Barney Curley's epic rant!

- A classic TV moment from back in 2005 on At The Races! Legendary gambler and racehorse trainer Barney Curley loses it with John McCririck and Luke Harvey at Folkestone Racecourse, following the disappointing run of his horse Cristoforo.
- Sport
I just appreciate that the guys being insulted were still willing to engage in a debate.
because hes an irish gangster and a proper legend
Totally agree
It’s the British way
RIP barney. Absolute legend.
RIP McCririck. Absolute legend.
Barney at his finest. The passion is there in his voice, he's raging. The sport was truly in his blood and he didn't suffer fools. Absolute legend!
The man was a legend
I came straight to this clip to pay tribute following his passing. RIP Barney, racing legend (i wonder if he's continuing the discussion on the other side with McCrirrick 🤨)...
I bet He did :-)
Barney curly was a regular cheat it's fact
Poor Luke lost his hair after that interview.
Haha
After Mr Curley's hairdryer treatment I'm not surprised Luke Harvey's hairline receded to the back of head 😄
R.i.p Barney and John. Hope you both are having a drink together in Heaven .
@Martin Devlin who said it *MUST* be alcoholic?
Hell*
RIP Barney you be much missed 😢 love this clip
Watched this live, A great piece of television. RIP John, You were always the one I looked forward to seeing most on the box, A very knowledgeable man indeed,God bless you.
RIP Barney - a character if nothing else
he was a crook and nothing else
@@johnvalentine8941how do you figure that
@@johnvalentine8941 you are talking about the same man who set up a charity for underprivileged and poverty stricken children in Africa. I’d say that is something else.
A man you don’t mess with when it comes to horses RIP
R.I.P. Big Mac.
He did more more for us punters and for horse welfare than the vast majority of owners, trainers and jockeys who treat as non entities even though we fund their largesse through the levy board.
Great man.
Aye alot of them looked down their nose at big mac, some of them snooty trainers who needed a good boot in the head.
Barney Curley was a legend to those around him and those that knew him well . To the everyday punter he is the despicable nature of corruption in horse racing . The side you take depends on whether you were in his circle or not
The side you take is where your moral compass is. Horse racing is a terribly corrupt business. Would anyone watch it only for betting? And it's a fact that 99% of gamblers lose so it's a mugs game.
@@dublinsfaircity Great story
In horse racing there is no moral compass and the only reason people watch it is for betting. Take that aspect away and it dies immediately. There is only money, vanity and selfishness. The same applies to any endeavour and any sport, whether it is amateur or professional.
Barney could say the same to 99% of the racing media on tv. They know nothing about racing and shouldn't have a job.
U think their bad over there u should check out TVG crews in America
All media on TV, it's a FARCE
@@VCanisMajorisY Very true. And some are supposed to be trained "journalists" but are simply "commentators". Anyone could do the job. Look at Sky Racing. What an unprofessional group of wankers they employ. And look at Harness Racing with "commentators" like over excited Chris Barsby. Arguably the worst caller ever. At least David Fowler had enough brains to go across to gallops full time. As for media on TV in general...yep a farce. Look at breakfast TV on all networks to see the lack of talent. Even the ABC has gone downhill. I thought when Virginia Trioli left to annoy the morning radio audience in Melbourne, her replacement Lisa Millar would be a breath of fresh air. To be fair, she was at first, but is now just another ABC patronising "presenter". Not as bad as know it all Trioli, but Jesus, has she gone backwards.
Matt chapman another bengal lancer...
Absolutely correct itv racing is a i
Complete joke presenters have no idea about public relations crap
Thank you Barney for the best multiple I’ve ever/will ever land. Sleep well ❤️ a slightly more restless sleep to you though John
I was watching this in a bookies in the Gorbals with the old Liverpool and celtic player Frank Mgarvey.

