  • This is Part 2 of my recent solo fishing and camping trip to the bottom of Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. Having left Coffin Bay NP and stayed overnight in the Caravan Park, I awoke to a flat battery and a failed alternator! Luckily, I was able to get it replaced the following day at Port Lincoln (big thanks and a huge shout out to 'Sparks & Spanners' Port Lincoln) before heading off to Sleaford Bay for a couple of days in pursuit of some bigger salmon. Well, I did finally manage some larger fish, although not the really big ones I was after. I also tangled (briefly!) with a large Bronze Whaler shark and saw dolphins, a seal and a huge black stingray. After a very wet final night in camp, I reluctantly headed back to Adelaide after a very enjoyable trip.

That is the most cutest salmon I have seen. I've only caught the ones that look like tommies. Because they look almost like a baby salmon so I and so I throw them back cause I definitely don'twant to get them 2 mixed up.

Hey Captain, another great video. Im a bait fisherman usually but will be picking up some of these poppers before we venture over that way. You have given me some motivation thats for sure. Thanx.

No worries - I'm amazed I don't see more people using them given how effective they are. I need to do a re-stock after this trip (lost 4), but I seem to remember getting them quite cheaply in packs of 3 from BCF I think. There is a large size too, but I would go for the smaller version.

Aaaargh I still haven't got there.
We went years back and stayed at a place called frenchman's bluff.
There were no facilities other than a bin back then but there was a shop not far away and it was great camping as it was behind the cliffs and protected.
You could scale the cliff behind it and get to some nice fishing although I'm not sure I would tackle it these days.
Might be worth having a think about if you're interested as there's some pretty amazing beaches and rocks not far away.
Thanks for the video, much appreciated.

You're welcome! Have been to Frenchman's several times, some good salmon fishing as I remember, also Greenly, Convention, Drummond Point and most of the spots all the way to Elliston! A great bit of coastline and largely quiet, although not so sure this year with so many people on the road. Caravan Parks everywhere were booked out solid by bloody grey nomads (mostly from interstate) and even the NP sites were busy.

@@captainfrank01 Yeah it's been going on for a while now with all the restrictions and then the borders opening.
Can't see it getting much better unless people start travelling overseas again and that's looking increasingly problematic as well.
We went to a few of the places you mentioned as well and there were some amazing spots with huge swells at times.
Not sure where I will try and go this year as family issues may mean that's out, again, unfortunately.
Might just go down to Deep Creek again as it was a great campsite, was quiet when we were there and showers, flushing toilets and washing up facilities are nice.
Hopefully it won't be blowing its guts out next time.
      Cheers.

@@oldbloke204 Yeah, Deep Creek is always a winner! If you are up to it, do the hike down to the DC cove or to the waterfall, both well worth the effort.

@@captainfrank01 Yeah we drove down to the beach last time and did one of the short hikes as well, very nice.

Mate you helped me find the best fishing spot Wynn vale dam. Me and my pop fished by the big dead tree in the water with another one growing out of it. But I got about 14 cat fish and a Big turtle biggest catfish was 54CM 🤯

@@captainfrank01 :It's a Long reply but I would like for you to read it :). Thanks I set it up as my new pfp. There are some big buggers in there. But also it was over a period of 10 days not in one go pop took me to waitpinga beach for some salmon And south para for some Yellas and west lakes for some bream. And I was like check this video out of this bloke catching carp and cat fish. So we searched up we're this place is and it turns out it's about 5 mins from were he stays so that same day after lunch we went to scope the place out. Was not expecting to catch anything but about 5 minutes into the fish a big catty had a go at the corn. The first day we were there was better then the other three. But then pop took me down to anaconda to get a nice little long flicky Shimano rod to get with one of my new reels. So this was my last fishing trip so I tried something I haven't done before using light gear on big fish waited about half an hour and all the sudden I hear the drag screaming almost dragged my New rod in the drink even though I had a fairly lose drag. I was convinced that it had tacken me in a snag but the "snag" had head shakes and I was like hang on this could by a big carp course I had seen a few fedding on the surface. Then I saw it was monster catty I had to drag him up over the mud only then I realized how big it was. me and my pop were like he's got to be 60 but we have it the official measure and it was 54. Hopefully next time I'm down there I get a big carp. It's sad that my passion is fish and there is absolutely no fishing here in central Australia. And I can't always go down to Adelaide because My grand perants are getting old. By the way to give you a comparison of how big the cat fish is I'm 6.5 and I have pretty Big hands. Hope you enjoyed the mini story

@@matthewyates9792 Quite a story! Unfortunately WVD is not as good as it was a couple of years back, but seems the catties are still doing OK. You obviously have to make the best of your time down here.
