Regarding the #LDOMotors resonance results, there actually is a difference which is easy to overlook as the graphs are dynamically scaled (check the numbers on the left side). At 6:52 the graph shows the peak at 3.0 for the 0.9° motor and 3.3 for the 1.8° motor, or an increase in 10%. At 7:45 the graph shows the peak at 0.975 for the 0.9° stepper and 1.075 for the 1.8° stepper, also showing a 10% increase.

The quality of your videos is getting better and better! Having you talk in front of the camera makes the video feel more connected.
that was a big step for a shy guy like me. Im still shy everytime I do it hehehe. Thanks for the kind words
@@Vez3D i can only agree to the comment, you should be more on camera, you are a cool guy :) but i can relate to your fear, i am also really shy too, i was so uncomfortable in my first video 🙈
I totally agree, been watching for a while. Keep up the good work!
thanks Vez! really glad LDO has established a good reputation and we have more and more distributors of reliable, high performance motors. very useful to have a go to supplier and your tests are really valuable. quite surprising results. for a long time everyone was convinced you absolutely had to have 0.9ers for a corexy, but clearly not. happy that all my older motors aren't disgraceful trash in that regard, even if i can't get the same speeds with them. great work #LDOMOTORS !
Hey Vez, have been following your project for a little while now and have loved seeing the crazy limits you've been able to push! Looking forward to more interesting and informative videos featuring #LDOMotors
appreciate that bro you did a lot of work for this channel
great informative video Vez, looking forward to any more potential videos like this
Love the filming of the two #ldomotors test prints results you did, good job!
It's great to finally have a detailed description to distinguish between the two 👌🏻 fantastic work man 💪🏻 #LDOmotors
Great to see a good empirical comparison between these #LDOMotors. It’s definitely helpful when deciding which motors to buy for my vzbot build!
#LDOMotors I have a tronxy x5s and I was pleasantly surprised to learn about your mod! Thanks for all the good work in 3d printing :)
#LDOMotors coming from someone running a v-core 3 and trying to push its boundaries, loved to see this comparison! Keep up the good work!!
Thank you for this! I could've used this video back in early 2021, would've been so much easier to link it rather than arguing with hundreds of people on facebook 😂
You're a hero for choosing a Neffex song. The best copyright free music I've found.
Those guys are dope. Great video! Loved the comparison of the LDOs!
Very cool test! I really love how much work you put into exploring all these different options people may be thinking about trying. Thanks for your hard work. Definitely one of my fav channels. #ldomotors
Nice to see what you and #LDOMotors are doing for the community.
Nice comparison! I like the recent increase in video quality of this channel a lot!
#LDOmotors
As always, thanks for providing some great information backed by clear testing! I'd always heard folks debate the merits between .9 and 1.8 motors, great to see those #LDOMotors in action! Keep up the great work! 🤘
I was really expecting a noticeable different in the Print Quality/VFA test. What's crazy is how close they came in all of the tests expect the Speed/Acceleration tests where the performance gap was massive between the two. #LDOMotors
#LDOMotors Really looking forward to building my 330. Parts are on the way, and looking to contribute to the docs and maybe some mods. Thanks for pushing the limits over and over. Your content is great, and it's a refreshing change of pace from Voron.
#LDOMotors I was thinking about swapping out some of my 1.8 motors for 0.9's, this vid came just in time, thanks you!
#LDO MOTORS .. love the work you do. Keep it up, definitely my new fav CZcamsr to watch. Full of important info that we all want to know
Nice! Been waiting for this.
Thanks for putting in the work Vez! #LDOMotors
Always good to see more testing on this topic, excellent video #LDOMOTORS
Thanks for the excellent comparison of these #LDOmotors engines. Keep up the good work!
#LDOMotors getting my first voron kit tomorrow you’re videos are one of the reasons I’m on the voron train
I'd be interested to see if the drive pulley tooth count has a major factor on the performance.
I'm glad I didn't let people talk me into .9° steppers. I still haven't turned up my super whoppers. Wonder if it could keep up with yours. Probably not 😄
Superwhopper club!
Changing the pulley tooth count will definitely change the performance. Search YT for EddieTheEngineer and his motor torque calculator. It has a value to change the pulley size and see how speed and torque performance changes.
Its always so cool to me seeing how far FDM has been pushed and the insane speeds. Would love to upgrade my printer with these #LDOMotors
Been using both motors and can't get close to the limit! Thanks for comparing them! #LDOMOTORS
I like the new video format, definettly some improvement and transformation since you started. #LDOMotors
Happy to have kept my 1.8⁰ motors! Thanks for this high quality video & content. #LDOmotors
I have to agree, the .9 didn’t have any meaningful advantage that could be readily seen.
I think that since you’ve got such a well-tuned printer, there wasn’t anything to gain, and I expect that motor is not the limiting factor for quality. For speed, that also as I expected: less frequent steps means more power and thus speed and acceleration.
#LDOMotors
A good and thorough test. I like how you did the side by side comparison, so that one can compare them instead of skipping between to time marks to compare.
