    Regarding the #LDOMotors resonance results, there actually is a difference which is easy to overlook as the graphs are dynamically scaled (check the numbers on the left side). At 6:52 the graph shows the peak at 3.0 for the 0.9° motor and 3.3 for the 1.8° motor, or an increase in 10%. At 7:45 the graph shows the peak at 0.975 for the 0.9° stepper and 1.075 for the 1.8° stepper, also showing a 10% increase.
    Edit: I subscribed and upvoted after posting, hope that isn't filtered out by whatever algorithm is being used for selection. :)

    thanks Vez! really glad LDO has established a good reputation and we have more and more distributors of reliable, high performance motors. very useful to have a go to supplier and your tests are really valuable. quite surprising results. for a long time everyone was convinced you absolutely had to have 0.9ers for a corexy, but clearly not. happy that all my older motors aren't disgraceful trash in that regard, even if i can't get the same speeds with them. great work #LDOMOTORS !

    I have to agree, the .9 didn’t have any meaningful advantage that could be readily seen.
    I think that since you’ve got such a well-tuned printer, there wasn’t anything to gain, and I expect that motor is not the limiting factor for quality. For speed, that also as I expected: less frequent steps means more power and thus speed and acceleration.

  • @jamespray
    @jamespray Před 2 lety +3

    #LDOMotors ! Appreciate the head-to-head testing. I've been getting great results from my 42BYGHM810 0.9's, partly because they have a very low phase inductance of 1.8mH, so my jaw definitely hit the floor to see both of these only have 1.5mH! I think that might be the lowest I've ever seen. The rotor inertia is a little high at 85ish, but I'm not sure how much impact that has. Not surprised by the performance results since they have the same phase inductance, meaning the 0.9 will generate twice the back EMF. You'd have to have a pretty bangin' extrusion solution before either choice became your performance bottleneck at 48V, though! The quality comparison was also interesting - both motors get artifacting in certain speed ranges, just different speed ranges. I expected CoreXY to show more difference, but it seems good motors make more difference for this motion system than the steps per mm. I definitely noticed a difference on my delta going from 1.8 to 0.9, but I also stepped up motor quality in the transition and changed boards from 8 to 32-bit at the same time, so I never got a chance to A/B just the stepper impact. Changing motors would be a pain, but if I win some 1.8 LDO's, I'll totally run a head-to-head!

    As usual great job Simon! I love my #LDOMotors in almost finished Vz330. These 1.9s would be a nice addition to my upcoming build of MiniVz based on Ender3 bed. Best regards.

    Really surprised that the 0.9deg motor didn't perform better in terms of print quality. I was hoping that the little bumps on the surface would be reduced with the supposed "smoother" stepping.
