- When the topic of party games usually comes up, most first thoughts are Mario party or other popular properties. For me though it always comes back to one game in particular, Ape Escape Pumped & Primed.

New monroe video
As a kid Ape Escape was my fucking jam, discovering these spinoffs as an adult is really weird. Its like going back to your old room from childhood and seeing its an office, but finding that little toy you cleverly hid behind the vent. What a strange sense of nostalgia.
It's cool that this Metal Gear minigame had so much work and passion put into it. I hope it gets it's own game someday :)
I understood this reference!
I really hope Ape Escape gets an actual new game. I would love to see an Ape Escape 4.
Ape Escape 4 - Its About Time
Maybe they'll add levels where you can play as the pipotrons and fight enemies using there superpower.
I’ve played this game at over 300 hours. I kid ya not. It was just so charming and fun! I even know some combos too!
Example as Helga w/Stunclub: Flick, Flick, Flick, Spin, Thrust.
@@SpeedStar1642 P&P is a lot more refined mechanically than any of the other games in the series when it comes to combat. Spike for example has an infinite with the stun club and the dash hoop. If you start off with the spin attack and use the tilt followup, then switch to the dash hoop and run into them, then immediately switch back to stunclub and do the spin > tilt again you can chain forever unless the target has a bladefly.
There are also a lot of movement options that make it more fast paced than other games in the series. Like how the dash hoop never stops to recharge and maintains its momentum with a single jump. You can also sustain it with a periodic 3/4 spin instead of having to constantly rotate the stick. Also you can make the dragonfly fall slower by doing a single rotation and then releasing for a second before doing another rotation.
@@O2Eater Holy cow I'm not the only one to have figured out tech for this game. There's also using the dragonfly to recover from being knocked over midair, hitting opponents in the air after hitting them with a missile or attacks that launch, and combo-ing opponents by cancelling into special moves. This game has such a high skill ceiling, I wish there was a way to play this game online with others.
I recall thinking there were underwater cities in real life, when I played this game as a kid, and discovered an advertisement in the second underwater level. I still wonder what that message was about, given the fact my English was not as good, and around 10 to 20 years have passed since.
Lots of passion, many monke, time to party.
This video in a nutshell: Reject modernity, return to monke.
God, I used to play this game constantly. Every Friday night, a close friend of mine and my bro would take turns playing through the campaign and then doing 3 player party mode. I really hope that Million Monkeys gets a completed translation at some point because I'd really like to be able to enjoy it proper
I really want them to do another main series game. I miss this series so much.
Pumped and Primed being an Ape Escape party game that plays like a normal Ape Escape game was one of the things that made me like it so much (it was like Ape Escape, but with a faster pace and a higher emphasis on combat), and in the blue moon chance I can get someone to actually try it, they seem to enjoy it. It's always been super depressing that I almost never see anyone talk about this game (half because the people around me tend to only care about new releases, and half because nobody cares about Ape Escape unless it's the dualshock revolution of the first one), and that it has almost no reviews here on CZcams at all, especially since I've always loved playing it so much... And its hard to play it once you play it with friends since it's so much more fun that way, but just about all games are like that.
So seeing someone actually praising it like this is a very special kind of validation.
Also I thought to myself after playing it and before Million Monkeys was in development that I wanted a game that combined the AE: P&P with the mainline monkey catching games. I got really excited when I saw that my idea was actually becoming a thing that would exist soon, then really sad when Million Monkeys was landlocked to Japan because other region versions were cancelled.
I'm so happy I found someone who loves this game as much as I do
This was my first Ape Escape game and I loved it so much.
FOR YEARS I HAVE WAITED FOR SOMEONE TO TALK ABOUT THIS GAME
you and me both, homie I remember several times spending ages scouring YT search results for an LP or a review or ANYTHING to no avail.
Man this is a blast from the past me and my cuzen played this so much that we found so many ways to break the game by skipping like half of the race tracks with specific power up and moves great times
Pumped and Primed was(or still is) my jam back in the day,I remember the water stages; the boat and the watermech, being the worst minigames for me.
Pumped and Primed was one of the first PS2 games I played with my older cousins and it still is one of my favorite video games.
Taking a break from helping to end hedge funds to watch Dimitri Monroe.
I wish I put more time into this. Actually imported it before the US release just because it has playable Natsumi/Natalie (my weakness for pigtailed red heads knows no bounds) and did indeed have fun. And yes I imported Million Monkeys for the same reason.
That said I'd LOVE to see an Ape Escape retrospective or more discussion of the series. It's such a weird series: An outright first party Sony game made for the sole purpose of justifying the dual analog controller expands into a lengthy series in Japan only for many of the games to not get US releases and it generally fell by the wayside...and then it gets a weird Nickelodeon series out of nowhere for no good reason. There are like...LAYERS to the weirdness. Heck that last PS Move game was a huge downgrade from what was advertised initially and was download only yet had freakishly good presentation with all sorts of anime cutscenes.
What a weird weird series. I'd try covering it myself but I didn't get anywhere in any of the games and it sounds like you might have a deeper attachment to the series than me.
never knew ape escape had a party game looks pretty fun would love to see the series comeback if it is good that is if not at least the old games still exist
Man, now I feel really bad for initially passing up on this game since I was always under that impression that it would just be a generic party game without much effort put in. This not only looks right up my alley but when you mentioned the thing about the game being charming because of the useless stuff, I immediately knew what you meant and it's made me want to play this even more now since not a lot of modern games really hit that part for me anymore.
Can't believe I missed this video for a whole year! This series is legit one of the best on Playstation, and it's sad to see we may never get anything other than fan translations of what we never got (BTW, not sure how far along Million Monkeys is rn, but we DID get an almost 100% translation of Piposaru 2001, which was the vaccuming pants one!)
Thank you for people one of the few people who even talk about Ape Escape, and ESPECIALLY this one!
"I want to talk about things that I enjoy, that I sometimes feel are going away"
So what you're saying is you're some kind of nostalgia critic?

