I used to go to the betting office with my Uncle has a child so he could bet on the horse races, I would mostly pick the numbers. We never won any major jackpots, but we had a blast. I miss those days in London. Afterwars it was off to the local Pub( kids used to be allowed in Pubs). I would have my juice and crisps, Uncle Brown would have his pint of Skol lager. Uncle Brown passed away from cancer, and almost every day i cry because i miss him.

Barney is a clever Irishman and knows a lot about racing and the workings of racing. What he predicted has come true. The big bookmakers have bled the game dry, and so have Betfair. Barney should be made a member of the jockey club and given freedom of speech to speak on their behalf.

Well done Barney, a true legend of the game & without doubt, the greatest gambler of all time in horse racing. I've followed racing for four nearly four decades & whenever Curley had one being backed, you could normally count the money, he was as deadly. I thought he was out of order with Luke, he got a bit personal, but I'm sure they sorted it out. I have just bought his book " The Sure Thing: The Greatest Coup in Racing History & it's a must for those who love horse racing & the plotting of a great gamble.

The fact is the bookmakers that infest the high-streets now in ever increasing numbers and tempt punters into playing silly virtual racing and casino games
whilst paying as little back to horse racing as possible by levy avoidance are the biggest cheats around as they made there millions off the backs of horses, trainers and jockeys for many decades. My advice is don't play the games and learn to take there prices at racing as if they want to play a game fairly they have to accept that sometimes they will lose and on that note well done Barney you are a genius and a fair man.

Well said, Juv. I Agree with all four of your observations . . . 1. McCrirrick was a one trick pony (pardon the pun), supposedly the Punters' Pal, but in reality, an Ex-Harrovian pillock/bully-boy who should have been educated with a sharp left-hook a decade ago. 2. Luke Harvey . . . don't get me started! I remember him scrubbing around the likes of Bangor and Hereford . . . always on a rank-outsider. He wasn't even a second but a third-rate useless jockey. Somehow, incredibly, he's re-invented himself as Lambourn's No. 1 name-dropper and now refers to co-presenters + modern iconic jockeys as "Fitzy" and "Champ" . . . as if they're his best mates. He even has the temerity to join in their on-air recollections of the past and speak as if all three had shared the limelight! 3. Very little to add about Mr. Curley. He's been far more than a legendary punter and I would claim that he is also a top--trainer of a racehorse. (Check out his biography "Giving a Little Back" and "The Sure Thing" by Nick Townsend). And last but not least, No. 4. - The eloquent literary style of Janet Chisholm, without whom this conversation just wouldn't be the same.

I can train a 90 rated horse to lose every single race in runs in, so its mark finally falls to 46 and have 44lbs in hand of its rivals and win. Its not very special, unless you think fooling punters into thinking its seen better days is special. I call it cheating. There's a rule in British racing that states that all horses should be ridden to finish in the best possible position - these horses obviously weren't. If you want to reply to me directly, try to aim it at something I wrote.

Barney talking about saving McCrirricks bacon one time is a pure example of a trainer letting a bookie know when a horse will or won't win. It's as simple as that. Corruption/race fixing whatever you wanna call it. I'd listen to a Barney tip before a McCrirrick tip anyway, but thats just me.

Horses are difficult animals to work out if they dont fancy running they wont, or will make sure they lose

He's got money yet wants more money by running his horses knowing quite well they won't win as he tells them to run them down the field, whether they are 50/1 or 5/2, especially if it has supposedly got a chance, this is robbing the punter. All punters want is to bet on a race that is fair with no trainers/jockeys pulling horses, they don't care if they back a loser as long as the race was straight.

listen ok, firstly his horses are his own and he trains them himself. when he runs his horses the bookies want to get information off him either directly or through indirect sources. he doesn't give them information so in effect they are the ones taking the punt on his horse they put up 50/1 or 5/2 they are only guessing. when he won his big accumulator in 2010 the bookies couldn't stop it. you see horses being pulled out of races that's the reason why.

He tells you what he fancies alright but he's never put his neck on the line and said one of his horse will win and he has had enough winners by 30 lengths or more so you think he could tell you a bit more than "he'll run well". @Fucktusa You cannot ever say a horse will win for sure the nature of jump racing dictates that.Nicholls gives a truer verdict of how his horses will run than any other trainer, the Pipe/Henderson/Hobbs/O'Neil stables keep quiet and are punters worst enemies as the amount of gambles that fail on their horses show.If you think there is a trainer who says more than Nicholls tell us and yes he trains for the rich and gets top horses all of which means he has no need please us or the media
