  • During the bIoody Operation Barbarossa, Hitler's troops penetrated east to the city of Stalingrad, where a brutal war was fought that lasted from September 1942 to February 1943. The siege left half a million Russians dead and a city reduced to rubble. Even so, the Germans suffered a severe defeat, and it was then that the Wehrmacht entered into a retreat from which there would be no turning back. At Stalingrad, communist forces captured 90,000 Germans, including 22 top generals.

Soviets were no worse that Germans on the East front. How about carpet bombing of German cities by US like Dresden that have no military significance? So why this committed? Why Roosevelt stopped army at Elbe and waited for Soviets to take the East Germany and divide it politically? One need to ask what was the difference between West of Germany and the East? It was religion. West was catholic and was spared the destruction, the East was protestant, predominantly Lutheran. What was the final religious outcomes before Germany was allowed to reunite? Look it up. Read the letter by Albert Pike about 3 world wars.

I live in Australia. I know an old German guy. He was a child in Danzig when the war ended and was forced to walk for days to Berlin at the end of the war. He told me ALL the women were raped by the Soviet army, including his older sister. He said after the war she had a suitor. He invited her to dinner and she told him she had been raped like all the other women. He got up and walked out. She never married and remained single for the rest of her life. So sad.

You do realise that the German army killed, tortured and r**ed their way through 20m Soviets? This was before what happened in Berlin. Was it right, of course not. It is horrendous. But let's not forget who started it all. Hitler wanted to invade Russia to expand the German empire. He could (should) have left them well alone. Instead, they razed 635 villages, killing every single inhabitant. Berlin was their payback. Furthermore, Russia deserves far more recognition for their part in a war that was not theirs to fight. Both sides did awful things and there is no way I can condone their actions.

The war finished 70 odd years ago , most soldiers are elderly , frail have dementia or have died . What would you do with a 90 odd year old frail old man ? Put him in jail ? what purpose would that serve ? It would just cost the taxpayers thousands a month and more when nursing is needed . Even though they may have committed the most heinous of crimes they have lived their lives, had families and they have nothing left to lose apart from dying , which I suppose most of them dont mind so much at that great age. You cannot really punish them apart from a sentence of death.
      Honestly,

I was born in the city of Stralsund. There is a Soviet memorial in a central square (Neuer Markt, at St. Mary's Church), and behind the church are Russian soldiers' graves. When the Russians came there, the war was over and there was almost no more fighting. The city was officially handed over without a fight. At the naval school there were a few unteachable people who didn't want to give up, but they were made short work of. An old man from Stralsund told me that most of the Russians buried there were executed by their own people because they overdid it. The town of Demmin is close to Stralsund. There was the largest mass suicide here with over 1,000 people, mostly women, because the Russians behaved like wild animals. Bodies were still being found until the 1950s.

When my father recently died (born in 1940), I found some documents. In it I found the information that my grandmother (born in 1911) was raped by Russian soldiers in her homeland of Pomerania (somewhere between Köslin and Kolberg). My 4-year-old father heard her screams from the next room. The result of this gang rape was my father's younger sister, my aunt. I only knew my grandmother as a quiet person. I never saw her laugh. Today I know why.
Please don't misunderstand me. I know what German soldiers have done, and it is terrible. There is no excuse there. But it doesn't excuse anything either. We Germans have worked through our history more intensively than some people would like. The Russians didn't do that. The winner writes history. These acts are denied and mentioning them is punishable there. But that's not all. The information about the genocide against Ukrainians in the 1930s (Holodomor) is still classified as a state secret in Russia. Their Archives are closed. Ukraine has opened its archives.
Has anything changed since today? The pictures from Butscha/Bucha and Irpin are on the Internet. Anyone can find out what the Russian soldiers did to the Ukrainian civilian population if they look for it. Of course you won't find it on Russian propaganda television or the Internet, which is filtered there. But that doesn't undo it.

Germans started a war that ended up killing a 100 million people. Everything that happened in Berlin was justified. They k*lled so many millions of us Russians and Belarusians. None of the so-called "poor" German civilians gave a crap about the atrocities their men were committing while Hitler was winning the war, and many German civilians knew about the camps, so just stop with the bs. And you have the audacity to bring up the Ukraine conflict? Germans literally sending their tanks onto Slavic territory AGAIN to k*ll more Russians and you dare bring up Bucha, which is just more mainstream anti-Russian propaganda.
I bet you have a soft spot for the Ukrainians, since they proudly do N*zi salutes and wear N*zi symbol tattoos all over their bodies, just look at Azov Brigade, a literal neo-N*zi paramilitary group which is officially part of Ukrainian Armed Forces.

