A morning at an urban pond turns up a big surprise! #urbanpondfishing #pondfishing #carp
A quick morning session at an urban pond produced a few of the usual run of the mill sized fish, but the last one was a real corker! I was not expecting a fish of this size to be in such a small pond.

It was a rare dry July day with little wind in Adelaide today, so I grabbed my gear and headed down to a local pond early for a couple of hours fishing. Given the wintery conditions, I wasn't expecting too much, but was pleasantly surprised to get a couple for my efforts and was home well before lunchtime. ...... and this time, I DIDN'T forget to plug in the microphone ......

Doug and I headed to the Murray River at Blanchetown, S.A. for a morning's carp fishing. While the fishing was not exactly spectacular, we did manage a few fish and the local pelicans were very appreciative of the free feed on offer, clearly they are finding it hard to get a meal at the moment. The water is very clear right now and the river in general looks to be in quite good condition. Sorry...

Doug and I have struggled a bit with local fishing over the past few weeks now that the usual winter conditions have properly kicked in. Apart from being cold and wet, winter weather can often be not very conducive to good results as the fish feed less and are generally less active than in the warmer months. You should try the Delfin Island ponds (specifically the pond with the lily pads). there is lots of big Goldfish and the occasional carp.
Surprised you haven’t caught many goldfish in these local ponds out north.
Me too - I do see them from time to time but they don't seem to last too long. I have caught a few hybrids though.
Class
Well done Frank, firstly on being game enough to get out on a cold winter morning and of course on a good catch for this time of year. I know Doog will like this comment 😁 but that first fish was almost certainly a Hybrid.
Thanks Peter, I certainly did better than I expected - yes, could well have been!
Doug, where are you!!! Youre needed :)
Sorry, this was a Doug-free trip 😎
You should be happy with that Frank, IT IS very hard atm, 4 fish in that time was good and what a lovely quiet session it was without that serial PEST... 😂
😂😂😂 A cereal pest? What, like a weevil?
Lock's Well; wonderful to see it again ... one of my favourite spots.
Mine too, just a pity I don't get there as often as I would like!
Dodgeville That Place It's Great White Shark Jumping Zone I Believe!!!
Yes, a very 'sharky' area with numerous sightings, although to be fair, we have never seen one from the boat in nearly 20 years. Doesn't mean they aren't there of course!
I just knew Doug was gearing up for something funny at the 19min mark rushing to put his beanie on. Shame about the muddy microphone as it dampened the video quality. You have a lot of equipment out from, nets, rod bags, electronic rod holders etc. Would love a video one day on all your preparations and equipment if you can be bothered??
Yes, original GoPro audio (especially when in a housing) is pretty ordinary. I have tasked Doug with reminding me if I forget to plug in the external mic, which is just so easy to forget in the excitement of getting a line in the water. Given the Crows performance this season they need all the support they can get, Doug's been threatening to do that for a while. Maybe I should have just edited it out ..... That's not a bad idea about doing a video about the gear - I will put it to him and see if he's prepared to give away a few trade secrets 😎 He's such a shrinking violet he might just be too bashful 😂 or not.
I am shy Frank 😌
@@dougpetty6854 😄 Really? Don't force me to tell the story about you on the bus Doug ....

Thanks Larry, I have watched some of your content from Eden! Absolutely right - tough in winter in the fresh, but you (we) need to get out and have a go, fish are a bonus. If you have a look at the channel, you will find a lot of saltwater fishing content too.
@@captainfrank01 Cool, I'll go back and have a look. Thanks!
You were about to leave and you ask a Pom about rain and expect to get away in a timely manner? I feel that they would describe our heaviest downpours as a "mild spring shower", so a low lying mist was not a shock.
True 🙄The bit about the mist 'condensating' got me. The good thing about Doug is that he always has an explanation for everything! We certainly have a good 'larf' when we go fishing.
I think Dougy is on Pommy Time... but the reddy turned up nicely. Great video mate.

Thanks Peter, totally agree, but better to be out than doing chores at home!

@@dougpetty6854 I was going to head up to Pet werf last week with Wizard but weather turned nasty. Yes must catch up soon, at least in the cold weather it's possible to target Redfin or hybrids, I had a short session at the Whores Shoe last week and finished up with 20 and no carp. 👍👍👍

Jay here🖐️ I envisioned Benny hill playing over the clip when my fish dropped off and I had to run down the beach 😂 Plenty of fun had by all
Hi Jay, you know what, I did consider exactly that but thought it would be a lttle cruel! Yes, great session for everyone!
Yeh thats about my size mate 😊
We all like to have a big one ....😎
Never been lure fishing from the beach. How to you find the gutter / channel ? What are you lookign for ?
Reading a beach is really pretty simple (plenty of videos on YT to help you out). You are looking for the deeper blue water where fish will school up to feed - colour, lack of white water, where the waves don't break until close to the beach etc. Best spotted from a position of height like sand dunes behind the beach. Have a look at the drone footage from the start of the previous two videos and it will show up quite clearly.
Another awesome session mate. Heaps of them around there, obviously. Looks like everyone had a bit of fun. Jay sure got excited with the double header. Lures sure is a lot cleaner than bait, and more entertaining. Baits can be more productive across a wider species, but I love my lure fishing.
Thanks Andrew, it certainly was, the third such in three days. Agree about bait v lures - I don't use lures as much as I probably should!
I was a little too excited 😂 haha caught a few on lures too, definitely more fun when there on the bite but when my arm needs a rest the baits go back on lol

It certainly was that sort of trip Andrew, I had 3 consecutive days of good catches, this probably being the best. Unfortunately no 4-5kg fish, which was what I was hoping for, but the smaller ones were still a lot of fun and they all went back.

Great video mate 👍 looks like it was easy fishing. What’s the camping like around the area?
Thanks - yes, one of those red letter days we all dream about! There are numerous camping sites at Sheringa, run by Elliston Council at $20 per night, so I was told. Don't think there is any free bush camping anymore like in the '70's. I based myself at Elliston Caravan Park, just for the comfort for the old bloke I went with .....
Nice. I reckon a Bacon and Egg Sandwich and a nice hot cup of Tea after that would have been just about perfect. Thanks for the video.

@@SouthAustralianAdventures YOu can, and many people do. It is the most widely farmed fish in the world. The Romans introduced it to ancient Britain as a food fish. However, you do need to treat it right, bleed it and stuff. I am not an expert as I do not eat any fish at all. However, I know people who really enjoy it.