@@DimitriMonroe I tease so you don't have to.
Kinda crazy story here. My parents bought this and Tekken 5 for me back in 2005. One year before 3 comes out. And it was pretty good night. My cousin, Aunt, and Uncle too.
Funny thing about Ape Escape 3, the year later around Christmas Time, at Toys R Us I bought Ape Escape for $0.99…NO JOKE!
Never played this myself, or any Ape Escape for that matter other than a demo of 2, but I've always found the series interesting. It was really fun to hear you talk about it. :)
This Ape Escape game is the only one I actually own and bought, and while I had nobody to play it with, I still had fun. Might try the main series one day if I can.
I'm so going to enjoy this!
I played alot and loved AE: Pumped and Primed (also that's the only Ape Escape games that I had..... I think). So this is going to be a great nostalgia trip!
And...... now I remember that I had crush with Helga at that time (and maybe Casi too but I can't clearly remember).
........yeah ._.
Very hardcore and manly game, bananas for life.
YES THE GIFTS FOR ALL THE CHARACTERS!!! NOSTALGIA HIT ACHIEVED, THANK YOU KIND SIR
I was very depressed, and this video was exactly what I needed right now.
Oh my… I am so happy to see this, I love the Ape Escape series!
Pumped and prime ost fucking
S L A P S
Am considering getting this game for my Japanese PS2 and this video helped convinced me. Thanks!
Hope you have enjoy it ! (:
Curious. For the soundtrack of this game, was it the guy who did Bomberman Hero 64? The ots gives me those kind of vibes.
It's good to see you back Monroe, i hope you doing well since your last video, keep up the good work.
Awesome video! Glad to see someone showing some love to this game :)
ape escape 3 was the first game i had ever played.. and it's really stung to see the franchise not get as much recognition from either Sony or USA as a whole... as you said i would rather them not get their claws on these games again, but a part of me hopes they bring it back.. eventually, here's to hoping, these games were the last bit of soul Sony had.
Man, I love Ape Escape! I had no idea this game was a thing.
When i was younger i had fear of pipotrons voice
This video as a pleasant surprise. Ape Escape is my favorite PS platformer series and I think I'll try this one out. Great video!

