How will people ever be able, years from now, when kids are grown and gone from home, be able to go through and enjoy the tons of artwork, crafts, birth outfits, special toy or stuffed animal, photos, awards, etc. Life moves on for us and them. We get grandchildren and their parents (our kids) start the whole process again. Eventually it all ends up in the landfill. We had a storage box of memorabilia from our kids and grandkids stored away, never looked at. I gave it to our son, he didn’t even look in it and placed it in their storage unit. Lots of people won’t agree with me but that’s ok. We are all different and that’s good. Donna

You make me want to organize, though I am fairly organized now. My kids are all grown up.... so simpler now. I raised 7 kiddos in about 1300 square feet, so organization was essential. Now, I make it pretty, then it was definitely function over form. Question - Are you Team Finn now? I know you would never be negative towards an animal , but I remember that you were not voting for a puppy 🐾 Has your heart been stolen?

This was a very thorough in depth home tour, it's been a while since you've done one. Your home is truly one of my favorites of the channels I subscribe to. I love the style, the layout and how you have it decorated and organized. The home is such a perfect fit for your family. You've made all the areas work nicely for the needs of your family and day to day life. You are an accomplished homemaker, love your family and life and it shows.
Your home is truly a cozy, welcoming place. The upside down box spring is genius! As I think through what that would have been like for me as a child or my daughter when she was young, I’m reminded of when Harry Potter, in the last book, had to clean out his trunk after several years at Hogwarts. The treasures one might find. 😊
I love organization! The two areas I noticed the biggest change in as my daughters’ became teens and young adults (besides their shared bedroom), were the bathroom drawers and cabinets, and the family coat closet. Many more items were naturally added to the mix. Even in the kitchen, as they’d want their own favorite items they used. Starting out super organized sure helped.

Great organization Hilary! I have been purging from all areas of our home the past year and it feels good to bless others with items we no longer need or use or wear. I keep a basket in my car trunk to put the books I finish to pass on to a friend or to donate. Take care.

Very good. I love all your children's books. My kids were the same way, as a matter of fact, as they grew into adulthood they'd ask me to keep certain books, and I still have them, for when I will eventually have grandchildren. I also love to read, so that apple didn't fall far from the tree.
My kids didn't have a lot of toys either, as you said they had each other(four of them) and an imagination. And we liked to do things like take hikes or nature walks, or go to our town park . They did have a wooden train track and accessories, and they also had "figurines" like Batman they like to pretend and play with.
The fewer the toys, the more they appreciate each one for sure, and of course, the books! 💛

I've always wondered how well does the screened bottom of the wall unit let heat through. I've been with you for so long since you only had Evie. I am continually amazed at the quality and topics of your videos. You always come up with fresh ideas.
Thanks so much for following along! Life is constantly evolving, that's for sure, and we grow and change along with it. The vented area works very well, and then the baseboard heater ends under the computer area which is completely open and accessible.

Wow amazing! Thanks for the video! We live in probably a similar sized house but we have very minimal built in storage, so have had to be creative with pieces of furniture that double as storage! Got a few idea from this video of how to better store and organize to serve the family well! 😃

I loved this video. I haven’t watched your videos for a while due to very serious and sad medical issues in our family. Life is hard and day to day strength only comes from the Lord. All that is said because for me, organization, de- cluttering and beauty helps me to get through each day. I have always liked your philosophy…you don’t have unnecessary extras. The children have manageable toys and crafts to put away ( I can see you have a lot of creative things for them). You are inspiring and so wise for being so young.
One thought I have as I watch this video is that my daughter’s life would be so much better if she could get organized but it is not a priority for her at all. My example certainly did not “ rub off” on her and I now know there is nothing I can do to change her so it makes me sad. I have to let that go. Sorry for the diversion…. Your home is a dream home to me. ( and I know it is not without work). Thank you for making this video. 🥰

You have a really beautiful home. Indeed it really is inspirationally beautiful. Your styling, use of colour & decor is absolutely stunning. The way you & Dan have refurbished your home, utilised pre-owned items, and made use of space is masterful. Your ability to only have things you need or love is an example I'm so delighted to emulate. The only thing is, I'm not sure by a lot of standards I would call your home particularly small, though? For example, it seems pretty average or even on the larger (but not large) size by UK standards. A basement is a real rarity here in the UK. In fact, I wish homes were built with basements as that would increase the square footage hugely. I suppose I also think of a home, including any outdoor space or out buildings. So while you have a beautiful home, I'm not sure I'd ever think of it as a small home?

Haha... the bin of perpetual charity! Love it. I keep a bin in my car trunk and put things in it til its full. Then a quick drive by at my local thrift store and its ready for more donations. I know how important it is to be organized in a small home. I have been in my small 1,148 sq ft , 3 bedroom home for 52 years this year. But it has served us well. Now its just me and still works. One bedroom is a sewing room and one is a quest room, bedsides the master bedroom and bath. Loved all your tips.

Kids' School Memory Boxes: I did a K-3 box for each of my kids...when they moved out, it went along with them...!
I kind of miss the videos where you would be on camera and update us and then move to a task and then update. That worked really well, imo. I am grateful for anything you do, but since you went to the one day a week, I'm not as quick to click. I am probably the only one who feels this way but things feel a bit less personal or something. I can't fully put my finger on it.

@@OldWorldHome I don’t think it’s that the number of uploads has changed, per se, but more something in the presentation seems less personal or something. I’m very partial to your vlogs…my goodness, it all looked so effortless and the way you presented a bit or this and a bit of that--felt cozy. Not many people can achieve that in this space, imo. Your transitions from one thing to another were excellent and I was always like, how did she do this? It all just worked.
All this to say, we are all very lucky to have you still here and creating what you can. You do have such a gift.
Yeah it felt like we are there with her like hanging out with a friend casually in real time.... its a lot more formal and "proper" now but still lovely to watch :)

I grew up in a home that was about 1300 sq ft with 8 people. My Mom managed to keep things organized and taught us to do the same. I still don’t know how we managed with one bathroom. There were 5 girls and then my brother. Our house was always tidy and all of us had chores. You are doing a great job.

Most of the house is Sherwin Williams Anew Gray, boys room and bathroom are BM Horizon Gray (definitely more of a green)
