  • Flamboyant racing pundit John McCririck has said he is "devastated" and "inconsolable" at having lost his age discrimination case against Channel 4.
Mr McCririck claimed he was dismissed by "anonymous suits and skirts" at the broadcaster because of his age, as part of a drive to hire younger faces.

It still makes me sad, to see how the late legend John McCririck was treated. The ratings and quality of the channel 4 racing never recovered.

Quite ironic that a guy that went through his life with questionable attitudes towards women then brought this to court over age discrimination 😂

I think that channel 4 is horrible! At least he was honest and not a veneer of a human being.

I think Big Mac is the main face of channel 4 racing. Dont think the show will be the same. Im glad itv have the racing from 2017 so they can make some changes. Bring Back Big Mac and John Francombe.

Johns right. He’s more than capable of doing the job he so clearly loved and age wasn’t stopping him from doing that. Good on him for standing up for himself and at least his views have been shared which in effect makes him a winner as many will agree with him.

I feel so sorry for John, he's a great character and I miss him on channel 4 racing... we need distinctive characters in life. I also miss Lesley Graham in that show.

He is certainly a dying breed. Nowadays, they prefer squeaky clean, politically correct, easy to control and uninteresting presenters that are not allowed to express themselves. Whereas, Big Mc brought entertainment, banter and personality to his job. Channel 4's loss. He's not doing too bad. He has plenty of radio and newspaper work, and appearing on numerous celebrity TV shows.

It ended New years day and i have not watched it since. 'It' was C4 racing with jonny franks, Big mac, fat Al and jimbo. class times great team. Now its just trainers siblings and jokes about wine.
We lost something unique and it sends the message that having character is a bad thing.

One or two uncalled for jibes by JM in Saturdays Sun towards some of the presenters of the current C4 team, who I think deliver a top notch racing programme, headed by the ultra professional Nick Luck. Clare Balding is good there is no denying, but Nick is equally as capable. Having said all that I won't deny what JM has done for racing in this country and wish him well.

McCormick thought he was untouchable . He was mostly to blame for his own downfall : he became a pantomime act and ended up becoming a gross parody . He was good entertainment in the early days but his act , like that thing on his head , became old hat .
