I'd be happy to contact you, but wonder about my situation. I have hyperacusis (no tinnitus) that seems associated with anxiety/depression/PTSD. I'm working with a therapist on CBT to reframe attitudes but wondering if my situation would be relevant, given that I am pretty sure the condition is related to hyper-vigilance (long history of catastrophizing) as opposed to a "structural" problem. a sort of mind-body thing (which Joel kinda alluded to too...not so much "mental" but about how my brain reacts to sound and perhaps some learned pathways to feel startled). I live in Vietnam and where I am a trained audiologist is unlikely. Anyway, I'm particularly keen to try sound therapy and using the ear devices, but here too may have to do some scrounging to source the hardware. Thank you

gnosed with hyperacusis. It got worse over the years and I got retested a few months ago and it confirmed I now have moderate hyperacusis, the next level to severe. I have extreme pain when I have a noise event such as fire trucks or ambulances driving by, road construction, children screaming, grocery carts banging, dishes clanging and even normal conversation at times. I end up with a very bad headache, earache, fullness in my ears, and neck pain for several days. What I’ve learned over the years is that if I have several events in succession, the pain is worse and lasts longer. If I can be away from loud noises for awhile, my pain starts subsiding. However, my recovery period is taking longer. My audiologist suggested sound therapy but I’m concerned it might make my condition worse, as I have read it did for some people. I am thrilled for Joel and his success with sound therapy. I’m sharing my experiences so that it might help in researching this terrible condition and hopefully finding a cure. My heart goes out to all that suffer from hyperacusis.

    • @treblehealth
      @treblehealth  Před měsícem

Your audiologist is correct in suggesting sound therapy, which can indeed be beneficial for managing hyperacusis. It's important to start at a low volume where you can still comfortably hear people around you. You can also try short sessions, like one hour per day, and adjust based on what feels best for you. Consistency is key, so finding a routine that works with your comfort level and gradually increasing as tolerated can be helpful.

I'm genuinely happy for Joel, but Treble Health's tinnitus maskers programme didn't work for me. I was consistent in wearing my maskers for over 1 year (as they said to do), tried to protect my ears, but at the end of the year I wasn't anywhere close to being back to my normal self.
During the year, I had moments of feeling a little better, but sounds are everywhere and life is unpredictable. So, things inevitably happened (loud sounds). Are you actually getting better if one event sets you back to the beginning?
If you're suffering from hyperacusis/tinnitus or any other auditory issue, I know the desperation you feel. I am grateful for the hope that I initially experienced from Treble Health. But it certainly is not a one size fits all. I still wear my maskers, but I'm still struggling everyday. Honestly, now I wear it to keep me calm and block out the tinnitus. Ensure that you do as thorough an investigation into your specific situation with your hearing as possible.
I pray that one day a cure is found for this horrible condition. It has completely changed my life and the lives of others.

I had some ear wax, went to the doctor, he tried and some nurses tried gently but a little piece was stubborn. A new young doctr tried with cold water and extra pressure. He ended pulling the wax and a good portion of my ear drum. They gave me ear drops that seems to make things worse. They have repeated ciprofloxacin the drops and what i thought was infection may have been hyperacussis. I have repeated seen the doctors and ent. None mentioned hyperacussis. I have resorted to wearing ear cuffs. They give relief , the ear fullness is from hyperacussis and not the antibiotics. It seems the ear drop is the contributor or a side effect that cauaes this phenomenon. All the specialists, doctors have not helped and the youtube gives me right answers. @@treblehealth Thanks, but I was referring to hyperacusis. I have watched all the Michael Golenhofen videos so I'm well informed about tinnitus but haven't seen any equivelent deep dives into what causes hyperacusis.

I used Aftershokz bone condensers, and the the myNoise app. The ability to customize the sound is great. Remember, I'm no medical professional. I'm just telling you what worked for me. But I don't think the sound therapy would have worked without Dr. Sarah's guidance. I tried DIY remedies with limited results. I did this video because I feel that without Treble Health's help, I'd still be in the situation I was in two years ago.

@@jarmentor1731 thank you so much for sharing your inspiring story! ✨🙏☀ I’m. curious if you mostly used the Aftershokz bone conduction headphones for your sound therapy, or if you also used devices that go inside the ears? And did you use the Aftershokz bone conduction headphones with Bluetooth? If so, did you find the Bluetooth signals impacted your health in any way? Much gratitude and appreciation to you! 🙌🏼😁

@@PremaGaia I just used the aftershokz headphones which were connected by Bluetooth to my phone. The app I used is called myNoise. I like that I could customize the noise to exactly what I wanted. There were two advantages of the headphones:
      1. I can hear people around me, so I wasn’t isolated from “the world”. As a teacher, that would not have worked for me.
      2. I found that headphones that covered my ears, or were in my ears, isolated the tinnitus and “made it worse”.

@@PremaGaia Sorry for missing this comment for so long. The Aftershokz headphones was all that I used. At it's worst, I could not use ear covering headphones. The tinnitus that developed along with the hyperacusis was amplified when my ears were covered. The other obvious advantage is that you can hear the world around you, so you don't feel so isolated. Aftershokz now makes bc headphones that you can wear separately on each ear, which look like they are even more convenient.

Rest your ears. Don't use headphones. Stay away from loud sound. Try to avoid sound that is uncomfortable. Over time it's likely to get better, but it can take months or sometimes longer, it seems.
      Good luck!

In-ear headphones are a bit scary I think. Wouldn't use them for an extended time. Even sounds volumes that sounds "OK" can be problematic over time. Having them in for hours it's a good idea I think.
Maybe best to consult and audiologist and see what the opinion on your particular case is.

@@jarmentor1731I can recommend getting an air purifier for your bedroom. Not only does it purify the air, in my case it also helps against tinnitus and hyperacusis - that is, if it makes sufficient sound/noise when in bed.
In any case, thanks for sharing your story.
