I’ll never forget the lady I took care of in my early 20s from Minnesota that told me all about her experience at Auschwitz and showed me the numbers on her her arm. The best history lesson in life I ever had and I remember walking around for days just not knowing how to comprehend all of what she told me. I will never understand how there can be so much hate in this world. Bless her soul, she is someone in my life that definitely made a good mark on me

When we were very young, my mother told us some of the things that happened in the camps. She didn't spare us. The older I get, especially as a mother, the more real and horrifying it gets. Many, many Jews died. So did many other people. But Nazis weren't the first, nor were they the last. That's why 'never forget' is so important. Because it is within the scope of human nature to do this. Not just Nazis.

Thank you for bringing up this situation to this platform. I hope you will be compelled to complain about this to our elected ones. In the 90’s, we had some problems in Illinois with DCFS rogue agency. I contacted the governor and state rep. Two investigation took place. The internal investigation results was unfavorable to this agency. The governor had a state wide shakedown on the entire agency regarding their qualifications for the job. This didn’t go very well for DCFS The majority were unqualified for their jobs with two supervisor with only a HS diploma. I was unsatisfied with the results of providing free education to the unqualified ones to become qualified for their jobs at the tax payer’s expense of over 3 billion dollars. It takes effort to make change happen. Back in the day, I was poor, but did manage to send my kids to college, one with a Juris doctorate degree plus 4 more. I made change happen with letters. Even took the cancel mark off one Xmas card and used the stamp to mail one of my letters. Letters work! I hope will consider writing letters to our elected ones to make change for these kids in prison in another land. I can’t understand why the UN counsel hasn’t taken issues with kids in Korean prisons.

My mother talked to the owner and other people.
Therefore I sat in a corner and drew something on a paper.
A dark-haired man often looked over at me. This man was drunk. He was elegantly dressed and not tall, good looking.
Suddenly he stared at me with full of hate.
I became very frightened.
Shortly afterwards he said:

I didn't know what a Jew was, and he used a word for boy that was not used very often where I lived.
So I did not know this word back then too.

Without help he had killed me, he wanted to beat my head against the wall!

Thank you for this eye-opening video of one of the most brutal of the concentration camps in the Nazi regime. We must not forget the lessons of the past, no matter how painful they may be. I am not saying that we should dwell upon the past, but we need to look back every once in a while so we will not forget.

After war Joseph Megele left Germany and started living in Argentina for some time and then moved to Brazil, where he died in the late 70s in a beach town in the state of Sao Paulo.

I just got back from a holiday; we were the last ones to go into Auschwitz, I was basically there on my own. I spent 5 mintues standing in the gas chamber, just me. Well spooky and horrendous. To see all the scratches on the walls, to look up and see the hatches. Those poor people.
They gave them such thin clothing to go out and work all day long in some people don't realize how cold it was in Germany at that time. I've seen interviews with some survivors he said it was 30 below it was definitely below freezing all the winter months. Cannot imagine the hell these people felt freezing in the winter nor also in the summertime working and you sweat all day long and you can't even change your clothes I can't imagine which is the worst of the two, much less these horrible torture techniques that they had to go through 😨🥵

I've been there. Horrendous, but not sure people have learnt the right message. Plenty of similar cruelty since the end of WW2.

I worked in retail bookstore at uni for a few weeks... and a guy who worked with me unpacked books with me and the topic was the death camps. He told me suddenly that all his family barring one line was killed. I was shocked and taken so aback that I laughed in disgust. I wish I could meet him again and apologise.

I meet a woman at a convenience store years ago and I noticed she had numbers tattooed on her arm. I looked at her and asked her if she was a survivor of a WW11 camp. She said yes..I said God Bless you. She walked away. I was basically in shock. This was pure evil and can NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. God Bless all survivors.

