  • In this final video in my Mari for Beginners Series I go through entire process of texturing a 3d asset, from starting your project to exporting your textures to render, inside of Mari as you would at a VFX studio for film or TV, in real time. In this video tutorial series I am going to teach anyone with no experience how to use the VFX industry standard texturing software: Mari.
    If you have any questions please feel free to leave them below, and be sure to subscribe for more modelling and texturing tutorials :)
    My name is Michael Wilde and I'm a professional VFX artist, I have been working in the industry for over 8 years and worked on many Hollywood blockbuster films, including a couple of Oscar winners! I'm here to demystify VFX and try and teach what I know to others :)

    I really enjoyed this series !
    I have been working with Mari for over 6-7 years and found a couple useful tips 😊
    I haven't warmed up to Substance as much though, it'll be my next challenge
    Thanks for these !

    Yay! Timing couldn't be better for me as I'm really struggling to get over the hump with Mari. Will definitely be purchasing the assets. This makes me feel confident I can do this. Thanks Michael! Your work is amazing!

    This is a great tutorial.. helped me understand a lot. Can you create a tutorial on how to combine Zbrush Displacement and Normal with Mari/Substance Displacement and Normal in Maya Arnold...?? It is still a mystery to me.

    hey Michael, thanks for content on MARI, I am just bit of confused on "Use Blending colorspace" in merge node. I also tried in mari documentation but still not clear when to enable or disable.

  • @ezioauditoredafirenze1108

    Hi Michael, you have best content for Mari but I really struggle while watching your tutorials due to resolution. I mostly watch on laptop or even do some work on it but Its impossible to see Icons and texts on nodes etc. even Its still tough to see on 27 inch monitor due to Mari UI. if you can record future tutorials on lower resolutions, I know a weird request but I would appreciate a lot. Still thanks for all this amazing stuff.

    Hi Michael.. I used projection to texture my color channel but there is bleed coming.. I can't find the bleed settings.. Where can i find it.. The bleed is too large.. So where can i find it

      Bleed outside of the UDIMs? I don't quite understand what you mean

      @@MichaelWildeVFX outside my uv patch

    • @MichaelWildeVFX
      @MichaelWildeVFX  Před 2 lety

      @@CWCreationZ There's no settings with that, and bleed is needed for mipmapping (I believe) and other things so you don't want to not have. Since you don't have any UVs there it shouldn't be an issue. You can find more info on that here: learn.foundry.com/mari/Content/user_guide/working_with_patches/bleeding_across_patch_edges.html

      I love substance, I've been using it heavily over the last year or so and would recommend people know it, but learn Mari first or aswell :)

      @@MichaelWildeVFX Ok, so I would ask you a question: There is a way to paint two texture at the same time in order to overlap them perfectly? Example, if I want to work whit a Diffuse Map and Displacement Map from Texturing XYZ at the same time? I saw a lot of video when they worked them in two different step, but what if I need a large number of detail match exactly one with another, examples the pore skin in both diffuse and displacement?
      This issue bug me a lot, expecaly because I found a way in substance but, since my graphic card is a bit old, I cannot export texture in 8k; I would try to work in Mari (onestly simply because I like more the user interface and UI style) but this problem of overlap texture bother me a lot (presented by Hetap) so i was looking for some kind a trick.
      The closest thing I found is change the texture before bake it and go back and forward beetween layers but this is work only if I not bend the texture, the moment that i change image the bend grid reset itself.
      So here I am searching for answer.
      Sorry for my broken english ^^'

      @@laurelionothaliondor7308 I recommend reading some of the articles on texturingxyz, they have ALOT of tutorials on there about the workflow that are very well written that will explain it better than I'm able to type out. That should answer the questions you have :) But short answer is no there isn't currently a way to project 2 layers at once so you have to workaround that. It's quite annoying!

    • @laurelionothaliondor7308
      @laurelionothaliondor7308 Před 2 lety

      @@MichaelWildeVFX Well, I obviously try to see all the tutorial that I can find but it's a very specific bit of information and no luck by now.
      All that I realy need is know if there is a way to preserve bend or warp information skipping to one texture to another.
      So i can modify the diffuse and be able to apply the same modification on the other textures.
      This or someone can explain me how to bake 8k texture from substance with a nvdia gtx 1080ti with 2 giga of vram xD

    • @MichaelWildeVFX
      @MichaelWildeVFX  Před 2 lety

      @@laurelionothaliondor7308 That's what I'm saying, you can't so you need to use workarounds. So the texturingXYZ articles will teach you workflows professionals use to texture best with their maps when you are unable to project the different channels at the same time.