Barney is a class act. He's a breath of fresh air - fearless, honest and independent. Love it.
Spot on...
Honest??/Contradicts himself about 4 times !
Honest? if you think Curley was honest you know nothing about racing 😁
He was as bent as a nine bob note
Aye honest as the days long is dick Turpin.shit I mean barney curley
A colourful character which are sadly missing in racing today. RIP Barney Curly
Brilliant.
R.i.peace big man spoke the truth just people didnt want it being said legend !!
What was the truth?
Never tire of this 😅
Barney was so crooked he had to screw his trousers on every morning, but he was an extremely generous man who gave away his mansion in Ireland to a homeless charity and never broadcast his many acts of kindness because he didn't do it for the kudos, he had a social conscience that is anathema to the betting industry for which he was a major scourge for decades. Much missed by so many people grateful for his generosity; he had a big heart and we will never see his like again. Rest in peace Mr curley.
Well said sir
So being good for charities excuses being a crook?!?!
@@cityzens634 he took book makers money i would not call him a crook
He raffled his mansion and made 1.8 million from it, the raffle sold 9,000 tickets at 200 pound each that same mansion is still 1.3 miles from my home and I remember the hype from media outlets around the world being up there when it was news it was being raffled, he made a profit over 1 million in the process
A gypo with a conscience?? Wow that’s rarer than rocking horse shit!
I Love this rant 🤣
If Barney was a football manager, can you imagine what he'd be like with referees..??
I reckon roy keane would be his captain 😀
Just think , one swear word, and this would have ended up in the bin! Well done all three of yous!
Nothing to swear about here?
How apt this came up in my feed today. I'd say Barney gave John many a leg up and does not like being disrespected. Both gone now sadly RIP
RIP Barney - this is my go to humour video !
A great candid interview there! Laddo feels like an Irish gangster..
RIP Barnery, "the shows over boys"
A at the races classic!!
RIP Big Mac!!!
vast majority of trainers 'bend the rules'.john always spoke what he believed and was hardly ever wrong.his knowledge of the industry was second to none.he was taken off the tv by todays jump on band wagon 'pc' brigade.the same pc brigade who treat diving, cheating footballers as heroes.it's a very sad state of affairs.RIP big man.
and they support Williamhill.com who ban 100% of winners and restrict them to peanuts online.
What a true load of garbage you talk, you clearly did not know the man and are talking out of your rear end 🥵
As if the Stewards are going to do anything, they're about as much use as chocolate fireguards
You can't say the man wasn't colourful.Life is never boring with characters like this around.I live in New York and known people who resembled Barney and have passed away. Its sad that they've passed away but we'll ALL pass away some day .No,the REAL sad part about all this is that there is nobody out there to replace them .Life won't be worth living anymore .
A.right.rouge.he.was.barney.curley.
Mr curley tells them how it is .
RIP Barney , classic !!
big macs face when he seen barney bouncing up ,
He apparentley helped him out a thousand times from all his failures....
Remember watching this live, big Mac was the face of horse racing along with Frankie dettori and Henry Cecil and will always be a legend
I never understand why someone who essentially cons not only the bookies but other punters who bet on a race is seen as a legend? A crook is a crook however you want to dress it up.
Mark Smith: That's one I can't also understand.
Great Big Mac clip. Sad day
get him on the itv morning show!
Right, the shows over boys. Thank you very much 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Goooooood man wis there was more ppl like him
Barney only lumps on at big prices and they usually win the man is genius .One of the few to get the better of the cowardly bookies👍👍👍👍
two great characters sadly no longer with us
legend mr curley.love it when he s telling harvey what a tosser he is.how did harvey get the job on tv?
Luke is actually good on tv.in fairness he knows he wasnt a great jockey dosnt take himself to seriously.
Top bloke Barney. Told the truth! RIP mate
"odds on to 11-4 on the exchanges" There is your clue "exchanges"
One of the diamonds of racing always had something to say whether bad or good r.i.p
This isn’t the full edit. Or has been edited. Very strange. There’s two versions of this

Not one comment explaining exactly what the discussion was about. Without this, nothing makes sense.
Rest in peace ICON.
Think u should have put the icon in without the i 😂😂😂😂
I was gonna say that was great craic but looks like Luke (Under Achiever) Harvey & John (Take Out Merchant) McCririck cracked under the strain 🤣
Racing needs more people like him in it. There’s no personality that jump out at ya. I’ve heard story bout Barney from me da and I say fair fooking play to get one up on them fookers. Legend
wow barney sure likes to debate calmly. what a load of insults. Me thinks the man doth protest too much ??!!
He must have really done something for mcrirrick cos he shut his mouth the second he said he saved his bacon
Curley and McCrririck were both big gamblers ( Curley is actually famous for winning some very big bets ). The story is that Mac owed a lot of money to the *wrong* people ( in Ireland ) and Curley sorted the debt for him. As you say, Mac looks very awkward when Curley mentions it.
You were an underachiever in life! 🤣
Can somebody please explain to me what this was about and what was the outcome??? Please…..
Robert there in the background lol. What was it about?
barney was one of the pall bearers at big macs funeral.........
just watched his program on bbc iplayer, its a good watch
Read barney's book, fair play he had the inside knowledge and wasn't shy of lumping on, it takes balls to bet heavily on moderate horses, the bookies hated his horses because they couldn't get a handle on them, no form, but a very astute brilliant brain behind them
What's his book called?
It’s called giving a little back
@@garyhodgson6569 The no1 Racing book ever.Very entertaining and well worth a read even if you don't follow racing.

No doubt the two of them will be up there in their Heavenly stables, beers in hand, watching today's Derby at Epsom!! Two legends or is it leg ends??😇😇!!
Rip John a racing legend love to u
COME RACING !!
Barneys right, the other two are working for the bookmakers..
Go on Barney give it straight, Sorely missed
calling people out when your a powerhouse in racing against what? As he said an under achieving ex jockey and a failed bookmaker and chancer of a man? is bullying in my bookmakers satchel.....
You know you see something a few times and then you think ok its run its course. This is/was timeless, I still chuckle everytime, if I remember right, Barneys wife or A relative said he was over the top or similar, and should apologise..a few days later he did in a fashion. Miss the big characters in racing, I know M Chapman drives seem people mad.... however he is a character and would much prefer him than some in the game that have no thought or comment, we have seen another side to jockeys we may never have seen, S Levey & O Murphy to name two. RIP to some great characters we have lost, BARNEY, BIG MAC and up Monaghan OLIVER BRADY.
Genius and gifted the late, Barney Curley.
Barney Curley bent as a butchers hook around his betting and pulling of horses fact 😁
Tony Williams
Agreed. How else do you expect to win? Curley is right The vast majority of people who gamble on horses more often than not are wagering on non triers. Fact.
@@1967briano one of the big issues with having the exchanges now. Prize money at a low level is dire and easier at times to get a fancied horse beaten than it is to actually win the race. Don't agree with not trying at all but can understand why some do it
Colin D Yes. I agree. Low level races can have prize money of £1900-2200 for the winner. Take costs out of it and it’s not worthwhile.
so be it but the guy has helped a lot of less fortunate people. thank you very much boys the shows over
@@1967briano Yes I think if you win two of the aforementioned races it probably does not even pay the horses training fees for the year.
The show is really over now Barney, RIP.