Oddly, whenever I watch a documentary, video, etc., about Auschwitz, the narration always seems to begin with the end of 1941, instead of the beginning of 1940. It would be satisfying to hear the accurate and FULL account for once, instead of a 'summarized' version, as is constantly the case.
For almost the first TWO YEARS of WW2, Poles were imprisoned at the Auschwitz camp, not Jews. The Germans created the camp for Poles alone (mainly Catholics) as the German regime detested Slavic peoples, considering them sub-human, but especially the Poles. Moreover, Hitler's goal was to exterminate 85% of the Polish population, leaving just 15% as slave labour. Between early 1940 and late 1941, ONLY Poles were sent to the Auschwitz Camp but in October 1941, the Germans began construction of another camp (Auschwitz II) in a nearby town called Brzezinka, in order to be able to imprison the newly planned influx of Jews as well.
As Poland was occupied by the Germans, they considered the country their own, and as such they gave Polish towns German names. The town of Oświęcim was renamed Auschwitz, and Brzezinka became Birkenau... hence the two camps, although almost 3km apart, became known as Auschwitz-Birkenau. It was from late 1941 that Jews began being sent to the camp but they were all sent to Birkenau, NOT to the original Auschwitz Camp, to which the Germans continued to send Polish and then a few other nationalities to be imprisoned and killed. Many non-Jews were also sent to Birkenau.
Furthermore, the word 'Holocaust' refers solely to the 6 million Jewish people killed during WW2, but that element is what always seems to dominate documentaries, videos, debates and lectures. However, the total death toll during WW2, was between 35 and 60 million who were mostly NOT Jewish but Catholics, Orthodox and also Christians of other denominations. This is hardly ever stated or explained!
Whenever Auschwitz is brought up (or any conversation regarding concentration camps), it's always about the Holocaust but everyone else who suffered, died or was brutally murdered there is totally forgotten and even ignored, as if they never existed!

When I tell you this was not the most horrific bc more horrific were death camps by Soviets who were taking ppl into Syberian work force you better believe.
Who survived Syberia work and death camp had the stories of eating dead people from simply never receiving anything to eat from the Soviets. I heard it first hand from the elderly in Poland. I'm Polish.

The only reason you did not hear about the Gulags is there are only very, very few survivors and there were no "liberators" . And the ones who survived did not want to relive the horror by talking about it and only being eventually ridiculed because it is too difficult to believe.

My friends daughter went there on a school trip a few years ago. She took many pictures and several within 5he gas chamber from the same standing point and one after another. When she got home she reviewed her pictures with her mum. On one of the series of quickly taken pictures in the gas chamber you can see clearly images of many women and young children as shadows on the walls. Not on the photos before or after. The image is extremely haunting indeed. I've never shared the photo but, I follow a chanel who remembers some of those gassed there. To my utter surprise a young girls photo was put up who looked like that shadow photo! I'm still undecided whether to share the shadow photo for fear some of these shadow people may be recognised and I don't want to cause further upset to anyone. Did ghosts of the past present themselves so they are not ever forgotten?
While i could never come close to putting myself in their shoes, if i was one of the shadows, i'd take that pic as part of my story, and a story that needed told. Over and over. My take on something like a photo like that, it is like a memory of the structure. Could you imagine the energy in those chambers? No. Well, you can only throw it out there, and let ppl make their conclusions. And dont read those comments!

I want to see the large crematorium inside and out. To get a idea of what it looked like. Going inside knowing your going to die and try to put myself in their shoes and think about what if it was me.
you can google it. btw, people did not really know that they are going to die. first, they were separated at the entry (young and healthy together, old, children below a certain age and sick people, sometimes also females, also together (depending on the camp capacity and the need for labor)). Healthy people able to work were sent to the camp and they had their numbers tattooed. old and sick people were taken to the crematorium buildings (by trucks, rarely by foot). there were "standard" dressing rooms, where everyone was told to undress, leave their belongings in the changing room and enter large showers for disinfection before they join their relatives in the camps. only then it showed up that the showers were actually gas chambers. if anyone survived (cyclon b doesn't dissolve in water, so it was rarely possible to survive if you kept your head on the ground, where the most humidity was), they were killed afterward.
after several minutes, the gas chambers were opened, prisoners waiting on the ourside had to wait for cyclon B to be diluted by the air, and then they were first dragging the bodies out and then to the crematorium building.
in general, there were never other prisoners waiting "in line" on the outside to see what is happening, they would rather wait in front of the camp, relatively far away, so people did not know that they are going to die. also, inside of the camp it was kept a secret that gas chambers exist, no one really knew the origin of the smoke going out of these buildings. the existence of gas chambers was never confirmed by living prisoners in the camp, so people treated it more like a gossip and did not want to believe. also, prisoners working with the bodies were regularly killed and replaced with new ones, to be sure that noone will leak the information to the camp. they also lived in the crematorium buildings, in the attics, to avoid any possibilities to pass their knowledge to the prisoners in the camp.