In fact you don't know what German soldiers have done. What you know is WWII propaganda. In fact in the German army rape was punishable by death. And that was carried out frequently. A good friend of mine, Charlotte, who died in Adelaide in 2002, was in Hitler Youth. She was posted about an hour out of Berlin. With the Russian troops advancing she, and her 3 female companions, took off their uniforms and put on civilian clothes. She was 18 at the time. They were fleeing across green fields when over the hill came a Russian officer on a white horse. He rode up to them and asked where were they going. He had poor German but could understand. They said away from the fighting. He said not to go the way they were going as it was very bad that way and directed them in a different direction. That saved their lives. Yes, she said to me, not all Russians are bad. There is good and bad in every race. The Germans had committed so many atrocities on the Russian population, reneged on the peace treaty Stalin and Hitler had, that there was so much hate and revenge in the Russian soldiers it is no wonder they acted as they did. Russia lost more people in the war than all the others combined. Charlotte went on to marry a British occupying soldier. German soldiers used to brand the bodies of captured partisan women - and other women as well - with the words "Whore for Hitler's troops" and rape them. Following their capture some German soldiers vividly bragged about committing rape and rape-homicide. Susan Brownmiller argues that rape played a pivotal role in the Nazis' aim to conquer and destroy people they considered inferior, such as Jews, Russians, and Poles. An extensive list of rapes committed by German soldiers was compiled in the so-called "Molotov Note" in 1942. Brownmiller points out that Nazis used rape as a weapon of terror.

Military brothels (German: Militärbordelle) were set up by Nazi Germany during World War II throughout much of occupied Europe for the use of Wehrmacht and SS soldiers. These brothels were generally new creations, but in the west, they were sometimes expansions of pre-existing brothels and other buildings. Until 1942, there were around 500 military brothels of this kind in German-occupied Europe, serving travelling soldiers and those withdrawn from the front. According to records, a minimum of 34,140 European women were forced to serve as prostitutes during the German occupation of their own countries along with female prisoners of concentration camp brothels. In many cases in Eastern Europe, teenage girls and women were kidnapped on the streets of occupied cities during German military and police round ups called łapanka in Polish or rafle in French. Conditions in brothels were brutal. The women were often raped by up to 32 men per day; the visiting soldiers were allocated 15 minutes each at a nominal cost of 3 Reichsmarks per "session" between the hours of 2 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.Those who were visibly pregnant were sometimes released, but would not go back to their families, so as not to shame them

The German Third REICH troops were not the war criminals but it was the SS and the Nazis. Weimar Republic troops who were just German soldiers and some of them were in panzer units that included some SS but they couldn't stand the SS or Nazis because of their arrogant attitudes and how mean they were.
1 German captain was stationed on the Eastern front until the spring of 1942 and he was brought back after 10 months.. he was moved to France after he got some leave and his hometown for a week. He stayed in France the last 2 years of the war and he became a POW in 1944 and originally they were caught by the French but thank God he said they were turned over to the Americans..
They all got taken to America to work on ranches and farms. He said when they first went into Eastern Europe and Latvia in his journals, the people there had been sadly part of the Bolshevik land since the Russian Revolution and the only thing they wanted to do was have a religious service. They asked him if they could hold mass and he wasn't aware they had any churches left because of the Soviets.. the townspeople showed him a small cathedral they had and he couldn't understand why they had it because the Bolsheviks got rid of it and the mayor said that the Americans built that building and actually purchased that plot on the land before it became the Soviet Union.. the Russians didn't want to piss off Americans by touching that church so they left that place alone but people weren't allowed to go in there.
He told them to go ahead and several of the German soldiers went because even though they were growing up in the 1930s and Nazi Germany most of them did come from religious families even though their families had to stay quiet about their Christianity. Many of them do talk about God in their writings but not all.
They were some pretty hilarious guys.. they said the people in Latvia Lithuania etc were so kind and nice to them and he had to go back through these areas 10 months later going back to Germany and he was horrified from what he saw in Latvia and Estonia..it was horrified by the way the SS treated these people and what they did to them as far as war crimes because they came in after the German Army and killed hundreds of thousands raped killed the Jews and did atrocious things to the people.
This German officer was really really bothered by that..
He said they were a bunch of arrogant asses who always believed Hitler was going to save them from everything and they got paid more than everybody else because they were Nazis and SS so they did whatever they wanted and they were just mean .

But humans are animals after all, only separated by, oh, 25K years or so from Neanderthals. And in reality modern-day humans are only “nice” because of societal pressures to do so. The only difference between Lawrence Bittaker and the average person: he acted out his fantasies. It makes me shudder to think about it.

Instill a very deep sense of personal responsibility in yourselves and your children. Practice it everyday. Don’t let membership to any group or organization ever define you. You, as the individual you are, must be the source of your decisions and the path you take. In fact in any war there are atrocities by all sides. But there are differences in scale. It is safe to say that the atrocities by the Red Army have been on a much higher scale than any other. We are talking about a hundred times more. Also after the war there were trials and executions against Germans en masse. There have been studies comparing atrocities by the allied forces that said the least number was committed by the British forces. The factor might be the strictness of the officers leading to restricted behavior.

It's too late. The Soviets were animals, but then so were the rest of the Allies. 1945 was a year of vengeance and there was little sympathy for the Germans. On the Germans relied on the occupying forces for food and they made the populace survive on 900 calories per day and so people were starving. German women sold themselves to American troops for chocolate and cigarettes. They in turn purchased food on the black market with these American soldier rations. The soldiers acquired very rare and valuable items in the black market and shipped them back to the states, I wrote a scholarly essay at University about 1945 in Germany and was depressed months afterwards over the research.
