When the first Dune movie came out (2021) I had no idea what it was or had ever heard of it. I love sci-fi so I read up on the story and learned about the books. Let me just tell you, I read ALL 6 books in a year before I watched Dune Part 1. And it is one of the most compelling stories I’ve ever read. Excited is an understatement for this second part! Paul rallying the Fremen with extreme intensity was awesome and sinister in equal measure. Based on the stuff they emphasised in this trailer, you can tell that Denis Villeneuve really understands Dune.
Denis Villeneuve said he plans to make a trilogy, adapting two books. He decided to split the first novel into two films and the third will be Dune Messiah, completing Paul’s story.
@@holddowna at least do the original 6 books, the others are by his son and not as good and conflict with the original story line. His son's books are what the HBO series will be using as reference.

Notice how in this trailer, Paul says “It’s not prophecy, it’s a story” And Gurney says “This prophet….why not use it.” And Paul says “because all my visions lead to horror.” And Stilgar says “I don’t care what you believe…I believe.”

Even if you don't read the book (or just the 1st half) looking through the glossary of terms in the back explains so much. Those short definitions add so much history and depth to the characters and concepts involved. Also, the maps of Arrakis are very cool just to help the reader mentally situate important locations like Arrakeen, the Shield Wall, Sietch Tabr, the storm-ravaged equatorial belt, and the mysterious south polar regions. Dune was one of the greatest books I ever read when I grew up in the 80's and 90's. It was one of those life changing books when it comes to shaping your world view and the sequels only add on to the experience.

Just a suggestion. If you want to read the book. I suggest getting the audio book. Its done with a cast of voice actors and performed really well. But its something you can listen to while you work on something else or workout. The audio version is just over 21hrs long. Anyway, there is sooo much that this story has to be told. Hope they continue with the second book after part 2.

Truly a wonderful and genuine reaction! Obviously, I enjoyed your reaction very much and decided to subscribe to your channel. As soon as I had heard that Denis Villeneuve (who was a huge fan of the novels) was going to direct Dune, I knew that fans of the novel would finally get the adaptation that the story, and Frank Herbert, deserved (Lynch's Dune 1984 was absolutely NOT it). Also of note: Hans Zimmer turned down working on Christopher Nolan's TENET movie, because Hans was a huge fan of Dune as well and wanted to write the score for it (he plays the bagpipes in Part 1 when the Atreides walk off the ship on Arrakis :). BTW, I'm just as pumped for Part 2 as I was for Part 1. And just like Part 1, I will see Part 2 in IMAX as well.

