Dude wrote half a song in the 13 years he was with the band while Mike Pinder always wrote for every album he did. Being on album covers and promotional materials doesn't count you as a member of the band. Contracts do. He was offered $400,000 but wanted more and only ended up with $77,000
As a Moodie fan, I was thrilled when the band got back together and Octave was released in '78, and the supporting tour was announced. It was a shock that Mike Pinder didn't want to tour, and announced he was leaving the band. In comes Moraz. So yes, we all thought by appearances (pictures) he was a fifth member of the band, but hearing the separate contracts for every subsequent album and tour, it's obvious he wasn't. Those contracts he signed explain his status, not a picture on an album or in a tour program. I can point to other bands that had pictures published, yet an individual portrayed was not contractually a member, let alone a full member. This sounds more like someone who never managed his money concocting a scheme to obtain more. My god, if every supporting musician could take a band to court for every note they play on an album or in concert over and above what they signed a contract for, the whole system would collapse. No wonder Yes didn't want Moraz back. Good riddance. By Keys to the Kingdom, it was over for the Moody Blues. That album received barely any airplay. After that, like so many 60's and 70's bands, it was tours (nostalgia) to keep the money flowing.
You’re kidding, right? Here in 2024 Justin and John are out there touring with their separate respective bands / mates. Justin’s carried on writing and performing his own music and it’s pretty fabulous that he’s still creative at 77years of age. I presume John ( 80 yrs old) has also written more music since the Moody’s split, but I not sure of that.m
@@joanthomas6337 no, I'm not kidding. Sure they are still touring. Sure the keep writing. As far as touring, so is Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones,The Who, need I go on? Have any of them released anything earth shattering in at least a decade, if not two? The last new thing the Moody Blues released that captured any real attention was the Red Rocks concert.
From 24:00. He wasn't quite right here. MIDI was first demoed by Sequential Dave Smith and also Roland in January 1983 at the NAMM show. The first MIDI synths were the Prophet-600 and the Jupiter-6. However, there were probably not many other MIDI things like sequencing gear at that time but there would have been soon afterwards, probably by 1984 as Patrick says.
Francis Monkman developed a kind of early MIDI in 1979 when he synched a harpsichord to a Prophet 5 synth by installing a circuit board with contacts underneath the harpsichord's keys and linking via a ribbon cable to the synth.
Moraz is a beast of a musician. Just listen to Relayer with Yes.
I wonder why he left Yes? He only worked with them for two years. He was with the Moody Blues for thirteen years.
I listened to a bit of Patrick’s music on his own and it’s different. I don’t care for it. I like rock music 🎵.
Fascinating. I just came here from Moraz playing with Yes in 1975.
This gives some good insights into the music biz, particularly Patrick Moraz who uses very precise language.
This type of thing wouldn't be an issue today.....things are more clearly defined

Yes, and Justin Hayward writes all of his songs.
$100,000 in 1978/79 sounds pretty good to me. What would that be now? One Million?

Saw a recent interview.
Patrick seemed a reformed character 😁

Wikipedia thing says that Moraz got $77,000 in the lawsuit but had been ffered $400k out of court. Take the money and run!
I think Patrick Moraz just wanted the fame he expected to get with the Moody Blues. I wondered what in the world he was doing there! 🤔
hes on the cover of other side of life hes in publicity shots too i would count him as a member🤷🏼♂️
This recording is not complete it goes from John Lodge to Patrick Moraz and back to repeating John Lodges testimony.
It also repeated much of Patrick's testimony but it's interesting all the same.
Brian May is lookin' rough lately..
That’s just wrong but it made me laugh
Just pay the man and get on with it.
They did pay him. He was a Hired Gun, nothing more.
Poor Pat does not look well.
