My parents were young kids, when WWII endedy. My Parents and my grandmother, who was living, when i was born, never talked about war, never talked about their experiences with war. My Mother told me in her 70's, that it was painfull enough, even after the war. I don't blame them for not talking about war, because they were traumalized. But i think they traumalized us, their children. So they can't gave us the strength to live a fearful live in god. We the children hadn't the choice to advantage from their experiences. Today i know there was great lack of strength in my younger years. Nevertheless today i know my grandparents never gave up life, love, faith and hope, and that makes me very proud because of my grandparents and parents. And now in my 60's i have the strength to live in these times. Yesterday i had those thoughts and today i find this wonderful speech. I thank you very much Dennis prager and i thank god for leading me to this speech.

@Sam Covington The "Fact Checking" for contradictions in the bible does not mean there are contradictions in the bible. It may imply the writers either did not understand the bible, or had a predetermined agenda to find the bible self contradictory. Even Maimonides who was a great Dr. & scientist not only at his time, said: "If you think the bible contradicts science then you either don't understand the bible or you don't understand science."
The fact you don't like the bible is your choice. The real question here is: whether you think learning the bible is essential or not. From the content you wrote I deduct you will choose the latter, and that you don't really like Dennis Prager, although you didn't quite write it. Well maybe you only like his humorous rhetoric.

"The impression one has now is that the debate has settled down. Although they do not seem to admit it, the minimalists have triumphed in many ways. That is, most scholars reject the historicity of the 'patriarchal period', see the settlement as mostly made up of indigenous inhabitants of Canaan and are cautious about the early monarchy. The exodus is rejected or assumed to be based on an event much different from the biblical account. On the other hand, there is not the widespread rejection of the biblical text as a historical source that one finds among the main minimalists. There are few, if any, maximalists (defined as those who accept the biblical text unless it can be absolutely disproved) in mainstream scholarship, only on the more fundamentalist fringes."

If you haven't trusted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, TODAY is the day of your Salvation, please accept your free gift that was purchased and paid for the sins of the whole world.
Romans 6:23 kjb - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
      The Gospel (the good news)!!
Salvation is not your 'good works', 'religion' or 'rituals', it's God's Work On The Cross. Religion says you have to do something. Jesus Christ said, "IT IS FINISHED".
Jesus Christ is God, manifest in the flesh and He came on earth to die for our sins. He bore our sins on the cross of Calvary. Have you accepted His free gift of Salvation? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour? Have you truly BELIEVED from your heart that Jesus Christ is LORD? Have you BELIEVED in the death, burial and resurrection found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KING JAMES Bible? That's how a lost soul can get saved. Remember that it's NOT what we do that gets us saved, it's what Jesus Christ DID on the cross of Calvary, that's what SAVES a lost soul.
Ephesians 1:13 KJB - SAVED and SEALED until the day of redemption.
Ephesians 2:8-9 KJB - 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Take this opportunity and please accept your free gift of ETERNAL LIFE now because time is running out. Please get saved before it's too late for your soul!!
John 3:18 kjb - He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Heaven and Hell are REAL, LITERAL places.
There's ONLY 1 Eternity to choose from, Heaven or Hell, choose wisely for your soul!!

Thanks, Pepperdine University and the School of Public Policy for posting this wonderful video which I think contribute so much to true education in America and add so much value to every family in our country!
~My comments are directed to Dennis: I like you, Dennis Prager, I am 100% sure we, all Christians love you and I am positive of the fact that the whole Christian community at least in USA thanks God for your life and commitment and we all pray to God to give you a long-lasting and productive life doing what you do and influencing the world in the values of God's ways and morals!
~So my comments from a loving heart are: Dennis when you say: "You love The Tora more than you love God", (we too can say the same) which is perfectly fine to me because it is God's first manifestation and revelation to humans, but for Christians Jesus Christ is tantamount to bibliolatry, the logos of the scriptures, from the Genesis. Many of God's communications by means of the prophets announced him and prepared his people for the "unbelievable", the coming of a Mesias. Someone whom his people could identify themselves with as they would be liberated from the burden of the Wonderful Law that by God's love would help our human nature stay out of trouble and still does. But still being slaves of our sinful nature, God himself needed and wanted to connect with his people in an unprecedented way and LOVED the World in a way they would understand if they were just able to set aside strict religious believes and traditions!
After all Jesus Christ came to fulfill, not to abolish!
~When you say I have my issues with God, I understand you; I know you love God! From time to time we humanly think the same way; So much suffering? etc. But Jesus didn't come to end suffering, not yet (Jesus even said the poor you will ALWAYS have among you), but to "demonstrate" to us the Great Love of the father and to attract generations to come towards him for everlasting salvation; after all, God is and become whatever he decides to be, because He is of spiritual nature; for me is spiritual dimension! . . . So a clear answer to the suffering and why God might look not responsive to it could have many theological explanations, but deepening into Jesus Christ PRE-and post prophesies and Jesus Christ life, death, and resurrection may shed new information and fresh answers to that and many other questions!
Thank you for your teachings! I have learned a lot watching PragerU, and many other videos where you are in. WE NEED YOU! America needs you!
Dennis, I am always learning, so if you think there are other things, non public information, or any information that as a God loving person I should know, please direct me to it: davinciandres35@gmail.com

1:07:28 As a native of Southern California who now lives in OKC, OKC's weather is actually quite nice. We get almost as much sunshine every year as SoCal, summers are sometimes muggy but the winds take the sting out of the humidity, it snows every year but seldom enough to shovel it. The tornado threat in Oklahoma is exaggerated--in reality, tornadoes are becoming less and less common in OKC and DFW while places like Nashville and Birmingham are having more and more tornadoes.

@LostXProphet23 The Bible says people who work on Saturdays should be tortured to death. What is wise about that? It says a man can sell his daughter as a sex slave. What's wise about that? God orders the slicing open of the bellies of pregnant women. What is wise about that?

Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry in order somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous, and thus save some of them. For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead? If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.
But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God's kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off. And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again. For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.

And I wish Dennis Prager would comment on the greatest sin in the Torah compared to the New Testament where Jesus says that to offend the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, but offending Jesus or His Father will.

I have watched this as an atheist. I am quite impressed. I have studied the bible decades ago, and I did not get this understanding from it. Just the bit about "don't murder" is illuminating. But so much more.
One of my adult kids no longer talks to me, so you have hit a major chord there.
I am also surprised that, even with over 90 thousands views, not one comment.

Always love hearing Dennis he brings such insights into every discussion and debate its a pleasure to hear. One thing that made me wonder was when he said that he loved the word more than God. What made me wonder was how you could separate God from His Word the two are one because God will not contradict His Word ever in essence God is His Word to love the one and not the other makes no sense.