Looking forward to Part Two more than I have to anything else in a long time. I have always been in awe of Dune - I first read it fifty years ago, in high school, and have still never come across an equal feat of science fiction world-building (although some of Frank Herbert's other works are also very good, especially The Dosadi Experiment.) I never saw the 1984 film version of Dune, because when I saw trailers it looked like a live-action cartoon - the people who made it clearly didn't understand or respect the book, and it pissed me off. I've learned since that Lynch didn't even read Dune. Enough said about that. Anyway, 2021's Part One was brilliant, and Part Two looks to be even better as it builds on Part One, same as the second half of the book builds on the first.
I’d recommend seeing it before you read the book, that way you aren’t making comparisons while seeing it. But the trailer is goosebump-inducing, for sure.
I read the Dune trilogy in the late 70s (it was only a trilogy at that point), and really enjoyed the David Lynch movie because it held pretty close to the book, though it had to be quite compressed. I also figured it would be a box office dud because it would make little sense to anyone who hadn't read the book. Villeneuve spreading it over two features is an excellent move, taking more time to tell the complex story. And of course the film making is on another level. I'm eagerly looking forward to part 2.
I appreciative and share your enthusiasm for this sequel. The first one was both so beautiful and intense, and this trailer does invoke that as well (as you observed in your reaction). (I makes me just realize that the beauty and the violence side-by-side with each other, almost heighten each other with the contrast). Looking forward to this film as well! Do you plan to watch it for the first time at the cinema? If so, will you do a reaction/review soon afterwards for us?
Oh man, the movie is so damn good.. The books are a 1000 times better. The story goes place you would never imagine. It has a depth no movie could ever hope to convey. You won't be able to put them down.-
Read the first book before hand but consider stopping at the point part 1 ended. There are a lot of details(back story/world building) missing from the first part that will make the second half that much better.
all told there are 6 Dune books by Frank Herbert (we don't count any of his son Brian's books, he inherited all of his father's notes but absolutely 0 of his talent). Dune 1 & 2 together tell the story of the first book, Dune. I can see the next 2 books being made, Dune Messiah & Children of Dune. I can't see the 4th book, God Emperor of Dune, being made for a variety of reasons (no spoilers, just trust me) & without it none of the rest make any sense at all.
Yeah, i adore the book series, my fav of all time, but i am a big proponent of watching adaptations before reading the source material. It's extremely difficult to watch a film or tv-show adaptation of a book that you love without imposing your expectations and grading it against them. It's far better to watch the adaptation in order to appreciate it as a film and grade it on it's own merits as a sci-fi movie rather than an adaptation of your favorite book series of all time. Also, there's the fact that the Dune saga is classic sci-fi, meaning that it focusses far more so on themes, philosophy, and world-building with a shit ton of inner monologue and not nearly as much in terms of detailed descriptions of events/actions the way most fiction of the past few decades does. That's just not appealing to everyone, so don't feel bad if you go and read it and simply aren't able to find it as engaging as you expected. As for the trailer, yeah i am soooooo hyped! I loved the first movie, can't wait for this one!
😮ok I'm one of the few who didn't rate the first that high. Cinematography, and other actors outshined the lead in my opinion, they were great but not epic but here damn so glad Chalamet has time to shine here. Definitely a strong trailer X
Dun is a very different depth of read than Harry Potter because there are multiple elements involved. Economic social mythic political; and the witch world just kind of skips like a stone over those things.
You should read the book asap. In fact you should read all six of them. No need to bother with the 1984 version it's just very bad. It does have a guild navigator in it though lol.
"I know people that love Dune 1984" OK you need to cut those people out, you dont need that kind of insanity in your life. lol All joking aside, Lynch did his absolute best to make the Dune story happen but it wasnt possible.
I just came back from seeing Dune part 2 AWESOME I've read a lot of science fiction and in my mind's eye I can often see the story as I'm reading it. Rarely does a movie adaptation live up to What I imagine reading the book. Dune surpassed it. When I first saw Star Wars I thought of it kind of resembling Dune but Not as deep. Dune is the one. To me it surpasses Star Wars in storytelling. I think maybe the space battles are better in Star Wars. But the knife fights in Dune far surpass most of the lightsaber fights in Star Wars. The hero's journey is subverted because Paul is consciously and cynically manipulating the legend of the one which was a artificial creation by the Bene Gesserit. This shows the underside in manipulation that is part of most religion especially fanatical or fundamentalists belief. They get the story right and it is epic.
I read all the books more than 50 years ago. I love David Lynch but I hate the 1984 Dune. This is so much better in every way. Stoked like you are to see this film.
A few weeks ago, when this film had just been out for a day or so, I urged myself to go to the movies for the first time this year. "Give in to deliciousness," I told myself, even though I'd found Villeneuve's Dune Part 1 a bit boring and disappointing. A few minutes into the film, I was delighted. An hour later, I was bored. Two hours later, I was angry, disillusioned, and bitter. What a crap-fest! Why hadn't I just walked out? Dune Part 2 is extra-textual, slightly misogynistic, and completely devoid of interesting characters and ideas (save for Javier Bardem's Stilgar, who is remotely interesting -- a standout performance in a film full of cardboard cut-outs disguised as "characters"). In the film’s defense, the visuals and music were lavish and cast just the right spell -- like the "Feelies" out of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. As a lifelong fan of the Frank Herbert novels and someone invested in the "Dune-iverse" (2nd prize nationwide in the Universal Studios/Lifetime Learning "World of Dune" contest when I was a high school junior), I can honestly say that I hate this film without reservation and view its success as an indication of a culture in its last (and most illiterate) phase: proof that the US empire is in sharp decline, circling the drain. I sincerely hope there are many universes in the multiverse where I don't have to watch this kind of lobotomization/bastardization happen to novels/art I dearly love... and to a society I once held in such high regard.
@@holddowna -- What can I say, I'm glad you had a good time with the film, and I wish I could say the same! I went into it hoping to enjoy it, expecting to enjoy it, and was disappointed (obviously). But that's me. Truth be told, I prefer films like Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, The Ruling Class, Poor Things, Parasite, Delicatessen, Get Out, Enchanted April, Apocalypse Now, His Girl Friday, Amelie, The Philadelphia Story, Network, Harold and Maude, Pulp Fiction, BlacKKKlansman, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, Eraserhead, Annie Hall, Pleasantville, Run Lola Run, Bros, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Rear Window, Singin' In the Rain, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, True Romance, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Man Who Would Be King, The Graduate, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Closer, Working Girl, Lawrence of Arabia, Monty Python & the Holy Grail, Akira, Spirited Away, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Do the Right Thing, Godzilla Minus One... What I miss in the new Dune movies feels like substance -- interesting characters, situations, and ideas. What the films do right feels like mere sensory stimulation. But again, that's my experience and if others are getting more out of it, more power to them, I guess. I don't really see Herbert's work reflected in Villeneuve's movies, but I suppose that's subjective, too. In any case, thank you for responding, content creator! I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors!