Thanks mate for the contest. Happy to give a try to the 1.8° #LDOmotors. Cheers

Great job Vez!
The maximum accelerations on the motor in 1.8 degree increments are amazing! But does the stepper motor housing overheat during such operating modes?
@@harchenko_eg not that much but I didnt run that high accel for so long.. so..
This is the first time I've seen your face. Strange how when we listen to someone without ever seeing them we create an image of them in our minds. You are no where close to what I imagined. Dont take that in a negative way. Just not what I imagined.
Did you discuss in another video why you found the stepper to be a better choice then any of the servos you tested?
@@billclark5943 no.. but im not saying its better than any other servos :) just better than the one i tried
Great to see a back-to-back comparison, since swapping to 0.9deg motors (at the same time as swapping board and drivers) I wondered where the change in noise was coming from. Thanks... Looks like some 1.8 #LDOMotors are on the shopping list.
#LDOMotors ! Appreciate the head-to-head testing. I've been getting great results from my 42BYGHM810 0.9's, partly because they have a very low phase inductance of 1.8mH, so my jaw definitely hit the floor to see both of these only have 1.5mH! I think that might be the lowest I've ever seen. The rotor inertia is a little high at 85ish, but I'm not sure how much impact that has. Not surprised by the performance results since they have the same phase inductance, meaning the 0.9 will generate twice the back EMF. You'd have to have a pretty bangin' extrusion solution before either choice became your performance bottleneck at 48V, though! The quality comparison was also interesting - both motors get artifacting in certain speed ranges, just different speed ranges. I expected CoreXY to show more difference, but it seems good motors make more difference for this motion system than the steps per mm. I definitely noticed a difference on my delta going from 1.8 to 0.9, but I also stepped up motor quality in the transition and changed boards from 8 to 32-bit at the same time, so I never got a chance to A/B just the stepper impact. Changing motors would be a pain, but if I win some 1.8 LDO's, I'll totally run a head-to-head!
Great breakdown! Those #LDOMOTORS are amazing!
#LDOMotors im in class but super excited to go back and watch this
Love what you do Vez. Keep up the great content. #LDOMotors
This is awesome! Keep up the great work #LDOMotors
Very nice comparison! Always wondered what the real world implications are. And cudos to #LDOMotors for doing this sponsorship.
I was actually just talking about this on discord! I was curious, given all else being equal, which would have a higher torque and in turn higher acceleration, thanks for the testing! I really like the #LDOMotors and looking to pick up a set for my upcoming build. I could actually see the difference in the circular model near the bottom but it was so little I don't think it matters considering the acceleration difference.
Thanks for this awesome test with those #LDOMotors
nice video I really needed something like this
myself I compared stepperonline nema 17 1.8 and 0.9 steppers for precision
I hooked them up to a linear encoder with high precision
run in a range of speeds and finally the 1.8 came as more precise
by very little 0.03 if I remember right the excel chart
but 0.03 can be a lot depends on the project requirements
Again a perfect and most useful video!
I appreciate it sooooooo much! And I admire you!
Thank you for the exhaustive comparison, keep up the good work!
#LDOMotors
Great comparison, fantastic work! #LDOMOTORS
I didn't expect so much accel difference between the 0.9 and 1.8, great video. #LDOMOTORS
#LDOMotors Keep up the good work. Really enjoying the growth of your projects.
Your videos are so inspiring. I’m currently building a full custom core xy because of your tinkering videos. You are doing a great job
#LDOMOTORS
Nice test and interesting results. Didn't expect that.
#LDOMOTERS
It's been quite cool seeing your channel grow and the content/production develop since I first started watching during the speed boat races. The #LDOMotors would be perfect for my own personal custom printer build which is mechanically nearing completion.
Gotta love that you chose NEFFEX for the printing compilation. #LDOMOTORS
I'm really surprised to see the same quality in the prints. In the other tests the win of the 1.8 was quite unsurprising. Thanks for this awesome video! #LDOMOTORS
Thanks for this excellent info!
I take it the dimensional accuracy of both #LDOMotors are about the same as well? Just wondering if the .9 would possibly have more repeatability. Fantastic tests overall and great channel!
Love watching your insane speed videos and all the cool mods to your printer. Would love to get some of those #LDOMotors for my upcoming build. Gotta upgrade from my 7 year old printer!
Finally a proper comparison, always wondered what the actual differences betwen the 2 motors #LDOMotors
Awesome Video with great technical content. Many Thanks! #LDOMotors
Thanks for the well laid out head to head testing. Nice and clear, and if I come back to it for a reference it's up front with the data so I'm not desperately scrubbing to find result. Very handy! #LDOmotors
Fantastic video vez
I’ve been looking into improving some VFA issues, in particular the effect of 0.9 degree steppers and seeing your tests gave a great insight into the difference in the 0.9 and 1.8 👍🏼 definitely putting the hand up to try some 0.9s 👌🏼
#LDOMOTORS
Thanks for the test, #LDOMotors are doing a great job. I think I will really try these motors on my futur corexy printer.