I've said this for years. Thank you for making me less alone
Watched this video for the love of Ape Escape, pleasantly surprised to see Steambot Chronicles pop up, such an amazing game!
Pumped ape escape made my life
The only detriment to pumped and primed as a party game is it's lack of randomness. Due to my overwhelming amount of skill, no one I know will play it with me and my 5 year old daughter cries whenever the game is mentioned. No matter what handicap I give myself, I just can't lose.
Nice video. I do miss the Gamecube games lots of fun times, from Melee, Kart, Custom Robo, F-Zero, Party, etc. Especially with some beers. Sadly gaming isn't what it used to be. Especially Sony, leaving there home culture behind for a idiotic movement of wokeness.
While I'm quite familiar with Ape Escape I had no idea this game existed. Looks kinda cool I'm glad to be introduced to this.
I wish Ape Escape would come back. Those games were peak fun, a hallmark of the design philosophy back then; a fun series with an interesting take on platformers. 3 remains my favorite game I've never beaten, damn scratched disc and I wished they port it, american dub, along with the rest of the series. Or just release a new god damn game...
Oooh maaaan, I always love your video! Always introduce me to new stuff and or idea!!!!!
Omg, this game was so deep in the recesses of my mind. I was a Cassie main.
I AM GOING FULL MONKE
I really miss the Ape Escape games, this was a nice vid to watch.
I feel ya, Sony doesn't do em like this anymore. Big companies don't give a shit about what made them great nowadays...
Some indie dev needs to resurrect the spirit of this series. At the very least, give the composer a damn job again!
Dimitri, my favorite Femboy.
came to say that ur twitter sucks bro
I grew up on pumped and prime during the ps2 days
Really good times
I wish the game was on the ps store
Bruh I spent so much time on this jawn as a kid
AYO THE PIPOTRONs
this brings me back to memory lane so much
im crygn
The best unlockables were Jake and Dark Jake due to to how broken they were.
Good video shame Pumped & Primed never came out in my country
The general idea reminds me of Zelda Four Swords Adventure, translating the single-player experience to a multiplayer one.
I really need to go back to play ape escape again
IM HAPPY TO SEE YOU AGAIN
I am happy to be here friend !!
@@DimitriMonroe thanks sempai
I've never played Ape Escape before but I'd love to give it a try sometime

like I was DIRTY with Natalie on this jawn
the title alone got me because as someone who follows your Twitter i was expecting a lewd joke smh my brain betrayed me
Ah yes, Dimitri Monkeroe talking about Monke game what more could you ask for :D
Sony killing of Japan studio that made this series is gonna be a permanent black mark on the corporation for me. We haven't even gotten a simple collection with three mainline games in one collection.
My childhood...why...
Stop making me want to try out Ape Escape I have enough games in the backlog Dimitri
This game is possibly the most Dimitri Monroe game i have ever seen
I miss Saru Getchu...
oh man i love ape escape
I remember my bro just obliterating us in the dragon fly map and completing the rest of the map alone lol
he was a douche
Can you do klonoa

Ape escape games use to piss me off lol no cap.
Kind of disappointing that Jimmy wasn't in this game 😔
Ape Escape 3 also... 😔
Hey, Dimitri! 👋
Hello there friend
You really are just ignoring Astrobot and the new Sackboy game, huh?
Monk Dimi

Ugh! Just thinking about the Americanization of Sony, all the things we've lost potentially forever because of it and all the pretentious bs it has left us with, breaks my Playstation shill hearth...
Mario Party peaked at Mario Party 2. It's been all downhill since then.
I wanna say 6 takes the cake for me. Especially with how it applied the Day-Night cycle to every level and even some minigames. Plus, it refined the orb mechanic.
I could have done without the "one board, one gimmicky ruleset" formula, though.
...That said, I really liked Clockwork Castle x)

Too bad this game never got released in Europe, so I can't play it... :/ Nothing new there. Better add it to the list, along with Xenosaga, Chulip, Excite Bots and many others.
Also fuck California.