I never saw the 1984 film version of Dune, because when I saw trailers it looked like a live-action cartoon - the people who made it clearly didn't understand or respect the book, and it pissed me off. I've learned since that Lynch didn't even read Dune. Enough said about that.
Anyway, 2021's Part One was brilliant, and Part Two looks to be even better as it builds on Part One, same as the second half of the book builds on the first.
I CRIED TOO
😭😭😭😭🥹🥹🤪 srsly thou! Epic! Thanks for watching!
@holddowna we both crode..😭 lol yeah fs thanks for making it
I’d recommend seeing it before you read the book, that way you aren’t making comparisons while seeing it.
So excited! So much dune to learn about I know nothing!
THIS is why they did 2 movies. SOO MUCH happens in the 2nd half of the book that 80's movie had change and skip over.
👍🏽
I'm sooo excited!! Where in Canada are you? I want to watch this movie opening with you lol
The movie must flow!
I think I will go to the theatres! My goal is to read the book before so I can understand the movies more. Cause there is so much going on
Oh man, the movie is so damn good..
Cant believe were about to witness the movie of the century
🤯right! Visuals etc! Let’s go! Thanks for watching!
@@holddowna im beyooooond excited, never read the book nor watched the original but the part one blew me away letsgoooo
I loved part one, can't wait to see part two. My friends and I even started playing Dune the role playing game..........
That’s cool! Sounds like fun!
Can't wait for feyd!!!
Omg SUPER PUMPED!! This movie looks epic!!
Let’s go!
new version closer to the book but not all.
Oh yeah that movie requires a big screen and all the surround sound.
Read the Book! its awsome
Nice reaction - Villeneuve intends to make part 3 after this, based on Dune Messiah, if the studio greenlights it -
Hope so! I love his films!
I fell asleep during the first movie. But this trailer makes me think I should try again.
Even better 2nd go! Try again!
SO looking forward to this, in about 2 months now.
I think it got pushed
This is the way.
all told there are 6 Dune books by Frank Herbert (we don't count any of his son Brian's books, he inherited all of his father's notes but absolutely 0 of his talent).
Thanks for ur comment!
So happy you enjoyed!
Thanks for watching!!!!
Liet is Chiani's father.
Have you watched Incendies? If not, reaction video?
No I haven’t!
@@holddowna worth it! very different though
I love you too ❤😅
😮ok I'm one of the few who didn't rate the first that high.
"I know people that love Dune 1984"
OK you need to cut those people out, you dont need that kind of insanity in your life. lol
All joking aside, Lynch did his absolute best to make the Dune story happen but it wasnt possible.
Haha!!!
Primal fear 1996 is a good movie
Such a good movie! Seen it 1 only recently! Thanks for your comment!
Why haven't you reacted to this yet?
I just came back from seeing Dune part 2
AWESOME
I've read a lot of science fiction and in my mind's eye I can often see the story as I'm reading it.
Dune ❤❤❤ Zimmer❤❤❤❤ Привіт з Украіни ! Шкода що я не зможу подивитись цей шедевр 😢
Start reading
Vade the other son. Of house harkonon gidi prime
I read all the books more than 50 years ago. I love David Lynch but I hate the 1984 Dune. This is so much better in every way. Stoked like you are to see this film.
Thanks for commenting!! Can’t wait!!
Baron Harkonnen: "It's so damn hot! Milk was a bad choice."
HAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Terrible 1984 this is close to the book
Read Dune
👍🏽
🌺 *promosm*
Here's hoping they stick to the book and don't add the modern crap to it.
Drop potter immediately and read dune and messiah.
Hahahah! I can’t! I owe it to my potterheads!
I really loved the movie!
Do read the books, when you can. Skip the 1984 film. The new movies are better.
Don't watch Dune 1984. XD Read the books!
overacting reaction.. dont cringe
Thanks for watching
se napolean omg! its insane!