#LDOMOTORS Thank you for all the awesome content!!
Nice to see your channel evolving #LDOMOTORS
Amazing comparison!!! thanks for getting into this trouble and stress test them for us! #LDOmotors
Very good insights! and also cheers to #LDOMOTORS
#LDOMOTORS, I don't think I wrote LDO motors correct so here's my correct one. Keep up the good work I love your work. You do the stuff that nobody else wants to do and you bring to the table all the info that I need to know
Really great video for compare 2 motors; will be interesting to see similar compare video between LDO and other brand stepper.
i dont think any motors can compete with the 1.8 you have now. :)
#LDOMOTORS awesome video great way to differentiate the to motors! Keep up the hard work vez!
Ldo is making very great stuff for this hobby! They are the best! Hopefully they continue to improve and make our hobby fun #LDOMotors
Interesting video! Thanks for testing the #LDOMotors
Awesome test and love the videos! Looking forward to building a VZbot! #LDOMotors
Would be very interested to see temperature testing between the two as that’s one of the benefits that I’ve heard of the 0.9 motors, otherwise an amazing video as usual. #LDOMotors
Good point
I just received a set of LDO's 0.9-deg high-temp (180C) version a couple days ago. But I was looking to meet different build requirements, namely precision over speed and the ability to handle higher ambient temperature. I haven't finished installing them, calibrating, and testing their performance. #LDOMotors
Thanks very much for posting this test. It's a great comparison and something I've been very curious about for some time. #ldomotors
The Performance looks awesome on either one of these.
Nice Video.
- Cheers
#LDOMOTORS
Testing those #LDOMOTORS side by side is great. Very informative for those who don't have the time to do such tests.
Thank you! Another comprehensive real world test with a straight answer about a topic you couldnt get info anywhere else on the net. Next I would really like to see your machine converted to AWD setup to see if it does make a difference on a larger machine over the vz-235! Pretty please! Also in general, we didnt see / talk much about that topic yet... #LDOMOTORS
Super well made video as always! I've never really thought about the difference between 1.8 and 0.9 degree before but you did an excellent comparison of the two #LDOmotors
I absolutely love this. Thank you for doing the comparison of the 2 types of motors. I'd definitely get the 1.8degree motors because higher speed and acceleration is more important to me, especially since it can pretty much keep up on quality anyways. #LDOMotors
If you want to improve the performance of the 0.9 deg motor set the micro steps to half of the 1.8 deg motor. This will give you the same resolution for each motor but substantially increase the available torque for the 0.9 deg motor. acceleration will be more than double say from 16 micro steps to 8 microsteps
Nice comparison of the two motor types. Thumbs Up!
#LDOMotors
As always. Beautiful content. I like what you did with your cave. All the best #LDOMOTORS
I had been wondering for quite a while which one to chose! Interesting video for sure! #LDOmotors
#ldomotors I love this type of testing. Thanks for trying these things out and telling everyone about it
#LDOMOTORS
I was going to build myself an Voron 2.4.
Its very hard to decide which one is better for myself.
I do thank you for your channel and your work. It's very interesting and pleasing to watch your videos.
Awesome testing! Soon planning on building my own vzbot and will be using #LDOMotors for sure
I was always thinking about trying a 0.9 degree motor over 1.8 degrees. Great video, keep it up! #LDOMOTORS
I got LDO 0.9 Hightemp motors for XY in my voron V2.4, i haven't tried going super fast yet, still only keeping to 300mm/s for travel.
But i do think they produce very nice prints, i have very little VFA and usually really beautiful outer-perimeters.
Is it 40mm or 48mm tall XY motor? We have some claim on 40mm tall motor abs then improved it with 48mm tall motor.
awesome video as always vez good to see a comparison with 2 motors with similar specs from the same company. #ldomotors
Interesting comparison! I was really surprised that the 0.9deg motor didn't have at least slightly better print quality. But the vase mode and flat walls maybe evened things out too much? Maybe should have printed some other more complex figure that might have given the 0.9 a bit of an edge, like a mini-Simon character? :D #LDOMotors
Excellent vid!! Testing was well thought out and seemed to support the 1.8 . I do need a set of #LDOMotors.
As usual great job Simon! I love my #LDOMotors in almost finished Vz330. These 1.9s would be a nice addition to my upcoming build of MiniVz based on Ender3 bed. Best regards.
Trying to learn the difference between all the #LDOMotors - Thanks for the lesson
Really love the comparison! Keep em coming ^_^Y #LDOMotors
I love your videos when you test and compare stuff, thanks! #LDOMOTORS
#LDOMOTORS love the channel and can’t wait to see what you do next! Hope to build a vezbot this year
Really surprised that the 0.9deg motor didn't perform better in terms of print quality. I was hoping that the little bumps on the surface would be reduced with the supposed "smoother" stepping.
#LDOMOTORS
Thanks Simon, now I know which motors I need for my next build!
#LDOmotors
loved the takes on the print quality! #LDOMotors
You never disappoint!!
