For those confused: This is from a tabletop game called Vampire: The Masquerade, which takes place in a setting called the World of Darkness, populated with a variety of supernatural creatures lurking just outside of humanity’s sight. This story itself is about the origin, abilities, and, (if you are a “Noddist”) eventual demise of Vampires.
The story of the three angels describe three weaknesses of vampires (fire, light, and dependence on blood/inability to eat regular food). The Crone story explains Blood Bonding (how vampires create ghoul servants) and how Staking puts Cainites into Torpor. Throughout all the stories are explanations for vampiric superpowers, or “disciplines” (Potence (super strength), Celerity (super speed), Obfuscate (invisibility), Dominate (Simple command mind control), Presence (Emotional control), etc.)
In the Progeny section, a number of other WOD creatures are mentioned; the wild ones are changelings/the fae (from Changeling: The Dreaming), the Moon Beasts are Werewolves (from Werewolf: The Apocalypse), Spirits are Wraiths (from Wraith: the Oblivion), and the Awakened are Mages (from Mage: The Ascension).
Most of this is from the perspective of Caine, but it shifts throughout. Toward the end in particular, we hear from a number of different founders of vampire lineages (Malkav, Brujah, Gangrel, Nosferatu, etc)
This is a really good reading; I wish this guy had other stuff on this channel, but I’m glad he at least did this before disappearing.

Oh… I had this book in the 90s. That and a few of the clan books. Some of my friends contributed art to the main Vampire the Masquerade book, and I think a few in the Lasombra book.

An old college friend of mine "contributed" as well (i.e. her art was stolen but no harm done,lol) and one of my childhood friends was an initial playtester. This game was way different than the D&D and Warhammer40K we were used to.
The way you read the book makes it seems like verses from the books of the bible that were removed due to revealing the truth. Like me made me feel like I was reading from my father's Holy Bible when he would read the book.

And it seems like even if he had read it at a less desirable pace, that is really the words that help to describe the things that seem like The Bible has left out, or at least that plausible storyline, because Kane was killed by lamek later than this story would hold..

@@michelletillman6232 From what i have read is that the Bible has had many revisions over the centuries, and each revision had more scriptures and Psalms removed. From what I have read is the bible already existed for tens and hundreds of thousands of years to serve as a library for human history and the gifts that reside in our DNA. And that there were books like the bible across the world that told of the gifts, history and genealogy of those peoples in those regions. But when the Roman Catholic Church started to expand across the globe; the first thing that they went after is the knowledge. Because these original books did not serve the purpose of the Catholic Church, they were removed and burned. I remember reading from a journal of a conquistador that while they were raping and pillaging; they burned mountains and mountains of scrolls, and stone tablets. Hundreds of thousands of years of information; gone and lost to fire. It sends a shiver down your spine.
This is fiction, written for a tabletop rpg, within the tabletop, many vampires see Cain as their sort of prophet, and the first vampire, the book of nod is effectively the bible of those vampires, this is a lorebook for the fictional world made by white wolf known as the world of darkness.
The amount of people that do not realize that this is fictional lore written for a tabletop rpg game is astounding.

The line of Caine and Seth are presented almost like a third, neutral faction in the Heavenly War. They are a third thing between the Angels above and Demons below, strangely blessed and cursed at the same time. See around 38:30
Caine's advice is pretty moderate, focusing on gaining wisdom and staying safe in a world of supernatural threats, not conquering and harming either Angels or Demons, but sustaining their own houses. It's interesting that he explicitly forbids that the mortal followers of his childer should not worship them as gods.

Who is ever asking the question what creature God is? Note that it wasn't 'The One Above' but Cain's father Adam who cursed and exiled him which would make it easy to believe that The One Above was at least not unhappy with the sacrifice.

The section on diablerie is interestingly specific forbidding taking the blood of "thine own elder" and "thy sire's sire"
It says nothing about feeding from any kindred of the same age or younger and possibly not even of feeding from a kindred who is not dirrectly in linage with you (especially if they are not of the same clan)
An interesting loophole for someone bold enough (or desperate enough) to argue.
One of my Tremére characters successfully diablerized an older Gangrel... and Caine hasn't seemed to smite me yet :D

I love to think about the Book of Nod as a collection of myths written specifically by ancient vampires to hide and distort the truth. All Caine's "commandments", or at least most of them, would then be brainwashing by the elders to protect themselves. The intetesting part would also be that the myths have a grain of truth in them, one just has to see through the lies and mystification to get it.

A very interesting work of legend making. This was created as a supplement to the Vampire the Masquerade game. Some modern vampire groups have adopted it into their ritual magic, along with its companion volumes, The Ericyes Fragments and Revelations of the Dark Mother. I find it useful as long as the use is approached from the base knowledge that it was originally written as fiction.

The fact that all the hierarchy and the elite classes are largely horrible pieces of shit is part and parcel of any "punk" type experience. It's a credit to the writing that this comes across so strongly that even people with none of the context, who stumble upon this and might even think it is an actual non-canonical piece of scripture get this feeling.

This is Paradox themselves that has said it and it is only talks about how a world of darkness movie/tv univers could look like. But hay, it is something

My life evolved around W.O.D Mage & masquerade novels, I never got into the game like I did with D&D earlier in life but read those manuals/books for more info, I had to troll libraries for The Winnowings part 2 & 3. In the 2000s the novels stopped comming , there was the Dark Ages series but they were lacking something, The Lasombra, Bruja and other trilogy sets, vamp & mage novels were great. A series about Lucita from Lasombra would rock these shows today. I like to imagine she is still alive there wasn't a finality to her presumed ending
It would be so woke we'd be rooting for the hunters best leave it until good story telling returns I really don't want to root for the tower and the catholic church.
This was incredible. The poetry of the writing magnificent. The orator' s voice, spell-binding. What an interesting twist on the murder of Cain. If anyone has ever read, ' Did Eve Have Sex With the Devil?', it maintains that one of the twins was Adam' s seed, and the other, Cain, of the devil' s seed. If Cain was the debil' s seed them he would have a twisted nature, a twisted mind. Interesting to put that together with Cain' s story in this book.
The first and second books of Adam and Eve are interesting. They give a lot more details. If you want a better translation of the scriptures, check out The Aramaic Targums. Eve specifically says she had gotten a child by an angel. I think its Sammael. Anyhow, Aramaic was the original record of the scriptures, as the Israelites lost the Hebrew when they were taken to Babylon. Enoch is a fantastic read as well, it will tell you the true nature of the world, not this NASA nonsense we are deceived by!
Cain was not of Adam. Cain was not of the one called the devil. But the mission was to replenish the Earth by there children blending with the childern of Earth. The devil convinced Eve to have sex with one of Earth. Making a blend that much faster. Not the mission of having there children starting the blend. Not of GOD'S PLAN.

So that god loved the smell of burning flesh and hated vegetables , so cain sacraficed the one he loved the most to please the god but still that god wasn’t happy. So apparently nothing cain did for that god was never pleasing to him.

You guys bring up some very good points . There is the theological record of events based on the biblical narrative and there is the fictional writing that lends framework to books film and games. In my opinion it's always good to know where the story originates . Adam and eve in the Bible narrative is a good place to start if you want to know where Caine and Able came from. The downside to not knowing the true history of a literary subject means the children that play the games or read the fictional books will not have the full picture and history of what it's based on.
